2018 Fairway Woods

As a self proclaimed club ho, I'm always on the hunt for that unicorn 3w. Havent heard too much real world feedback about the new TM offerings, or the Rogue, or the F8. Have seen a few reviews, but the drivers are getting all the press right now, which I get

Have any of you guys hit any of the new fairway stuff? What did you like? Or dislike? What are you going to bag this year? Why?

Thanks guys!

I think once you find fairways you like, leave them alone. Three wood may be the exception. Always looking for more carry.

Nothing wrong with the glued hosel in the Rogue - to make weight for Jailbreak, they had to eliminate the exra weight of the adapter system. I prefer a glued hosel in fairways in general - makes the club lighter.

I’m always looking at getting a newer 3w but I agree with you, as I’ve bagged the TEE EX9 longer than anything else. I actually am on my 2nd one as I bought one and convince myself an M2 would be better....trade in the EX9 and ended up hating the M2 and so I got another EX9 off the bay.

I also agree on the hosel and I’m sure Cally just couldn’t do the adj hosel along with all the other tech in there but I wish they could have so obviously you could easily test other shafts #1 and #2 because Cally has the BEST adj hosel out there and you really dial it in without jacking up the grip location and shaft orientation. But if it flies well and works for me with a glued hosel, I’m sure I’ll forget about it not being there quickly!

Ive spent close to 1000 on fairway woods over the past 5 years, some custom fit, and the original rocketballz with stock stiff has beat them all. Only club in the bag I wasnt custom fit for

But Im thinking about an f7 or f8

Me too man....really wish I had kept mine. It was a bomber. Have looked for them in the last month or so on the bay and everything there is in such bad shape.

I had an F6 I really enjoyed and the f8 looks great but I wonder about the 70+ gram stock shafts and how those would feel. I like lighter shafts in my woods. But I plan on giving it a fair test soon.

I'd be surprised if I switch from my 2017 M2 Tour 4 wood. Thing has a great setup behind the ball, the perfect face depth and can pipe the ball. Don't really see myself changing the FW for 2018.

I just did a fairway wood fitting yesterday. Hit the F8 / F8+, Rogues, Epics, G400, 917 F2/F3 - all with multiple shafts (when possible). They had not yet received the new Taylormade stuff (M3/M4).

Cobra was by far the leader in the clubhouse (and I could / would easily put either model in my bag) until I tried the 2017 M2 Tour with the stock Kuro Kage. I went with the 16.5*, though I could have easily gamed the 15*. Plus, they had just dropped the price $100 so it was a win-win.

Fantastic stick and I can’t imagine the M4 Tour being much better.

I hit the f8 and f8+ in bays at pgass and really liked the feel. I didn’t pay much attention to the numbers since it’s mid winter but I’d say both clubs were promising.

The F8 is on my radar but the + just looks tiny. I like a bigger club behind the ball. But if it performs....I’d def consider it!

I loved my m2 tour 3 wood, I’m sure the new m4 tour is a beast as well. Interested to see the rogue fairway woods against the new taylormades now that they have jailbreak

I have the M2 tour 3 wood now also and really like it. It is a more compact head shape but with a deeper face so easier to hit off the tee (which I use quite a bit). My only issue is it seems like mishits are more punished then I thought they would be. I would like a more forgiving fairway wood, but afraid some are too shallow or just as unforgiving. I'm considering the rogue SZ and also the tour edge CBX, although I have a feeling the rogue SZ will be more shallow and the CBX is going to about the same forgiveness as the M2 tour.

I typically like a deeper and more compact looking fairway wood also, but was pleasantly surprised at how good the regular Rogue and the Cobra F8 look at address. They might fit your eye okay and provide the forgiveness that you're looking for (a nice balance). They're much better looking at address than say the G400 or the Mizuno offering.

Because 3w tech doesn't change too much over the years. I think Rogue is getting jail break... that's about it. All fairways are good now. It comes down to sound, feel and looks. Distance won't change much year to year.. my old XR16 probably goes as far if not a hint further than my F8, but I prefer the F8 on looks and feel, so therefore it's the better club to me.

Good to know. I'm also considering the Rogue SZ fairway wood, as I need something with less spin. So far, I'm liking the look of it and if it can keep the spin down, I think it will be a lot more forgiving then the M2 tour fairway.

Really like the new g400 fairway woods. Have a stretch 3 and a 5. Liked them better than both Rogues though those are really good too especially if you like your fwy woods smaller looking.

If you are simply looking for the longest fairway club, I do not think you can beat the Exotics CBX, which was released late summer, I believe. Some feel that it is only for higher swing speeds, but it is a great club. I also really like my Titleist 917 F2 15 degree with an Even Flow blue shaft. It is a great all around fairway club. I have yet to try any of the new releases, but many are raving about the new Rogue.

You see guys always looking for something more in their 3 wood. Not sure what that might be?

JP wants his three wood to go a somewhat specific distance, not just long long long...like his 7 Iron, he just wants to know what to expect from it distance wise...

Not sure what dudes are looking for from that wood...

This^ longest fairway I've hit and easy to elevate. I'm average ss, however this really works for me. The ex10 was much shorter for me.

In terms of all around versatility and consistency, I’m sold on Ping. Distance wise the Tour DF M2 I had was crazy on perfect strikes but it just wasn’t consistent enough.

Yea, read a few reviews about the CBX being really long. I definitely like the lower spin, but the forgiveness doesn't seem to be great. I had an E8 beta fairway for awhile and didn't find that very forgiving. A few really long hits, but then some mishits substantially punished. The other thing is the CBX is $350 and I would still re-shaft it, so not a cheap fairway wood.

I’m looking for something that performs off the tee AND the deck. I’m looking for something that flies at a good trajectory...not too low and not too high. So like I said....unicorn 3w. Got to hit the Rogue tonight @ DSG...sim was off so no #’s to gauge...but it felt great and sounded great. Felt a little heavy but if it performs, I could live with that. Would have to hit er outside before I could render a final verdict.
