Aldila shaft progression- Driver thru hybrid?

Just a quick question on my shafts for my metal woods. I have always like Aldila Rogue and Tour shafts, and this is the setup I am headed to. Just wondering if this makes sense in regards to weight and launch progression as it goes through the set.

 

Driver- Rogue Silver 125 60g Tour Stiff, the 125 is a little heavier for a 60. Would probably play a 65 or 70 for most other shafts, but this feels great and just flat out works.

 

3w- Tour Green 75g X Stiff. Shortened an inch so needed a little heavier shaft. The Tour Green plays a little softer to flex for me so went with the XS as I wanted a really stable 3w shaft.

 

F6 Baffler- Aldila Rogue Black 80g Stiff, haven’t purchased this yet, but based on my experience with other Aldila shafts feel this is the right progression. Need a little heavier weight for the short 5w, and the Black plays more true to flex but launches a little higher which I feel I would need with this club.

 

4H- Aldila Rogue Black 85H Regular. Played this shaft for over a year, Best hybrid shaft I’ve ever used. Switched to reg flex as that is what I play in irons and wanted a more seamless transition to my 105g CTL shafts.

Yes, but not for the baffler. Can't find a fitter with cut down heavier fwy shafts with Cobra tips. Especially in 80-85g shafts that have been replaced by Rogue MAX and 2KXV.

The only "right" progression is the one that works best for you :-)

 

But progressions (in weight) similar to yours is not uncommon.

My only other option is to go in and get fit for an F8+ 4/5 and order a new one. But was hoping to use the baffler I have and one of the shaft combinations I either have or could pick up for $80-$100. Might be best to just sell all the shafts I have, and trade in the baffler for a new F8+. Would get to at least see how the new head compares to the old. If it doesn't beat it, maybe I can sort out a better shaft option for the older F6 in the process. Never tried the F7 because the head was too large, but this new F8+ looks to be a close cousin to the old Baffler.

I find it more interesting in the progression of flexes from x stiff to reg.

 

I basically do the same thing...stiff driver...lighter weight to regular hybrids...then irons in a heavier weight.

 

I dont exactly know why...It just works best for me.

I'm not an aggressive iron swinger and have a more relaxed tempo. I could probably go up to a stiff flex, and might end up that way on my next set. The CTL feels a little stiff to me for a reg flex anyway. On metal woods, I tend to get more aggressive, which I think a lot of folks do. Which is why I see a lot of people playing stiffer shafts in woods than irons. I just know the ball launches straighter longer with stiff heavier graphite shafts than the stock lightweight stuff.

 

That x stiff is an anomaly and the only reason I have it is because it doesn't feel anything like an x flex. But it seems to be working at the minute so who knows.

The progressions may make sense logically. But until you hit the shaft/head combo, they're just logical.

 

The way the shaft fits your swing is huge. Then The way the shaft performs with the head is next in importance, imo.

 

You may love the way a shaft feels (diamana blue/ s+ for me) but not love the Ball flight in the head ( m2 3wood).

 

I have the 125msi in my driver and LOVE it. I tried the 110msi 70 in my 3wood and just couldn't get used to the "where is the clubhead" feel.

 

Likewise, I really liked the feel of a matrix reign in the m2 3wood but wanted a lower ball flight. Tried several shafts and finally found the one that feels right and produces the right flight characteristics.

 

Unless you get fit, it's a bit of a crapshoot.

Shaft flex is another part of the crapshoot. Some shafts play soft to stated flex, some play stiff to flex.

Thanks for the help. My fitter is waiting on the F8+ head and also the 2KNV green 75 shafts. He has the 70 blue and also has the older Tour Blue ATX 85 that so many on here liked in the baffler. I think when he gets the cart pieces in I will take my f6 and get fit for the F8+ and also compare everything to the F6. Pick which ever combo comes out.

 

However these shafts are in the 43" length instead of 41.75 that the baffler plays at. Is 1.25" too much to choke down on and get a proper fit. Just don't want to add another variable that makes the final club setup still a crap shoot.
