Jeans on the golf course. Come on Now!!

Recommended Posts

I wear shorts unless it's under 65 degrees...what can I say, I've been living out in LA too long and my blood has gotten thin!

I have a couple pair of golf pants (adidas/puma) that I'll wear when the courses require slacks, or if I think the member cares.

Golf attire has gotten so comfortable I can't believe I used to wear Gap khaki's and cotton lacoste shirts...what was I thinking!

PS. At the local munis here in LA, I'll wear Adidas soccer pants...really comfortable...and I won't tuck in my shirt either!!!

Course doesn't want jeans, it will let you know. Otherwise wearing anything the course allows is perfectly acceptable.

Was just looking at rules for some pretty nice courses in the UK - some say no jeans, some say ok, some say jeans unless in a competition. Again, up to the course, not up to you OP.

I guess that's the problem with the written word, it's open sometimes to interpretation. To me the op was stating an opinion, his preference on attire. Perhaps a bit strongly. Others seem to have interpreted it as if he was attempting to issue a denim mandate.

I don’t how else you can interpret “to me it is tacky and I don’t think courses should allow it”. That sounds a lot like a mandate.

Deadsolid you are reaching now. This is a discussion board about golf right? Same can be said about people thoughts on White belts or shoes that look more like tennis shoes. You are correct at the end of the day you can wear whatever you like course permitting. Nothing against players who wear jeans just putting my opinion on it out there based on what I saw driving in to my local golf course. Issuing a mandate is a stretch but if you take it that way then there you go. Now between thick corduroys, I would probably wear jeans myself.

I don’t think it’s a reach at all. Shilgy said some people were interpreting it as a denim mandate. I think someone saying it shouldn’t be allowed sounds like one. If you owned a course it sounds like you wouldn’t allow jeans. That’s a mandate. But you are 100% correct in that not everyone will read it that way. But that is how I read it, and since it is a discussion board I’m just offering up how I interpreted it.

I’ll actually apologize somewhat, I know I can get a little opinionated on this subject and I may have taken it a bit personally. It’s just one thing I feel strongly about. And if the course allows it, I’ll defend it vigorously. It just seems so silly to me that this is even an issue. There are so many other things that (To me anyway) are so much more important on the course. But that too is just an opinion.. One that is no more valid than anyone else’s.

I’d tee it up with you any day, and I bet we’d have a great round

Your are definitely correct. I love the game and would tee it up anytime. When you are in the Northern California area let me know. I will book at a course where jeans are allowed. Haaaa haaaaaa

If it was his privately owned course it would be a mandate. On a message board it's an opinion. How can he mandate anything on here?

Perhaps which way we read it is influenced by which side of the discussion we are on??

Being clever with the wordplay. Of course it's an opinion. Anything subjective here is.

We formulate our responses based on how we interpret the posts. That's all we can do since we can't see expression or detect tone. No one is saying he is going to LITERALLY mandate anything.

What I actually find interesting on my Post when I reference seeing people wearing Jeans, it wasnt the younger generation even. These were all gentlemen in their probably 60's who were wearing jeans. I almost thought they grew up watching Nicklaus, Palmer, The black Knight, dressed in golf attire when they were playing. Like I said guys, Im not looking for everyone to rush to their local golf shop and look like Rickie fowler or start investing in Loudmouth golf but if jeans is all you can come up with, to each their own.

and if you're opening post were flavored as this post is you probably wouldn't have receive so much fire from the posters. I did find your opening post a little bit insulting and demanding.

It has to be when stating an opinion or else you dont create a discussion topic. Im open to getting other's opinions. Thats what makes this forum so great.

And it definitely created a discussion! You can tell it's cold across most of the country. I don't think too many are out playing. We're all here, and we're all cranky!

I did just pick up a brand new Cleveland wedge at Golf Galaxy about a half hour ago on my way home. I don't think it will see a whole lot of action until spring time.

EDIT: don't tell the OP but the first time I use it I might have jeans on.

Disagree. OP's thread starter and subsequent comments, even what little backpedaling he has done, are pretty much his personal rules for how the rest of us should dress and what kind of people we are if we don't follow his rules.

Good Lord, it's more troll the ancient Yuletide threads - :read:

We wear jeans quite often, when not wearing cargo shorts with my shirt untucked (which is all summer). Sure, I have some golf pants I like to wear and wear them when I'm feeling like looking "smart" or because I'm at a course or with people that might feel better if I did, but jeans is the order of the day for most folks in the early Spring and fall around here at every course in the area. Was just looking at rules for some pretty nice courses in the UK - some say no jeans, some say ok, some say jeans unless in a competition. Again, up to the course, not up to you OP.

Two things, if you don't wear underwear never put them on right out of the dryer and I've never had a zipper related injury/incident while wearing them!

I think the o p is from California and doesn't understand what Michigan weather is like. Actually, I feel jeans are appropriate in certain spring and fall weather when the posting season has either not begun or has finished. 40 degrees out and the last thing I concern myself with at a municipal golf course is fashion. It's just too cold to think about it too much.

I'm going to go the Iowa and play with Hawkeye! Do you suppose DavePelz4 will join us Hawkeye, even in jeans?!

Oh yes, but he will be wearing shorts, even if it's 40 degrees! Mrs. Pelz digs his legs!

Can I take that fourth spot? I'll go to Ross and buy some jeans just for it!

BTW I keep my clubs, a golf shirt, golf shorts or golf slacks in my car at all times during the season. You never know when or where you might end up teeing it up on any given day.

That's why I switched away from t-shirts to polo shirts in normal attire. It means I'm usually wearing acceptable golf gear anyway. Not only do I have no interest in fashion I actually have no interest in clothing beyond function. By wearing well tailored cargo pants and polo shirts I'm always adequately dressed for just about any occasion. Although I might often have a hole in my sock. I can't be bothered darning them and until a toe is actually poking out I don't care :)
