Its prime for Phil.

Speeph got the yips. JT is a head case and Phil already kicked his butt. DJ might just wander off one day after some colorful birds and we never see him again

Whos left?

Rahm. Guy will look like Ralph Kramden in 3 years.

Rory. Cough, whipped, cough. Wooh-Pshhhhh.

I be surprised if Phil doesnt get fiddy wins.

But what about Tiger?

TW and PM are friends now

So TW will let Phil win a few ; )

Now THATS funny ! Best of the week !

Phil is a confidence first type player. He feeds off the fans and feeds off of wins. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wins 2-3 times this year. This win will give him room to breathe as it was weighing on him. He had doubts for sure. Similar to federer breaking through last year at the Aussie open it gave him the confidence to pick up another major later in the year and another one this year. Until you do it again you have doubts. Tiger has doubts too.he hasn’t contended yet and we’ll see if and when he does how he handles it. I took Phil at his word last fall when he said he fixed his meds and felt better and had more energy to practice and here we are 6 months later and he’s a borderline top 3 player on tour right now. I doubt he falls off just like that. He’s worked too hard.

50 wins is quite a stretch goal, after such a long dry spell.

However.... he is looking pretty good so far this year.

If you're right and he's really fixed his meds so he is in better shape physically, then it just might be possible. Nagging aches and pains and injuries and other health issues can really get in the way.

He's probably got a window of up to 5 years to get it done.

I don't see him (or Tiger) wasting their time on the Senior Tour. They don't need the money, and a bunch of trophies and "wins" for beating old guys? Nah. Not after 30 years of beating the best in the world. Might as well see if they could pick up some Web.com wins.

do you guys not really think Phil can't get another win this year and then one a year for a handful more years? He's set a smart goal

He seems to know his long game better than ever and he's tops in the world in short game and irons

He's had 6 runner ups in the US Open, if he gets just 1 more win I hope it is at Shinnecock this year or Pebble next year. He's good at Pebble and Goosen got hot for 9 holes with his better at Shinny

I get the impression there is a lot of energy in Phil's camp to win the US OPEN this year. Another Masters would be nice but he wants the golden ticket - our country's trophy. Predictions are not my thing clearly, but there is no reason why he can't contend if he finds a way to get out of his own way.

I am not a huge Phil fan but I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy watching him play. His style of play, attitude, fan interaction and general personality are all top notch to me. I hope he reaches his goal and hope he plays at a high level for years to ocme. Like him or not, golf is more exciting with him involved.

Phil is a confidence first type player. He feeds off the fans and feeds off of wins. I wouldn't be surprised if he wins 2-3 times this year.

So why did it take PM 4 1/2+ years and 100 events to win again after winning the Scottish and British Open back to back in 2013?

I attribute this to randomness. For example, he shot 17-under at Troon, which would've won or tied all but three Opens since World War II. Henrik just happened to put up an all-time round. Stated another way, the odds of a player going into the final round trailing by one, shooting a bogey-free 65, and not win (and have their deficit increase) are extremely high. He also got nipped by Rory at the 2014 PGA and tied for second at the 2015 Masters. And those are just the majors.

I think it's overly simplistic to just cite that he hadn't won in over four years, similar to looking at a pitcher's win-loss record and drawing a conclusion without looking at the peripherals. Here are Phil's finishes in strokes gained total since 2014: 27, 40, 8, and 17. Winning on tour is just plain hard.

Do I hope he gets to 50 wins? Absolutely. Do I think he will? Maybe. I expect him to contend at another couple of Masters at minimum before he retires.

Of course, I'll happily settle for just one more win if it's the U.S. Open.

Phil said he would win 50 times in his PGA Tour career when all is said and done. That's another 7 wins. Do you think he can do it?

I say he has no chance. There is a good chance he never wins again, maybe 1 tournament..

One could argue Phil should have 2 or 3 more victories THIS season.

If he puts his ball in the fairway, he's as good as there is on the PGA Tour. Its all about the driver for him. He'll contend wherever he drives it well.

Man, you are striping it today Basic! All that work you've done in your off-season posting is really starting to pay off! ; )

Personally I'd say it's slightly less than 50-50 that FIGJAM gets to 50.

And anyway, the real question we should be talking about here is does Tiger get to 80? Someone should start a thread about that.......

I'd love to see him win a US Open like many here and I'm sure Phil himself. I feel like, much like Fred Couples, we will see him on the first page of the Masters Leaderboard for many years to come. Getting 7 more wins however, I don't see it happening for Phil. Yes, he is the 2nd best player of his generation but there are some really talented players out there that didn't win much who are older than him.

I could see him winning at 51 like DL3 did a few years back.

Here's a nice article from the other day about the oldest players in the last 18 years that won after Phil's age: https://www.pga.com/news/golf-buzz/oldest-winners-pga-tour

Interesting article. 9 winners older than Phil since 2000, 5 of them in fringy "4A" events like Wyndham and Mayakoba.

Makes one appreciate how impressive it was when Fred Funk won the Players at 48.

Passing Walter Hagen on the all-time PGA Tour win list with 46 wins (3 more) is more achievable.

Yes getting to 46 is more achievable than 50.

Agreed, especially when you consider that Funk was one of the shortest guys out there.

Multitude of factors. He could of had 3 majors in that time. His health wasn’t great and he went through some swing changes but still threatened to win. Off the top of my head he could easily have 7-8 wins in that time frame but the rise of some players (Rory,Spieth, day, Johnson, Thomas) simply beat him to it. It happens to everybody as it did to tiger. Difference is that since 2010 Phil has been in the mix at majors way more than tiger. Since tigers last major Phil has 2 majors and should have been 3 or 4 to tigers 0. That’s why I’m more bullish on Phil’s chances. When he gets on he can still win a major.
