New Mysterious PING Iron that looks like iBlade/G700 Combo

What is this thing??

 

It has popped up in a lot of Ping bags at the Career Builder Challenge wrx pics that Greg took. It appears to be some type of long iron replacement. It is definitely not the G400 Crossover or the G700 iron and there is almost zero offset.

 

It basically looks like a traditional muscleback, but with a toe screw.

 

There is also an area about 1/2" wide towards the toe section on the back of the club that looks like it will eventually host the product name, kind of like the original Glide wedges had when they first came out on tour as prototypes.

 

Anyone have the inside scoop.

I think that's the point. They've got the chunky hybrid and now (maybe) a "players" driving iron.

The Rapture is FAR from a chunky hybrid. The Rapture 2 iron is a "Players" driving iron. BB

I was told there was a slimmer version of G700 that they held off from releasing this spring and hopefully will release in the spring. Looks like this is it.

There is a players version of the G700 scheduled for release in Fall of 2018... They look very much like the P790. Bigger than iBlade, but smaller than i200. Evidently some of the reps thought this was what was coming this spring, but were straightened out that the G700 was a potential GMax replacement that looks more like a full set of crossovers. Lots of offset, very wide sole, very big, “very ugly”...

 

And it is hollow? That doesn't sound appealing at all. Would it replace the i200 line? Doesn't make sense considering how the i200s are amazing and are a new redesign. Is it full set or just driving irons?

Sounds like it was supposed to be a players version of the G700 using the hollow technology. No reason to replace anything. Look at the 20 SKUs Callaway has now with the Rogue. Look at the TM line P790, P770, P750, P730. The 770 and 750 are overlapping.. iBlade and i200 are 431 steel, these would be hollow design out of 17-4 ph and maraged steel face, G400 17-4 ph. So different designs and materials just like every other manufacturer..

 

I am surprised Ping let one out of the plant and lucky we have pixel peepers here

 

I really don't get who would want something like that other than for a 2/3/4 iron.

Hard for me to believe that is a replacement for the iBlade. Too radical of a departure, given how many pros have the iBlade in their bag..

Could be a higher price point replacement for the Anser forged line. I don’t care what it is. I can’t wait to try it, assuming that it is released.
