My buddy and I are going to be in one of the lofts for the Solstice event in June.  It'll be my first time at Chrome Lake and I'm really looking forward to checking it out.

i’ve stayed in the twice and to me it kind of has a different feel. Best way I could describe it is the Inn and Lodge make you feel like you are at a golf resort, Chrome Lake made me feel like I was on a buddies golf trip, if that makes sense. Not sure if one is better than the other, just different.

Bandon just announced restaurants are closed all of February as well.  Does it make sense at this point to rent a house offsite for 4 guys rather than having two forest doubles?

We're in the same boat.  Can you keep your tee times?  If so, I'd definitely consider it.  February weather and lack of daylight could make hanging out outside a bit dodgy, and I don't recall there being too much covered outdoor space anywhere on property that wouldn't be "closed".

Just checked their site.

Nothing has changed - restaurant eating spaces are (still) closed, but they are still doing to-go/delivery services.  I don't see a reason not to stay on site and eat in your room.

What about hanging on the beach? I've seen cars down there, and believe there's access from the north.  Anyone drive down there?

In Feb? Bring the 1/2 tents and hope it doesn't rain.

We always laugh at the lazy guys talking their dogs for walks - they are in their OTT 4x4s while the dogs run alongside.

Duf, we were the lucky few who caught the 3 good days in that crazy February a few years ago.  We can dream!

Has anyone stayed at Quality Inn in Coos Bay as part of their Bandon trip? Going to end of April and thinking about booking it for last night before driving to Eugene in the morning. Itinerary is shaping up like this:

Wed - EUG afternoon arrival. Stay at Bandon Inn

Thur - 36 holes. Stay at Lily Pond

Fri - 36 holes. Stay at Lily Pond

Sat - 36 holes. Stay at Quality Inn Coos Bay.

Sun - morning drive to EUG for midday flight

6th trip, and my buddies and I have started to plan these trips as economically as possible, treating it like an every year trip almost. This itinerary allows us to get 6 rounds of golf (3 at replay rates), which has felt just right for us. And we can do 2 nights on property when you clearly benefit from being there, and 2 nights off property at much cheaper rates when you don't really need to stay at the resort.

The last night we think Coos Bay will be optimal to get a head start on the drive back to EUG and all we really care about at that point is comfortable beds and clean rooms. Seems like it's Best Western or Quality Inn from what I can see online, but Quality Inn is $50 cheaper. I don't want to go cheaper if it means terrible rooms. I tried that one year by doing a late arrival night at Motel 6 Coos Bay and the bed/room was terrible.

Anyone with experience?

I now use a nearly identical itinerary to keep costs down, 1 night at Bandon Inn before arrival and Coos Bay on departure, maximizes number of rounds at replay rate with minimal lodging costs.  Stayed 1 time at Quality Inn and it was decent (think 2 star) but last couple trips I used the Red Lion which I felt was better (still a big step down from Bandon Inn).  If you don't mind driving a little further, the Best Western in Reedsport is better than most options in Coos Bay.

You had me at "casino". Looks like it's $180 all in for a two-bed vs. $140ish for Quality or Red Lion. Sounds reasonable for better rooms, more security. This wasn't showing up on hotels.com since you can only book direct.

I mean if I win at the tables it's a free room, if I lose it's entertainment. win-win.

appreciate the suggestions.

Another question.  I stayed at the Inn my only time I’ve been to Bandon.  It was nice to be close to the main clubhouse and it was an easy walk from the inn.

We’re booking another trip and trying to decide between the inn or chrome lake.  I understand that chrome lake rooms are a little bigger but the inn seems to be the better location.  And at the inn half of our group will get the golf view room but the other half will not.  Thoughts?

I've never cared too much about location or view, but then again we're trying to play 36 in November so we're not really seeing the views in daylight and the shuttles are convenient enough. I will say for chrome lake the soaker tub, heat lamps in the bathroom, and fire place are quite nice if it's a little wet or chilly. Also love how the toilet and shower are in different rooms so if you're sharing a room its easy to get ready.

If you're going as a 4-some or 2-some, I think the answer depends on whether you have a car or not (I'm in the camp of having a car is so much more convenient than shuttling everywhere - keeping stuff in your car for between round changes, not waiting 5 min for each shuttle pickup which adds up for a full day). If you have a car, none of them matter from a location standpoint from my perspective - it's just a one min drive and no wait. If you don't, I don't think many people will want to make the walk from Chrome Lake to the main lodge on a regular basis. Lily Pond is a much better shorter walk (just a walk across the street from Inn).

For a 2-man room, ignoring location and only considering bang for the buck, I'd rank Chrome Lake my favorite among the options. (I haven't stayed at Round Lake, but I don't know why I'd pay extra for basically a more modern hotel when I'm not in the room that much and Chrome/Lilly are plenty clean/spacious for me.) I think Lilly Pond is actually a bit larger from sqft perspective, but Chrome double feels larger because Lilly is narrow/longer. Plus Chrome has king beds, which is nice. I've stayed at the Inn double and thought it was tight - although we don't spend much time in the room other than sleeping and 1-2 hours before that to wind down, I like having space for all our crap, esp. if it rains and you need space to dry stuff out, I like having 2 bathrooms, and I like having extra room and sitting space so the other 2-some can come in and we can hang out for a bit at times. The $20-30 per night per person discount at Inn double doesn't seem like it's enough to me to give that up. I think Chrome Double and Lilly Pond are pretty equivalent though and am happy with either. If I didn't have a car, i'd pick Lilly, but with car I pick Chrome.

As a regular Inn guest, and having stayed in all but the Lodge over the years, I can speak to what the Inn offers with some detail.

Group size definitely plays a role in where you stay. The Inn, especially first floor golf view, allows for everyone to open their sliding doors and hang out on the lawn. There were absolutely a couple of wedge shots on to #18.

Also, The Library was utilized a lot. Each trip there have been different rules there, from open access and no staff to a bartender and no outside alcohol allowed. Either way, it is a good spot to hang as a group. We have even found ourselves using the lobby area as a meeting point to sit together.

It is also right there for The Preserve and Trails. And if you don’t mind a little walk through Cut Creek, you can be at the Lodge in a few minutes.

The rooms however are basic and the closet/storage space sucks. It gets tight around the bed next to the closet because the only storage shelves are in that corner of the room.  The sinks are separate from the shower/toilet, so two people can get ready at the same time.

Heading down for the 3rd time in late May.  The first trip I was solo and stayed at the Inn.  Good room, good proximity, library bar was convenient.

The 2nd time down I went with a buddy, we drove in (stayed at the Bandon Inn the night prior) and then spent two nights in an upper loft at Chrome Lake.  Really enjoyed the loft, a bedroom and bathroom on either side of the common area (tv, couches, chairs, table, bar, etc).  As has been mentioned, Bandon is really its own ecosystem - once you arrive on property, there really isn’t a need for a car, shuttles are very convenient and can take you everywhere.

For the trip in May, we’ll be at Chrome Lake again for 4 nights.  I think it’s a great setup for either a twosome or foursome (with both floors)
