Zach Johnson vs Justin Thomas, Who is the longest?

I was listening to Zach Johnsons interview after the first round of the Sony. He was talking about about far he was hitting it, his ball speed and the like. So i pulled up his stats for the first round. He was driving the ball 311. Justin Thomas only hitting it 288. Whoever would have thought that Zach could blow it by Justin? not me. Thoughts? I looked at stats of some of the longer hitters and they were averaging 320ish. So long drive holes are usually measured on just a couple of holes, so yes most are hitting driver.

This is a tough one, Caddied on Wednesday Pro Am and had Zach Johnson as our Pro. I have played the course and he was NOT exceptional Longer than some of the other Pro's that play. Secondly. Is the comparison Driver vs Driver or is JT using his 3 wood or less.

 

 

The course layout is not necessarily that long to warrant A Lot of Driver usage.

 

Zach used a LOT of Drivers on Wednesday same with Thursday. So, was JT using Driver as often as Zach was?

 

 

I dont think Zach has the same swing speed as JT in my honest opinion. The lines JT was playing vs Zach was playing to as well as accuracy plays the "total Distance" numbers...

Zach’s ball speed was 168th on Tour last year while JT’s was 29th. Unless Zach started playing the new M4 and went SuperSpeed Golf crazy he’s way behind Justin.

ZJ is one of the shortest hitters on Tour but he is also one of the best wedge players, accurate off the tee, and one heck of a putter. That's where he makes up for his lack of distance. Can't fault 2 majors and 12 wins on the PGA Tour but comparing him to JT for length is lunacy.
