The Woosie divot.

A friend of mine's son has just started playing golf and looks to have a decent bit of natural ability. He's a curious type, and asked about my large divots, and if it meant I was thus too steep into impact. I tried to explain to him that it's a case of hitting into the back of the ball, squarely, and then continuing through, with a shallow, slightly descending path, so the club bottoms out a few inches past the ball... then I just googled a picture of Woosie and showed him this. Even at 60-odd, Woosie still does it better than I can articulate it.

Boy, could Woosey play when he was at his zenith, loved his swing.

 

Nice to see him at 66 yo playing the British Senior Open last weekend.

I'm from a couple of miles down the road from the late, great John Jacobs.

I love polishing shoes….

 

aside, Trevino used to polish passing pga tour pros’ shoes who would play money games against him in El Paso…

 

he’d humbly polish their shoes who came to whip the upstart Texan hustler…who’d then go drop a 64 on them…rinse repeat the next day….

 

Le humbled many a visiting tour pro in the mid 60s while he was owning the texas open golfing scene prior to his US Open explosion to fame…

Had the pleasure of playing a round with him once as his son was on my school golf team (he's a year behind me in school). This was Mid 1990's so Woosie was still a big deal. This is around the same time I got to play 9 holes with Ernie again through my school golf team.

I reckon some people forgot Woosnam was world No. 1 for 50 consecutive weeks. During that era there was Faldo, Couples, Norman and Price to name some greats.
