If you were given the choice, or privilege, to be a professional golfer achieving Tiger's career/success or Phil's career /success, who's would you choose? or another golfer? Please explain.

Love the game but would never want to play as a professional.

Don't like the spotlight, so I would prefer a more anonymous tour player's career. Pile up a ton of money without the media pressure and so forth.

Since both of those guys live every moment in the spotlight I guess it comes down to results and earnings. Let's check the ol' "blind resume" - even thought it is obvious who is who:

 

- 14 majors, 79 career PGA Tour wins, $110,272,497 on-course earnings, 186 top-10 finishes in 331 events

or

- 5 majors, 43 career PGA Tour wins, $86,737,134 on-course earnings, 192 top-10 finishes in 578 events

 

 

I might actually like Jordan Speith's career

- 3 Majors, 11 Career PGA Tour wins, $35,871,665 on-course earnings, 54 top-10 finishes in 133 events - all at the age of 24. Maybe chase one more major (I know, easier said than done), go out on top, pretty universally well-liked, with more money than any guy in their mid-20's should really have, live off the name and accomplishments...

If I have to choose between Tiger and Phil, I choose Tiger. If I get to choose anyone I would choose a guy like Bill Haas for my sanity. Still more money than you know what to do with but if you get on a plane the only people that will know who you are will be the golf fans that watch every week.

I would not trade places with Bill Haas right now. He was in a car crash recently where the driver died. Driver was a member of the family hosting Haas for a golf tournament. Very sad situation. Haas was lucky to get out alive, but I'm sure he will have a lot of survivor's guilt moving forward.

Sticking to the script it’s a no brainer... tiger wins by a mile when it comes to golfing achievements.

 

The other stuff mentioned changes things for sure, but for pure golf... Tiger, easy.

Neither. That level of fame and fortune comes with a price I'm not willing to pay. I like being able to go to a restaurant and eat a meal without being mobbed by autograph hounds. Mind you, being a WRXer, I do have my share of autograph seekers, as most of us do, but it's not on their level.

 

Factor in the time away from home above and beyond that required for tournaments (business ventures, sponsor events, etc), and I couldn't justify it. Wouldn't mind being a mid level pro, if at all.

If we are talking about all the things that go along with it., I'd have to say this guy. Prolly chills in some type of ranch house in Argentina eating steaks and drinking big vino. Lot's of babes in Argentina too. Then go out and win 2 majors, total "gun".

I think that was my intention, not just the golf success, but the entire lifestyle of the particular golfer. It would be nice to just take the good, but insert yourself into the entire lifestyle of the golfer.

Of the choices, I would take Tiger's. Given the choice of any pro, I would take Arnold Palmer or Ben Hogan's careers.

Of those 2, I would take Phil. But personally, I would take #75 in the world ( don't know who that is right now ), can go to dinner peacefully and live a somewhat normal life, more money than I could ever spend without the media bothering the hell out of me everyday. That's the guy who has it all.

Without a second major, that's essentially DLIII's career or Freddie Couples. Hard to hide with a career like that. 15 years on tour and you are a mainstay.
