Many consider Byron Nelson's 1945 season the greatest single season of all-time. Byron won 18 PGA Tour events including 11 in a row in 1945. Included in those victories was the PGA Championship. My question to the historians on GolfWRX, list the top-5 single seasons on the PGA Tour. All opinions matter, so feel free to chime in.

You get the picture. When Tiger was out there in his prime, certain weeks you KNEW that the rest of the field didn't stand a prayer. I'm not a historian but I highly doubt that 1945 was indicative of the true potential of the golf field at that time. The golf field at that time was also not indicative of the golf talent either. Too many that could have been great never picked up a club as it wasn't a game for everyone back then.

 

Someone had to kick Adolfs rear end and golfers, baseball players, and all others were busy doing that. I have some old baseball cards where there's a gap from 1940-1945 on some of the best players back then. There's a reason for that. Joe Baseball Player became GI Joe. Same for golf.

 

I'm not trying to take anything away from Nelson either. It was a different world then and I'm glad it was. Otherwise we'd all be speaking another language. I hate hearing nein nein nein anytime I'm facing a hard hole. Snowmen are bad enough.

My not strongly held opinion. Order can be flipped around without causing argument on my part. Off the top of my head and others could probably change my mind with well researched opinions.

Also back then many of the top players where Ams who didn't play a full touring schedule. They would play the majors and a few local events, because there was no money in golf.
