Off season posting

One guy in our group has come up with an idea and I wanted to see what others thought of it.

 

Our posting season ended yesterday. But the course is still in good, playable condition. And 75* degrees today. So still legitimate golf weather for us. We’d like to still be able to count our scores played under these conditions.

 

Is it unethical or illegal rules wise to find a course that is still in season and that has very close numbers (rating and slope)to ours and post as away rounds?

It’s against the rules to post a score that you didn’t make. The season is over at your course - no posting, regardless of your judgement about how the course is playing.

I am not sure you would be able to post anyway. I may be wrong, but I think if you tried it wouldn't go through.

I wouldn't post since it's clearly outside of posting season. Also if you anyone played in an early season tournament it seems their index would be tainted by those non-eligible scores and easily caught.

I think if it’s an away score from a course that is still in season it goes through. Some of my normal group that is in Mesquite are currently posting their scores currently.

I wouldn't post since it's clearly outside of posting season. Also if you anyone played in an early season tournament it seems their index would be tainted by those non-eligible scores and easily caught.

 

Actually scores right now would lower the caps, so no ones bagging ��.

Is it referenced specifically by the USGA? Not questioning if it is in fact illegal, I would just like to be able to show him.

 

 

And thanks for the replies everyone, I appreciate them. We’re not trying to pull off anything underhanded, he was just trying to come up with a way to stay more current with our games/handicaps while our weather and course are still in this condition.

Two years ago, I posted a score after the end of the season because the course was still in very good shape, other than dry and fast fairways that allowed for quite a bit of run out. The score was flagged as being out of season, but for some reason it was accepted and counted towards my handicap anyway as it was one of the lower ten scores. Now I just count them as practice rounds.

That does seem to be the consensus. Like I said, intentions were/are good, but I'm perfectly fine with not posting today's round!

Unacceptable Scores

 

Scores made under the following conditions are not acceptable for handicap purposes and must not be entered in the player's scoring record:

 

(i) When fewer than seven holes are played;

 

(ii) When made on a golf course in an area in which an inactive season established by the authorized golf association is in effect;

 

(iii) When, as a condition of the competition, the maximum number of clubs allowed is less than 14, or types of clubs are limited as, for example, in a competition that allows only iron clubs;

 

(iv) When scores are made on a course with no USGA Course Rating or Slope Rating;

 

(v) When a player uses non-conforming clubs, non-conforming balls, or non-conforming tees; or when a player incurs a second breach of Rule 14-3. (NEW)

 

(vi) When a player plays alone; (NEW)

 

(vii) When a player ignores one or more Rules of Golf and fails to post an adjusted hole score as required under Section 4-1 and 4-2, or fails to record the appropriate penalty for a breach of rule. For example, if a player anchored the club while making a stroke during a round and did not record a penalty for doing so (See Rule 14-1b), the score would not have been played under the Rules of Golf and therefore would not be acceptable for handicap purposes. Vanity cap Larry here... One of my best rounds of the season last year was a day prior to being able to post. The weather was great. First day of posting season you couldn't golf without studded tires and a shovel. Even with my apparent vanity cap I wasn't tempted to try to post it.

 

I don't play in anything where sandbagging would help. I do however attempt to achieve the highest vanity cap that the rules will allow.
