Hey guys - hope you don't mind me posting on this thread. I'm travelling to Scottsdale for a golf trip Oct 30 - Nov 3 and looking to at least 2 rounds in, maybe 3.

Two of the courses I was looking at playing, Longbow and Verde River, are currently overseeding and reopening right before we arrive.

I'm just wondering what kind of conditions we can expect for courses recently re-opened after overseeding? Anything I need to know other than shaggy fairways and slower greens? Are the greens punched/aerated or just long?

Thanks in advance.

The whole point of this thread is to help you avoid the situation you describe. Sure, you can play Longbow and Verde River, both good mid-to-high tier courses right after overseed, but why not look at Legend Trail, Camelback Ambiente, or Eagle Mountain, similar in quality and price to Longbow and Verde River, which will be a good 2-3 weeks or more after overseed? The fairways will be firmer, the greens will be close to normal in speed, and the courses may be off cart path only which will speed the rounds up whether you ride or walk.

I definitely want to play some of those courses, but at the same time I'm trying to keep cost down, which is why Longbow and Verde River were on my short list. With many less cheap courses to choose from that are >3-4 weeks removed from overseeding, it's proving challenging to find some good deals.

The 3 I mentioned should be similar in price and quality to Longbow and Verde River. There are others as well. Whirlwind Devil's Claw and Talking Stick South. Quintero is reportedly in great shape (it usually is, overseed or not) if you can make the drive, and usually in a mid-tier price bracket (because of the drive).

Just a heads up longbow is nothing special. Not in my top 30 in az. I played it once and am not in a huge rush to go back. Hopefully your not paying more than $70

Thanks - I've taken Longbow and Verde off the list, don't want to deal with poor conditions even if the course is nice. I love Verde, played it years back, just crappy timing this time around.

We're looking to play 2 rounds minimum, 1 cheap one and 1 nicer. Possibly add a 3rd if things go well the first two days.

I'm going to try and get out on Legend Trail with my Dad as it will be >1 month removed from overseed, and I've read several recommendations on here so thanks for that.

I'm looking for another cheap (less than $50), easy, warm-up round with the whole family to start off the trip. My sister only golfs once a year, both Dad and Mom are high cappers, and I haven't been playing much due to poor weather back home. I'm alright if the course isn't super memorable, but good conditions would be preferable.

Any thoughts if Painted Mountain might fit the bill? I haven't seen many recommendations for it but they re-opened Sept 29th from overseed so conditions might be better than some others.

We're staying in Scottsdale. Some other courses I had on the list based on price and early overseed schedule; Dove Valley Ranch, McCormick, Bear Creek, Scottsdale Silverado

Any others suggestions that might fit that category? Thanks guys

Painted Mtn is not a bad warmup course....nothing fantastic or overly bad, so might fit into your plans. Same with Silverado. Would lean towards Painted personally.

Dove Valley is not a great course and somewhat gimmicky, but it is rounding into shape at the moment. Pass on those other on your list.

TPC Champions would be a decent option too.

Eagle Mountain. Pretty easy and very memorable, might be more expensive than you want, but it's worth it for visitors.

Price isn't too bad, maybe could try there for a 3rd round. But we'd only be playing it 18-20 days after re-opening from overseed. I haven't been able to find any recent course condition reports but I'm thinking that may be a bit short.

Thanks to everyone for their feedback!

I prefer LS over Longbow but neither would be in my top 20 in AZ.
