Callaway Rogue Sub Zero Fade Bias

I don't find it fade bias at all. In fact, I think it sits dead square and is very easy to draw. I actually turned mine to -1 loft so the face would be slightly open...

I feel like they flop open because of their sole. Like Ping Drivers. On the golf course, on grass they don't set like that.

exactly! on my floor at home it flops open... in the grass it sits square.

I've hit mine 10 times and every shot has a been a toe hook. I would say it was me, but I pick up my G400 right after and stripe it so the Rogue isn't lasting long with me.

I've got a G400 and I'm looking to out together the same bag battle (Rogue SZ. Are you seeing a significant drop off in distance of the toe?

If you compare the two heads (Rogue and Rogue SZ) you will find that the geometry of the SZ head is such that more weight is placed at the toe hence more fade bias even if it doesn't sit open. But you have to remember that a clubhead that produces that low spin wil never curve as much as a clubhead that will produce more spin. Dependant of strike of course.

I did not find the driver I tested during the fitting, to be draw bias or fade bias at all.

I got the chance to hit 50+ drives and I was able to move the ball slightly in both directions without much effort. In fact I found the club to be so predictable and forgiving that I ended up ordering one...

Have a great game.

  • 1 year later...

Sorry to bring back an old thread. Just curious if there is any more input on rogue sub zero being fade bias. So my natural shot shape with driver is a fade. I tested out the standard rogue and just never could get comfortable with the closed face and the huge shape of the head. Hitting lots of hooks and pulls. So that got me thinking I want to test the rogue sub zero next. Im kinda scared of it being fade bias, does that mean my baby fades will become slices? Also can you offset the open face simply by lofting up 1 degree?

By the way im currently gaming the standard epic and never really loved it. I have my days where it's great but overall one of the most unforgiving drivers ive hit. And just want to see if the rogue is more forgiving.

About me im about 105 mph swing speed and spin is pretty high in 2800-3000 range with epic.

Thanks for any input i know its kinda long winded.

All i know for sure is there usually is a difference in lie angle. Callaway Rogue sz is supposed to have lie angle of 55-56 degrees, TaylorMade M3 lie angle between 59-60 degrees. The M3 with the moveable weights you can favor a draw or a fade easier. With Rogue sz on standard/neutral setting i hit straight ball unless heel strike(fade) or toe strike (more draw/hook). The epic sz was a bit more draw biased for me compared to rogue sz.

thanks guys im heading up to the golf shop to test the rogue sub zero out today. im going to tinker around with the different settings as well and see if it I like it. Callaway preowned is basically giving these away lately and they have good trades on epic. I just need to get out of the epic!! lets see if the dispersion is better!

I had a rogue sub zero and it was very neutral shape but very low piercing ball flight. When struck right I got massive distance but it was the least forgiving of the drivers I owned last year. I’m probably in the minority but I absolutely hate the thud/dead sound. I couldn’t tell the difference from when I bombed it or snapped hooked it. It’s a gorgeous club though and if you nail it, you nail it.

Just scooped one off CPO for a great deal, and wanted a low spin deep alternative to my max (which isn’t going anywhere). Question about the optifit hosel- it has loft and lie adjustments. Does that mean that the lie adjustment negates the natural effect of the face opening with reducing loft, and it closing with increasing loft? So for a natural loft 9 degree head at -1 loft but neutral lie angle, does that mean the face actually doesn’t open up a bit?

I tested the rogue subzero head last night at an outdoor range. It has a much more compact look than the standard rogue. Keep in mind my testing is without trackman. But the sz def feels more square at address compared to the standard rogue. I set it at 10 degrees neutral and it feels great and looks great. The heavy weight was forward. My swing is kind of a mess right now but the biggest thing i noticed about the subzero is when struck between the screws it felt more hot coming off the face with less spin and a better trajectory compared to the standard.

I think the standard rogue is a good driver just the size and closed bias mess with my head. So I just pulled the trigger on a SZ. Fingers cossed!

Who soles a driver, or clearly some do, so change that to why sole a driver?

I assume the heavy weight forward is the lower spin setting, correct?
