Jeans on the golf course. Come on Now!!

What are you on about?

So now jeans wearers are pulling carts onto greens? BTW - some places actually allow that... the carts across greens thing...

...but you may be incapable of understanding that, due to your fervent desire to have that situation turn out the way you want it.

Posted in the wrong thread. Must have your jeans on this morning.

Some people are just old and stuck in their ways. They don't need to know how anything works or experiment because that's the way it's always been and always should be.

I vote for cutoff jean shorts and sleeveless tee shirts

I've played with that guy. He also had double-knee braces. Super nice guy. We whipped around at a good clip too.

Was at an excellent course in Norcal's Central Valley (that has subsequently closed down).

He was a dead ringer for Mike Moffit from Seinfeld:

Were both his thumbs bandaged up as well? :)

It takes a man of upstanding character to realize that some traditions are very much worth while, even though today's society tries to influence differently. I like the idea of showing respect for one another, saying yes ma'am yes sir, holding doors open for people, taking my hat off when I shake hands, e t c. Our society today seems almost bent on discarding traditions that maintain a wholesome society, under the guise of 'I just don't like to do it anymore that's a thing of the past'.

I hear you, and I agree, except for in the offseason when it is cold out jeans seem to be the choice for me.

I'm 65 years old and I too believe in holding doors open for people and saying please ,thank you , and your welcome. I also treat everyone I meet with the respect that is due to them. None of that has a damn thing to do with wearing jeans, playing a game, when it's cloudy, windy, and 50 degrees outside.

Sarcasm, tongue and cheek , either one.

Fair enough. Now I really have to be done!

stay around. It's a discussion. At the end of the day we all love the game. I will play with people who wear jeans, slippers. This misconception that I'm on a man hunt for anybody wearing jeans was really built up maybe by my strong initial statement of should not be allowed public or private. Now really how far is that gonna go other than this thread. It's my opinion and if it rubs the wrong way then we talk and state our case. Same can be said when you see people stretching the hell out of yoga pants. Aren't you saying to yourself, come on now =,)

Ya, some I see wearing yoga pants........................uh....the "cottage cheese look"???? Yikes, go baggy please.

So you have a problem with yoga pants, some with jeans, some with underwear showing.

Do all of you jeans supporters have issues with bib overalls? Yoga pants. Short shorts (on guys?)? Sleeveless t shirts? Any of the above on the course? Beachwear is ok?

Or do you also have a line. No told ya so coming from me, just curious.

Honestly, no I don't.

I have more important things to worry about than what someone else is wearing. The only expectation I have is that people respect the dress code of the course they are playing on, enjoy the game at a snappy pace of play, and don't behave like a wienie towards me or anyone else.

I will also say two more things: First, what a person is wearing has NO bearing on their respect for you, themselves, or the game of golf. And second, the discussion is fine to have here, but if someone said something to me on the golf course I'd laugh in their face and tell them to mind their business. It is nobody's job to police me, with the possible exception of the course itself if I am out of their dress code.

I have not seen any policing, just opinions both ways on a subject. Having a desire to hit see certain clothing is not policing. It would be different if anyone said they confronted someone about allowed clothing on the course.

I just wanted to give a full answer since this has been beaten to death in other threads, I only want to post once (or twice if you count this post  )

Mike73 - restricting jeans (or more precisely pants made from denim materials) from golf courses is solely because 100 years ago denim jeans were strictly the clothing of the working class. There was a strict class structure in America and the working class was not worthy of playing golf.

This is not the same as the traditions of "showing respect for one another, saying yes ma'am yes sir, holding doors open for people, taking my hat off when I shake hands, e t c."

I cannot understand why maintaining the tradition of restricting denim material from the golf course is a tradition that is worth while to maintain - "It takes a man of upstanding character to realize that some traditions are very much worth while ....". So since you are obviously a "man of upstanding character" please explain.

Why would discarding a "tradition" or vestige of the days when society maintained a strict class structure be the same as "discarding traditions that maintain a wholesome society, under the guise of 'I just don't like to do it anymore that's a thing of the past"? Have you thought maybe this "tradition" of the past was wrong?

I know you can never win an internet argument and I know there are lots of guys that think just like you do and will never be convinced otherwise but perhaps you can maybe take a split seconds to consider why this specific material, denim, was deemed unworthy of being worn on a golf course and whether or not it is a tradition worth keeping.

Thanks. Now I have ads all over the place for those stupid shorts because I clicked on the link :angry22:

I don't know what you are talking about? Is it a virus on your computer? Because I click on that link often enough with no problem. Also, you can get the shorts on sale for almost half the price listed.

Many of the jean wearers, those specifically in the golf season, I find are usually ungroomed and seedy looking.
