Mack Daddy 3 or Mack Daddy Forged

I am looking at replacing my worn Mack Daddy 2 wedges and admittedly haven't really kept up with new equipment. My current bag is still the Raxr Fit Xtreme woods and Apex irons. I can pick up either MD3 or MD Forged wedges for about the same price from Calloway Pre-owned. But I'm looking for recommendations. Aside from the MDF having the R grinds, is there really much difference in the two?

MDF are THE best wedges out there. I would still be playing if it weren’t that I went all TM in my bag. Yes, MDF all day, every day over MD3. I played both the the Forged are just perform and feel so good.

Agree w/ Osprey - Mack Daddy Forged is the best wedge I've played since SM4.

If you can handle the "Ryo Grind" which has a little low spot in the middle of the very square leading edge, then you'll love the Mack Daddy Forged like no other wedge. It's a wonderful precision tool.

 

If you have any tendency at all to inadvertently snag the leading in the turf, do NOT get the Mack Daddy Forged.

 

P.S. That R-grind is also IMO quite awesome out of a variety of bunker conditions.

IMO, the 2 best wedges to come out in the previous couple of production cycles have been the Mack daddy forged and j15. Mack daddy forged felt effortless to control distance, as long as you are comfortable with the grind. Felt really good and had great feedback. You can feel where the ball hits the face.

MDF are very square with a very versatile grind and are pretty sweet, if the grinds works for you.

I struggled with my wedge game coming back to golf last year. So, trying to buy a wedge game :-) I have on hand 3 Vokeys, 2 MD3's, 1 MD forged, and 2 MD PM grinds. I am very much a fan of smaller forged irons, but I honestly could not detect any difference in feel between the MD3 and the MD forged. That is no real help to you but I think the bounce and grind should be your deciding factor. At least, don't make your choice thinking "feel" will be drastically different between the cast and forged club.

I will say the MD3 in the W grind is the easiest club to use out of the sand I have ever hit.

Having said that, my wedge game seems to be coming around having settled with the PM in 60, and 56 and with the Vokey S at 50 degrees.

Seems like the consensus agrees here. MD Forged

I have the MD2 56 and MDF 60 for the last year. Just added the MDF 56 because of the superior performance of the R grind in both bunkers and tight lies. The feel is similar and spins jumped a little over the best I'd get with the MD2.
