My '17 tour issue M2 is going to be tough to beat out, but I did try the Rogue SZ 3w last night and came away very impressed.

How did it sit to your eye. Open at all?

Square to slightly open. I hit it damn near straight over and over again. Definitely will be snagging one when they come out to play around with.

Nothing is safe in my bag!

  • 7 months later...

I just did a custom fitting yesterday for a fairway wood and hit just about everything on the market and ended up buying the F8+ with an aftermarket shaft.

The numbers were superior to everything else and since I use it primarily off the tee, it made the most sense. However, the rails are there just in case the occasional 250+ yard second shot into a par 5 comes up and I need something off the deck. It pains me to stick the Nike Vapor Fly in the closet though. We’ve been best friends for a while but I felt it was time to move on. I told her it’s me not you. Hopefully that made it not sting as much.

I've been hitting a Rogue 3w with a senior shaft and had pretty good luck with it. Sometimes, I have trouble hitting if off the deck, but when hit square I get pretty decent distance with it. Anything else out there that can deliver better performance (distance) that I could consider?

I'm not a long hitter and don't have a high swing speed, so distance is key for me.

Playing the Tour Edge Exotics

CBX 3T three wood. Just a beast. Enjoy the smaller head, ball flight, and it allows me to work the ball fairly easy. Enjoy the results from the fairway and the tee. May update my hybrid also to the CBX.

Ping G400 has been the best 3wood I have had. I refused to let go of my 2016 M2, but this is so much easier to hit off of the deck and just as long for me

I came from a Rogue 3w to a G400 and I couldn’t agree more. The Ping is so so much easier to hit off the dirt. Honestly for me it’s longer than the Rogue too.

maybe a 4 wood (16.5 vs 15 loft)

Still liking my R15 4W, it's very reliable and quite long, not sure if the new TM stuff is a big upgrade? M4 driver was a significant upgrade over the R15.

I'd suggest trying the M4 16.5 degree I found to be significantly longer than even the M2 and R15. It's also been more stable in terms of trajectory and mid hits don't really suffer. Always felt the R15 had to be pured every time.

Is the clubface square or closed? TM was notorious for closed faces on the non-tour lines.

I'm an older hacker--driver swing speed around 90. The CBX 3T wood has not worked for me. But the Tour Edge EX10 4 fairway with the Aldila Rogue shaft has been spectacular. Better than Ping, TM--and better than the Rogue 4 wood I will now be moving out of the bag.

It sits closed, looking at it there in the garage it's really obviously closed at address. I don't see it so much on the course but it's definitely closed.

The Tour version profile scares me at address and for whatever reason (my ability mainly) it doesn't give me the confidence or results I need.

The Rogues seems to be relatively low spin - solid and great distance. But I wasn't getting enough air time - need more spin - and went with Exotics EX10 Beta - have the 4 and 5 wd - the 5 wd for me is a real winner in my non stock shaft - if you go with the GD AD 50 stock shaft, consider going up in flex - it's soft.

The EX10 Beta feel great (Ti face), go long, forgiving but not ultra forgiving - great club.

I know it's not a new model but the 816 Alpha at 16 degrees caught my eye with the bargain basement prices they had on a site I frequent. I picked one up and figured why not see how it compares to my 16 M1 5 wood that I cranked the loft down on.

Keeping it as fair as possible, the 816 is tons better for me. My M1 would either go 220 or 250 depending on my swing tempo and if I really caught it and got the shaft to kick properly. This 816 is consistently going 245 for me both off the tee and off the turf. Maybe it's the shaft change (went from Graphite Design TP-7s to AD-DI 8x) but there's something about it that just plain works for me!

In regards to new fairway woods from this year, I'd have to say the G400 would get my vote but I only hit about 5 range balls with it.

Hit the Rogue 5 wood again today, and off the deck was rough, but caught one off the tee that was amazing. The best feeling ever off a fairway wood, long and straight. Maybe with time I could make it work, don't know. I keep thinking about that F6? Is it really That good!

That was what ultimately made me give up my Rogue fairway woods was MY inability to hit them well off the dirt. Good off the tee no doubt. Went to G400. Almost as long off the tee but waaaay easier to hit from the fairway.

I too have the BBA 816. I have it at 14 adj to 15D.

I have a new f8+ 3 wood with an even flow blue shaft and it’s a rocket launcher if you need it to be but still offers plenty of control and workability.

I agree with this 100%. I play mine with the NV shaft that is listed in my signature though. I love it.

I bought the Rogue 4 wood 17* FW with GD IZ 7s shaft at the start of summer. This is a great combo for me, very hot face, I use it all the time from the tee on short, tight par 4's. Nice ball flight, even off the deck on par 5's. I have had issues in the past with 3 woods (15*) especially from the deck. Very happy so far with this combo.
