Titleist 718 new thread - AP2 only

Is titleist now offering the DG 120 in the AP’s? Is there an upcharge?

No, they don't. I've been deciding between these and the CBs and asked a couple of places if Tour Issue 120 x100s were an option and they said no. Hit the 718 AP2's with standard PX 6.0 in them and they felt great. Easy to get in the air. I put them side by side with the CBs (both in 7i) and the top lines looked the same to me. Same with blade length. As far as offset goes, I'm not sure how anyone can complain about offset being more with AP2 vs CB. I mean AP2 does have more offset by .5mm. If someone can tell the difference of .5mm without being told there was a difference I would be slightly impressed.

Tried them at the Pete Carlson Demo Days event at the COD, really liked the look & feel so it was time to upgrade was lucky to pick up a demo set that should arrive on April 03rd ... excited!

Before I had to depart back to Canada, got three range sessions in while I was in SoCal with my almost new/demo set of 718 AP2's. They came with NS Pro 880 AMC Stiff shafts, in direct comparison to my 714's they sure look sweet, and I would also say they feel better on direct/solid hit's as well perhaps slightly more forgiving or I'm hitting they better than my 714 AP2's. The NS Pro 880 have a higher ball flight than my Steelfiber i95's, not sure I like that, will have to test them further on the course to get a better idea, my home course normally opens at the end of April, unfortunately the courses up here are still white and it's snowing out (April 12), that sucks.

Depending on my head-to-head testing this spring, I may just pull the 718 heads and install them on my Steelfiber i95's, more to follow.

I have the Steelfiber i95s in my 718 AP2's and love them, but also had them in my 716 and 710 as well. "For me" they are awesome. Obviously everyone is different so I don't want to say to make the switch. But if you've played them before maybe try and find a demo 718 AP2 with the i95 and purchase it to do some serious head to head comparison or maybe have 1 one of you clubs like a 7 iron reshafted and see if the results are what your after. To at least put any doubts to rest on shaft options.

I'm still rocking my 710's. I don't have a lot of extra money for hoe'ing but I got the itch. I will probably try out the new 718s. I love the look but I'm not sure if I'll have much different results than what I currently get.

I too still have the 710s... I'll wear a hole strait through my 7 iron before I get rid of them, love them.

I went to a fitting today for the 718s, I think they are a big improvement over the 716 especially the feel is softer. I currently play the z945 and looking for more forgiveness. The only thing i didn't like with the 718s was that I was getting around 7500-8000 in spin with the DG S300 however i think this is more of a swing issue than the club. Has someone ordered the AP2 with stronger lofts?

I had the same spin issues when I was being fit for the 718's with the DG s300 shafts. Turns out my angle of attack was really steep. We tested some lighter shafts and my spin numbers came down due to my angle of attack decreasing. I ended up with Steelfiber i95's and the 718's. You may want to try a different shaft combo.

I tried some lighter shafts but I was spraying all over the place and I like the feel of the S300 and i am familiar with it. Thinking about ordering them a few degrees stronger to lowering the spin or I will stay with my current setup for one more season.

The AP2/AP3 combo set have been delivered. Now if only it wasn't going to snow tomorrow... 213540d40d801f3c5fbe521d4930090c.jpg1f80fb470f973ea138767d6470541d1d.jpg66ced61f35bbdce22ffa74f936d5f34c.jpgb518db91b8c08cf6242ff25713dead00.jpgce955d9b0c5cd699c9880f8dc9b7456b.jpg91fbf5263491b16e91db39d976b18a25.jpg4e11e5604ac02422d93218c2fc69cc73.jpg

Did you adjust the lofts of the 4-5-6 at all due to the loft comparisons of AP2/3 being quite different?

I did adjust the lofts of the AP3's to fit in line with the AP2's.

They do not. I had to buy them separately and have them put together.

so Ive played a few rounds now with Ap2. Maybe 100 holes.

They are every hit as good as they AP2s in the past and probably more so.

I find them extremely forgiving.

A have ballooned the AMTs a few times though now that Ive switch to a more neutral swing instead of my hard draw I may be in line for a shaft change.

Set with PX incoming.

I'm interested in this as well.

I loved my 714s, currently own the 716s, and have hit the 718s extensively to include outdoors with a Trackman. To my eye, both the 714 and 718 look quite a bit better but I seem to get the most consistent results from the 716s. I have a little scratch available to move to the 718s but I'm concerned it would be a step backward other than the looks. I'm almost embarrassed to say the looks of the 716 bother me since they look great at address and its only that hideous badging on the back that looks like it was developed by a summer intern.

The designer that was responsible for the looks of the 710, 712, and 714 went on to Cobra

Cobra also got the guy who designed the Titleist DCI irons, 975D Driver and then the Taylormade R-series woods aka R7, R5, etc. Cobra stuff is going to get better and better.

Before the weather got nasty again..... It's currently 35*, 40 mph winds and rain/sleet...I was able to play 27 holes, plus hit the range once with these over the past couple of days.

I don't know if it's the shaft or the head.. . Or the combination, but I'm extremely surprised with how they are working for me.

The DG120 is heavier than my last shaft, which I can certainly tell when I pick up my bag.... But when swinging, it doesn't feel any different.

My distances have increased.... At least a club and it feels like I'm putting in much less effort into the swing (maybe a benefit of the heavier shaft?). Now I don't hit the ball as far as most WRXers seem to, but previously I would hit a 7 iron about 160, 165 if I really stepped on it.

The other day I had multiple shots with these around the 175 Mark and a smooth 7 put me right on the number.

The ball flight is fairly high for me. The wind didn't affect it much at all, which was surprising. I'm using the new Snell MTB Black, so maybe that's helping a little bit. But I think this has been a positive move forward for my game.

What's even better is that I think that as the weather warms up, I should see more positive gains.

The only thing I have to get used to is that these clubs give a tiny hint of a click when I hit them. I've read that's something that you'll get with Titleist irons so I'm not too worried about it, but it's different compared to my previous Ping irons. The feel itself is solid. You can certainly sense off center hits, but they still seem to go a good distance in the correct direction... Which is nice.

Looking forward to getting more rounds and more swings in with these. Definitely a great purchase so far...

I just ordered the same exact set up on Monday with project x 6.5. Cant wait to get them on the course.

What’s the top of your bag looking like? I think I’m going 3w and 19* H1 since it’s a little more forgiving than the H2 and would probably suit me better coming from 5/7 woods

I will keep the upper end the same as it is now. 15* 3 wood and I have a 2 hybrid that I have the loft set to 18.75* fits in pretty well with what I am trying to do. Eventually will probably get a 19* H2.

Just ordered after a demo today. Played the AP2 712’s for 3 or 4 years and made the switch to Apex CF 16. Didn’t have any intention of hitting the AP2’s as I really wanted to give the AP3’s a test drive. Tried everything from P790, to all of the Titleist and Callaway offerings and the AP2’s won straight up without question! The P790 were actually pretty solid but almost too long for me. (longer than my apex) I don’t need to muscle a 7 iron 180+ with the variance in distance all over the place.

I saw the track man data repeat a 2-3 yard variance between all of the AP2 shots which is exactly what I am looking improve upon. Surprising the AP3 was the worst of the bunch for me. Liked the look but the feel and turf interaction just didn’t fit me and the results showed it.

Specs were KBS Tour Stiff hard stepped and 2 degrees flat.

Pretty excited to go full circle and play the AP2s again!

Played a local course yesterday morning and tied my lowest round there with 74. It was boring golf, 1 birdie and 3 bogeys, not typically my style... But man was I happy with the way I played.

I've never kept clubs in the bag this long. Maybe that's been my inconsistency problem. Probably gamed 13 or 14 different iron sets last year.

Was hitting GIR yesterday, and if I missed it was barley off to the side. Chipping was on point, lots of tap in pars.

These things are super forgiving. I used to be scared to play them, always wanting to go to chunkier irons as my iron game is the worst part of my game. Finally have some iron confidence back. And my wedge game has just been filthy, it's a dangerous combo... If only I could straighten out the driver.

these irons are Legit. Im throwing lasers with them since switching to PX 6.0 .

I can easily hit the 4 iron but find the 3 iron impossible to hit. And I've never had a problem with any 3 iron in the past. I'm getting old!

Gonna try a TMB 3 iron with PXI.

Just got mine in on Friday, and made time to take them out to the range. 4-PW Soft Stepped X100's.

Honestly, I was a bit worried about the spin from what I'd read in various sources. After today, those worries are gone and am very happy I went with these over a combo set of Mizuno MP-18's. It's been a long time since I've played anything other than Mizuno irons, but something about the MP-18's just didn't feel right to me. I have no regrets and think I'll be getting along just fine with these for a long while.
