When was the last time you played with a golfer that still used one of these?

So because I was a single I got paired up with a threesome a few weeks back. One of the men actually used the ball marker from his glove to mark every putt. I know it was common place back a few years, but when did you last play with a golfer who solely used the tiny snap thingy all round to mark his ball? I tend to be a somewhat impatient guy so it bothered me a tad that he took almost 5 seconds to remove it and another 5 seconds to replace it every time. What no coin or poker chip from your pocket, a ball repair tool's magnetic piece that is clipped right on your belt, or one attached to the bill of your golf cap? Ugh and I am old enough to remember when the masses did use those.

I know there are probably a few of you out there that might still use one. Fess up.

You are not being cool at all. It's a bad look. lol

My FJ rain gloves have one on it.

Really? This bothers you...? LMAO I use a hat clip magnetic these days, but the FJ glove I bought last spring still came with a snap on ball marker. So did the Wilson ladies glove my wife bought for range use. So they still sell them. Who cares what you use to mark your ball.... LOL... Winter GolfWRX topics are priceless. :-P

Man, spring cannot get here soon enough.

Look for other upcoming riveting topics during the winter hiatus:

1. Should I wear a belt with worn holes?

2. Sunglasses upside down on hat or on head or on neck band?

3. Only a DB would wear a visor in winter.

4. Scarf, Turtleneck high zip sweater on windy days?

5. Does eating Borscht after a winter round help rebuild cells?

6. Should I carry a Playmate Cooler to keep my golf balls warm?

I'm half kidding gents.

I just was seeing how prevalent the use of these were these days.

Yes it is probably at topic because of the winter doldrums.

love using gloves with ball markers. Haven't had one in awhile though. Thanks for the reminder. I like it even more now that it may bother people who get bothered about things they should'nt be bothered over.

Much rather one of those then some stupid manhole cover poker chip and having to ask if the guy has a dime he can use instead if he's going to mark it 3 feet from the hole.

I would rather play with the mark the ball with the glove thingy guy than the mark the ball with a poker chip guy.

Im a poker chip guy. I can see them so much better. But if it’s close to the hole I’ll either ask, or just switch to a coin if I think it’s going to be anywhere close to someone’s line.

The guys who take the longest to mark their ball are the guys who have to constantly fish in their pockets to find a coin.

The easiest, quickest way: The ones on your hat. Unfortunately, they got a bad wrap as being an "LPGA thing," and most guys won't use them.

I miss the days when a golfer would say something like 'it's a bad look' and that would result in funny looks from the other members in the group. ie. who cares how it looks? The speed issue is valid but I kind of shake my head on the 'look' aspect of it.

Sometime in the past few years, can't remember when, I found myself without my usual ball markers (one on hat and second on divot repair tool) and was very grateful that the glove I was wearing at least had one. These days the gloves I use don't have the marker but it wouldn't hurt if they did. I would rather be over prepared than under.

exactly.

I keep a few small coins in my pocket as well. You MUST be considerate of the other players putting lines. I agree that if your mark is fairly off the beaten path, so to speak, a poker chip is acceptable.

Thanks for the great post.

I played with a guy who claimed to shoot 80 fairly regularly. Took him 6 to get to the (par 4) first green. Popped the snap off to mark his ball, then popped it back on before putting (still wearing his glove). Dude probably shot 125 that day.

I've seen it used in a pinch, but yeah I haven't seen an actual golfer use that in a very long time. They're hard to see, too, until your ball hits the damn thing, so its really annoying when people use them.

Yep. We'd hear about how other brands do a better job of keeping balls warmer for a longer period of time. People would start posting temperature readings, timetables and heat loss charts,

I don’t get this sentiment. If it’s not in your line of play, why would it matter? Nothing in the rules about using an object requested by a FC as a ball marker, so as long as it’s not in your line, I would politely tell you no. I typically have 1 marker in my pocket, and it is whatever comes out when I reach in my bag. I’m not going to go out of my way to go dig another marker out just because the sight of mine makes someone uncomfortable.

So we r taking about 10secs?

Yeah, but that's 10 seconds PER PUTT.

Anyone who uses the snap to mark is likely going to 3-putt every green, so that's 54 putts per round. 54*10 = 540 seconds, which equates to 9 extra minutes... if everyone in the group does this (which they probably do, since these guys tend to end up with each other since nobody else will play with them), that's an extra 36 minutes per group.

If they're the first group out, the course is behind schedule right from the rip, and likely will never recover so the whole day is ruined.

If they're members and have preferential treatment (which they probably do since anyone who uses the snap to mark has a ton of F U money stashed away from a lifetime of frugality) they're getting this tee time EVERY WEEKEND.

The course will eventually lose members, and revenue, to the point they have to close and jobs will be lost. The club will be liquidated and the property turned into low-income housing or some other "paradise-paved-into-parking-lot" scenario.

GDP will shrink, unemployment will rise.

...

Gotta consider the ripple effect, man.
