Bandon Lodging Thread

My personal favorite place to stay is The Inn. I have stayed at the Lily Pond and Chrome Lake before also, and have no complaints. One trip, my playing partner and I got bumped to a 2BR at Chrome Lake and that was terrific, though I'm not sure it would have been worth the extra cost if we'd had to pay for the upgrade. From reading the thread, I think I will need to try the Lodge next time I'm there.

I've been to Bandon several times now, and I'm rarely ever in the room. It's usually golf all day while it's light outside, and then go straight to dinner/drinks. I always bring a change of clothes for the evenings and rarely use them. I find I'm just wiped out at the end of the day and just want something to eat and some cold beers, and let's do it again tomorrow. The rooms at The Inn are spartan, but I don't need anything more than that. Also the bathrooms/showers everywhere I've stayed on the property have been terrific, and The Inn was no different.

The bar at The Inn is underrated. Prior to staying there, I had no idea it existed. It's clean, quiet, friendly, and the bartender can order food from the restaurant for you and bring it over. Very relaxing after golfing 36 or more all day.

WHAT, the food thing, mind blown. I love the The Inn too.

The books and memorabilia in the bar at the Inn are a nice touch.

I like the Inn, it's the only place on property I've stayed. Good to know there's a shower in the lobby at the Inn and you can use the locker room in the Lodge.

We've stayed off property in an amazing golf house, but you need a connection to get a tee time for anything more than a single these days.

Keiser has been trying to get approval to tear down and replace a hotel in town. Haven't heard anything about the Sheeps Ranch remodel, guess they'll need more lodging when they get that course on line.

For those of you who have stayed off site, especially in the winter season where the days are short, did you have trouble securing tee times? Considering you can’t make tee times outside of 21 days. I bring a group of 12-16 every winter and would love to stay at a house offsite, but staying on site, I can book tee times a year in advance. Offsite restriction would pretty much assure we wouldn’t get tee times together or even be able to finish our rounds because of darkness. Thoughts or suggestions?

A buddy and I made a last minute trip there last week. We were only able to get one tee time a day (Fri/Sat) and both were after noon (12:10 and 12:20). We stayed off property at the Bandon Inn (decent place at $110/night split between two of us). We made those tee times Weds morning.

I’m not positive since I’ve never done it, but I’ve either heard or read that they’ll let you book large groups in advance with off site lodging, but you have to pay all tee times in advance. It’s not refundable like normal bookings with a month cancellation, so could be a significant commitment. I’d just call reservations and ask.

You might be able to leverage a group that big, but generally YES, you have it right.

Of course you can always get on as a single, but we drive over a few times a year for a round or two and it can be tough during the winter to get a twosome on with a "guaranteed to finish time." And, that late in the day, when pace grinds down you won't finish sometimes.

We took a later time thinking we'd make it last winter on Pac Dunes, pace was ridiculously slow and we walked in the pitch black from the 17th green.

Yes. The 12:20 time would have been pushing it if there had been any slow up at all. I personally wouldn't book later than that time (in December, obviously).

On the first day at 12:10 they said there were 6 groups going out behind us. I can pretty much guarantee 4 of those groups didn't finish.

Anyone ever stayed in the Lodge or Golf Suites? When you look at the lodging from the 18th there are 2 balconies- a massive round one toward the middle and a smaller one off on the right side of the building (I guess that would make it South). Can't find anything online about which of the two options has the larger balcony. I'm betting it's the Golf Suite, but hoping someone can confirm.

@kaschreiber - You are correct, it is the golf suite. Two beds upstairs and two beds downstairs with the sitting room in between. Being Nov we only used the deck once to have a beer and watch golfers coming in, it is big, can easily handle a big group. It's above the Gallery but we didn't hear any noise coming from it.

Funnily enough since we were there during the crazy hail/thunderstorms, the downstairs doors to the balcony blew open and they had to have the repair guys bye to fix them. That said, we liked the set up so much for 4 guys we booked it again this coming Nov.

@Roadking2003 have you looked into this location yet? Doesn't have the 8 rooms you are looking for. But may be large enough?

We almost went this route with our 12 man trip. The guy that I was talking to (believe his name was Jim) was really responsive and really helpful. We ultimately opted to stay on the resort as it would be a wash with the savings on lodging versus golf and we're staying in the lodge. We can more or less drunkenly roll to our rooms as opposed to having to count on someone to drive us, even if it is only a mile. In talking to him he mentioned that they can "almost guarantee" onsite rates, but couldn't put that in writing, so we didn't feel comfortable taking that chance.

Bandon is not a big town, nor is it a big tourist destination (other than the resort). You probably won't find many houses that large there (as opposed to Lincoln City or Seaside farther north). You might be better off renting two houses if you don't want to stay onsite.

Depending on the time of year you're going, the difference in greens fees may eat up any savings you get by staying off-site.

Thanks. We would need two houses like that one. Our group doesn't share bedrooms or bathrooms. We're a bunch of old retired guys.

So we can find two four-bedoom houses, but then we have to pay $100 extra green fees per day.

Peak season green fees;

Resort guest $285

21-day non-resort guest; $335

Advanced non-resort guest; $385

If you are putting an eight-man trip together, you can't wait until 21 days out to see if you can get tee times. So the advance reservation is a requirement in my book.

My point exactly. You're spending an extra $100 per player, per round, per day by staying off-site. Even if you're only playing one round a day, that's $800 per day that you'd have to be saving in order just to break even. Replays would add even more to the differential. Then you have to manage the whole rental thing, cleaning deposits and chores, plus transportation to the resort, yada, yada... I get the desire to have everyone in a big house, but seems like a ton more stuff to manage.

But I'm lazy, so there's that...

I've done a few trips where we stayed in a large rental. It's not just the savings. It's nice to have a private gathering place in the evenings where we can drink and smoke a cigar. I also like to eat a light breakfast in the house.

But, Bandon Resort clearly does not want golfers to stay offsite.

^Get the golf suite, that's four of you and then get 4 golf/forest singles and you're sorted.

We stayed at "The Mill Casino" in North Bend, on Coos Bay during a business trip with the ko-kwel tribe. I'm not much of a casino guy but the place was popping with entertainment. Parking lot was full every night sat-friday. Drive to Bandon took about a half hour. Standard rooms were fantastic and below per diem rates. I recommend the place.

@payerasjl Looking for one night off the resort? If so, the Bandon Inn is perfect. We stayed there this last November on our arrival night because The resort didn’t have room. Was something like $60 for two queen beds. Clean room with everything we needed for eight hours we slept in it.

Just about ten-fifteen minute drive to the first tee at Bandon.

Yup, that’s what I’m looking for. Probably drive to the resort from PDX, play some preserve and head to town for that first night before we officially start the time at Bandon.
