New Iron set - Titleist AP3!

Stopped by my local Dick’s today on my day off. Was looking around and saw these new AP3’s they had. Decided to hit a few on their simulator. It was a 7iron with the Stiff S300 shaft.

 

WOW! This thing felt awesome, even on mishits. I have a set of Mizuno JPX 825s now with a TT s300 shafts and these AP3s outplay them for sure. The guy fitted me and I luckily ended with standard length, standard lie, as I was hitting them pretty in the middle consistently. I’m not a great golfer by any means but these felt awesome. I was drawing the ball on most shots, carried an average 165 with them and a few shots carried around 175 even. Dispersement was pretty tight around the middle and just to the left.

 

These just look and feel great to me. I’m not good enough for players irons but I hate the look of game improvement irons so these are perfect for me. When I first set them down they seemed tiny to me but I hit them really well. Can’t wait to get them out to the course and see how they do off the course grass.

 

I was honestly amazed and the results and how good these clubs felt. They were certainly pricey but worth the money (so far).

Have you tried the AP1's? If so, how do they compare?

I have not tried the AP1s. I saw them but didn’t like the “look”. For me these felt long. I know they have some strong lofts but with a 75mph swing speed I was carrying around 165 with the 7iron. I’ll take on on a course. My flight trajectory was something I liked as well. The fitted still recommended the stiff shaft because my tempo is fast. I almost hit 0 slices. 9/10 shots were draws. For an “average golfer” I would take that type of trajectory any day!

 

Again, I feel like the best thing to do is just go out and there hit them. Even if indoors. I’ll take them to the range this weekend if weather is decent and compare them to my old mizunos. I hit the AP2s in the same shaft and got better performance with the AP3s...for me and my swing. When I really concentrated on my swing and proper technique going through the ball I got excellent results. With the fitter in front of me I hit a great strike, tad off center, and carried around 175. That’s long (for me).

 

I really wanted the AP2s, but I’m just not good enough for them yet. So I swallowed my pride and got ones that were for me.

What did you transition from, if I may ask?

That’s problem with game improvement irons. Hit most of them 165 yards and then boom air mail!!!! 175 yards. Undoubtably it happens on the hole where the green is surrounded by woods and you take a penalty stroke. No thanks!

710 AP2’s.

Good to know. If I hit my 7iron 19 times out of 20 with the same carry and same good trajectory, maybe I’d think about stepping up to the AP2s. Until then, I’ll stick with the AP3s and take an occasional 175 carry....if it happens :)

 

Can’t wait to get them out onto the range and the course!!

I got fit this past weekend and it was down to the AP3s and JPX 900 Forged. Numbers were ever so slightly better with the JPX 900s so I ended up going with them, but I really did like the AP3s. They were a close 2nd.

Hard to beat the feel of a forged club. Age is catching up with me and the AP3 could not be denied in helping me with distance and forgiveness.

It’s funny. I have a 6iron in the JPX 900 forged that I was trying late last year. I will compare it against the new AP3 6iron on the range.

I hit the AP3's with the TT AMT 105 Black S300 shafts at the golf show on Saturday....they felt great for a cast club with a Japanese steel welded face...lots of forgiveness for amateur golfers.

They also looked great...think top line.

They will play long because the 7 iron loft is close to the loft of a traditional 6 iron.

 

Cannibalization....taking market share from the AP1's I'd imagine.

I too was down to the JPX 900 forged and AP3s! I found my bad shots on the JPX were a little better but I loved the looks so much better on the AP3s. I was hitting them around the same distance with the 7 iron 160-170 yards on the fly. But I could not get my mind off the AP3s and the looks and feel so I went with the AP3s.
