Waste management open

Recommended Posts

Hey, looking for tips for the Waste Management Open. Plan to go on Saturday the 3rd with some friends to the 16th hole and I have never been there before. I will be traveling from out of state so looking for suggestions on the following:

-where to stay

-best option for transportation (public vs Uber), I plan to be drinking

-where to go for a good super bowl party on Sunday

-any other tips or advice

You're quite the planner. My advice if you want to get onto 16 is get there early, like really early. There is no public transportation in North Scottsdale ( that's funny) so Uber/Lyft is pretty much your only option. Saturday is a total ess show, plan accordingly and have fun!

Yes there are people line up well before the gates open and there is a mad dash to 16 in the morning usually for the prime TV air time spots near the tee box and down the north side(left) general admission (dudes in Vikings gear every year). As TJY stated even if they split tees and do a 1/10 start you will be sitting there for at least 2 hours with nothing to do but drink. However If you sit high enough up on the back green grandstand you should at least be able to see 10 green. 16 is way over rated it used to be much more fun when there was no grandstands around the green and everyone just sat on the grass hill. Now it is a huge PITA to get in/out of, get concessions or use the porta john.

Underrated spots 4th green grass hill with concessions and restrooms nearby. good par 3. The long par 3 12th has a really nice set up as well.

Very good advice. I am a little older and thought 16th is a little overrated versus the wait. PITA really. 17 and 18 were fun to see I thought.

My brother in law is in charge of concessions for the Tbirds this year. 12 will be expanded again, I cant remember what the theme will be this year craft beer maybe? 12 really is becoming a great spot to watch both 12 green and 15 fairway. They are really trying to get people out away from 16. 17 is starting to be enclosed more and more as well.

If your not 21-25 Or still in the college drinking phase, don't go to the 16th unless you get tickets to a suite/box.

Agreed....It's a cluster and a headache....but if you have the passes it's awesome. I actually kind of prefer the greens keeper pass box along 18 as it's more open and not quite as nuts.

Got my members tent tickets for Thursday. I think we're going to avoid the 16th. Is Lot W at Westworld a good place to park? We got stuck in bad traffic heading east the 101 last year and are trying to avoid that again. Lot 8 is $6 on StubHub but it doesn't look to be any better than the free parking

Westworld lot gives you a lot of options if you know your way around. Happens to practically be my backyard, I'll walk over to the shuttles and jump on from there. If traffic sucks you can go E/SE Thompson Peak to Raintree to the 101. If you are going N/NW you can go 94th to Legacy to Pima to catch the 101 there and avoid the frontage road mess. IMO if you are coming from the south or southeast valley it is the best place to park as long as you do not try to exit down Bell Rd to the 101

I played there this past Monday and they seemed to have a lot more stands up on the left side of 18 fairway than I remembered from last year. Maybe I just didn't notice them but I was thinking to myself, where are they going to put all the lawn chairs and umbrellas at?

If you don't mind a little walking, I always park in the Lowe's lot off of Frank Lloyd Wright and just walk to the entrance. You don't need to pay and you have some side streets to escape down and avoid the cluster on FLW.

Whatever the valet parking passes on Stubhub cost is worth it. I hosted a bunch of client people last year at our suite and had Valet passes. I'll be hard pressed to go back to normal now :)

That said, didn't volunteer to host this year as I don't have time.

I second the valet pass.

$65 to valet

Thats exactly what we'll do. Hop off the 101 at Cactus or Shea and take 94th up. Assuming we can turn west on Bell and South on 98th like we do for Barrett Jackson. Thanks!

That will be a back up plan. I imagine FLW is a mess but Ill check waze traffic before getting up there

No need to loop down 98th off Bell if you are coming up Thompson Peak, just turn left onto Mcdowell Mountain Ranch RD where the Shell station is, will take you straight into Westworld back entrance. Also traffic on Raintree should be light enough no need to exit Shea or Cactus.

That's also why you should always walk 1 to 2 steps ahead of the significant other at the WMPO....your eyes can scan while your head stays forward and no worries about the random looks back that catch your eyes wandering lol

Thoughts on uber/lyft in terms of convenience & price vs just driving to the course & parking by west World? I’m going wed & sun (will stay til the end). I don’t drink but I Thought uber might just be easier but not sure if they will do surge pricing b/c of high demand when leaving the course.

I would be surprised if they didn't do some sort of surge pricing but even if they don't I would just drive. I think we've only had a long wait to get out of there one year, every other year has been a breeze. Not sure how they handle Ubers but I would be surprised if the access is easy. There's going to be a lot of people who need them coming out of there.
