And that's what is strange to me.   I can not put my finger on it but David Graham never looked like a 'golfer' to me.  To me,  as a young kid at the time of his 'run',  he always seemed to look like someone who looked as if he just walked out of a business meeting but yet,  somehow had an innate talent to win golf tournaments.  

 

To my eye he did not look like a guy who 'dug it out of the dirt'.

Gary Player circa 1974 was my favorite iteration of his swing…he added a tremendous lag into his down swing to increase spin and alter his ball flight to adapt to the agronomy revolution of the era…

 

His lag was equal, if not more substantial than Sergio 25 years later…

 

Players shoulder turn in the mid 70s coupled with a massive front load was always a thing of beauty fwiw

his swing is one I often cite when I hear the lie that a reverse c is bad for the back…

watsons symphony of a swing has been the same since Byron got it perfectly synched to his now-famous rhythm…

In 1971, Lee Trevino had one of the greatest runs the golf world has ever seen…it was relatively brief but his 1971 season saw him unequivocally eclipse Nicklaus [for a stint] as the undisputed king of golf… 

 

Lucky for us, in February of 1971 he did a detailed photo shoot of his swing…we have a perfect, complete glimpse into the move that would see Trevino win, in stunning succession, the US Open, Canadian Open, and Open Championship in consecutive weeks…

 

his swing was then, as it is now, a thing of athletic genius.

I have no idea…don’t know that one…

72 was the year he birdied 5 straight on Saturday…

lee wanted to vault past sanders so he wouldn’t have to watch his pre-shot routine which drove him crazy and Lee felt it cost him the 70 open

I've seen all of the old US opens on usga channel.  73 not the best, abc did not start covering Miller til his back 9, then the coverage immediately ends when Miller is done.  Lots of folks still in contention like AP out on the course.  The 77 open that Hubert green won (I think) is worse, there's no sound at all.

I remain mystified the USGA won’t allow anyone to remaster their old film reels…

They have high-quality images ready for digitization…

 

The BBC has been very generous and letting people update their old broadcasts…

I can watch Don Mclean sing in 1972 in hi DEF on the BBC… But I can’t watch Miller battle Weiskoff and others in the 73 open…

It makes no sense

 

I really wish the USGA would make available their entire library…

id happily pay for it…

 

Here’s an example of a remastered reel form the same time period…sound and video are amazing for a performance from half a century ago
