I don’t know why but your WITB is the only one I regularly glance at in your sig. here.  For some reason I just find your set interesting. 😉

One range session in

x-forged cb may be the best feeling irons I’ve ever hit.  Love the feel of the MMT as well, stable but not dead or harsh like some other graphite offerings

callaway nailed the specs

mmt 95s plus 1”

1 degree up

gray iomic 2.3, 3 wraps, upside down

progressive swingweights from d6 to d9

better report after 18 tomorrow

  • 2 weeks later...

Dumped the X-Forged CB for these sassy blades.  Not sure if this is a record or not for me time wise

The store cut me a deal I couldn’t turn down ... and I get 2 extra irons out of the deal, the 4 and 5

After a range session I am honeymoon level in love.  Wicked thru the turf, amazing feel.

Twin points out this morning that from going to 919T to Zx7 I am following Bruce Cupcake

Haha, those Callaways were so two weeks ago!

Seriously considering a combo set of 5s and 7s, but the 7s have my attention.  Thoughts on 7s vs. some other models you've played (maybe just the last 3-4 years so the list is manageable!)?  I've tried APs and '16 Apex Pros (sadly with wrong shaft) and can't knock the Legacy Blacks out of my bag.  Sometimes club to club comparisons are helpful - golfer to golfer . . . . I'm not finding the middle as often as you do.

Thanks.

What a poser! 😂 Nice set-up there Cardy, shield-tips, old Vokeys (especially  SM2 wedges), and v sole  irons just seem to go together- all kinds of good choices there👍🏻💪

The 7 are very similar look and feel wise to the 919t ... ymmv

they do not feel small at all to me

much prefer this style and feel of head vs hollow stuff like the t-mb and gen 2 p790’s I’ve unloaded quickly in the past

the shape in the heel, leading edge and toe is what I like to see.  eg oversized thicker Blueprints or my beloved s55’s

much better thru turf than the x forged cb’s for me

give me a week to get 2 rounds and 2 more range sessions in and I will compare them to 6 other sets for you in greater detail

general note ... I love tungsten in the toe of irons

the Nippon 120s I love ... which surprised me .. until I read butt softer and tip stiffer

I will be interested in your thoughts on the 6i and 5i and if/where you start to see peak height and yardage gaps collapse.  I have a set of ZX7 7i-PW at the post office now ready for pick-up.  Went ZX5 in the 6i to spread lofts and get from 27 deg to 46 degs with one less club - but, already wondering whether I should have stayed with ZX7 at 6i and perhaps added the 5i.

Odds are 95% the 4 and 5’s won’t make the bag.  I love my gen 1 apex hybrids.  5h is my 200-205 club all day long in Canada during the season.  Plus, they are easy peasy from the rough

From two range session I know the 6 is simple to hit ... and the 4 and 5 were not overly taxing either !

Off to play in 90 mins near @Dan Drake ... will report in afterwards

So todays round was fun.  35 when we teed off and 53 F when done.  Cool and brisk NE wind.  4 layers early.

76 and only missed one green (if you include fringes) with a Srixon iron .. slightly fat off a very sandy fwy lie

I will say they are very straight and forgiving.  Amazing thru turf, even garbage dormant packed down Bermuda  ... loads of heavy rains here earlier in the week

I did move some balls around in the fairway to make sure I could hit all the irons (6-PW).  Almost all gap and sand and lob shots I dragged backwards to 120 yards +.  Moved forward on two par 3’s so I could hit the 6 and 7’s and specifically used the 6 and 7 irons to lay up on par 5’s as well

THE FEEL IS INCREDIBLE.  My wife’s comment sums it up. “It doesn’t sound like you are even hitting a ball!”  And this is in cold weather.  Give me 80 degrees so I can compress that ball and it can only get better.

Very easy to work it left or right and also so hit knock downs.  I love low short irons so this is a win. Clean even divots.

if the heel was higher (like MP37) they would be perfect for me visually. Sort of squaring them up .. but I know others hate that look

^^ great report - thanks.  Have two range sessions on mine with first round in two days.  I’ll either need to replace the ZX5 6i with ZX7 6i or strengthen the lofts of my hybrids a degree or two.  My initial view of the ZX7 is that is a slightly better looking and substantially better feeling version of the 714 AP2.

Still working out whether my longest fairway wood will be 16.5@16.5 or 18@17.25 but otherwise my bag is emerging eerily similar to yours...

37-35 for 72 today.  6,500, 141 slope.  missed a sliding 8 footer on 18 to break par

Srixy’s are the real deal.  Laser beams all day except for one par 3 where it was a terrifying flared Word not allowed 8i, a very near El Hoseloro sighting

i noted today the iron sole grind is very similar to the grind on my beloved 64.07 Vokey

I can't stand it - taking a little drive out of town Monday to have a few mid-winter swings inside with a zx7 demo just to actually see and fondle and they have my current shaft available to do some comparison with my current 7i - need a break anyway and we may hit a temp above freezing, now we've gotten above zero, on Monday with some sun - nice day for a drive.

Yep! Deed is done, having a nice sirloin melt after session to celebrate, then off to dermatologist for radioactive cream! Going to town, got to do everything, lol.

My wife will applaud I traded in two sets and got $570 in credit so no recriminations (she never cares what golf stuff I get anyway).

zx7 6-PW plus AW, Recoil 95F4 still good for me.

Anxious to hit them off turf. Last year it was April 16 for us.

Went around in 76 from the tips at a tight hilly track north of here called Blackstone.  12 GIR based on two tee balls getting ridiculous sideways hops into hazards.  2 birds

highlight ... two par 3 six iron shots with high draws from 189 and 193 that would make doves cry

Side note: i think these are the longest blades I’ve ever hit !

I’m debating my pw moving to 45* though, what I’m used to in 919t and keeps short irons in 4 degree gaps

Terrific feel even compared to my Legacy Blacks, love the looks of the heads at address, finally a recent iron that really feels like a good move!

Thanks for the reminder!  A nice lemon/honey margarita with extra tequila to celebrate! In such a hurry to drink it I forgot to salt the rim, lol.

Well the shop I frequent basically flipped my i3+ blades into a set I’ve wanted for a while.  Very solid condition for their age and over length.  I used to play the SW and LW

I figure these will be [art of my too cool for school retro PING bag with a Rapture OG driver (Oban 65.06) and a Rapture v2 4w with Fuji Kamo 660Tr, Tisi Tec 7w, Ping Darby with Ti Pixels putter and lastly a set of BeCu Zing 2 wedges

@Fujikura Golf

I finally caved this afternoon and grabbed a Ventus Red 6x.  45.75, d8.5, small +.

Range in 20 mins to test this out in my G400 max.  I EXPECT BIG THINGS !!!!!

I like my wood shafts to be one brand so when I get home it may be like this

660 TR in 3w

8.2 TS in 5w

952 TS in 7w

I may try to get a 757 or 869 in the mix or even my HK110 or TRTI ,,, or some other oldies but goodies in gamer clubs

I used to have a “problem” collecting rare Fuji Japan tour spec shafts

Now I am just the opposite I can not control a draw most of the time--- Usually when I try it it becomes a nasty snap darn near left lateral or a sweeper that runs forever in the wrong direction as in the double cross from Hades. I tried one Saturday in the scramble because none of my partners hit the fairway and as a team we were out of it anyhow. I over cooked it just a hair not that bad for a draw for me but still in bad position in tree trouble. But after all my partners hit dribbling tops trying to go under I opened up my little 5 wood and hit a cut over the tree on the green.

I loved the G MAX drivers until the Mavrik Max was introduced into my life. I'll probably get the 425 at some point just cause MtlJeff has to Mtljeff

But i've literally been making it rain like Pacman Jones at a strip club this offseason and driver is the only spot i haven't even considered upgrading
