That's remarkable. I wonder how healthy the course is overall today compared to last year's tournament?

I've being going to the tournament and playing there for almost 10 years now, course is always in pristine shape before and during the tournament as they overseeding the heck out of the course. Fairways and first cuts are very Augusta like, green may be a bit slower this time around simply because we've been getting a lot of rain lately. Planning on play there next week during the Masters week under tournament condition with grandstands and everything. :)

That sounds awesome. Would you like me to show up to bababooey you in your backswing?

I'll be at the tournament Saturday, and plan to play the course in May. I've never played there, and I'm looking forward to it. It is a truly underrated tournament, as pcs11 stated, probably because some view it as an almost opposite field tournament due to the pending Masters.

Was holding out hope earlier this year that Tiger might make an appearance since he needed tournament reps. He hasn't played in Houston since the TPC in '99.

I believe he played at Champions in 2003 for the Tour Championship.

If the Houston Open moves to a different course, I wonder where they might go. Champions again? If they want to get Tiger, the best way to do it would be move the tournament to his course in Montgomery County. Not sure the place could handle the crowds though.

If Houston Open moves to a different course I'd hope it's Bluejack National, since that's probably the only way I can ever set foot on that course. lol

you'll enjoy it a lot, very playable course and not overly difficult, first time I played there I shot 37 on the front, but lets not talk about back 9!! lol

March, April and May are probably the best time to play there from my experience, overseeing starts to die off as the temperature rises during Houston's summer heat.

I played there recently and that course wasn't designed to host a tournament. It would not be much of a test for the best players in the world and there isn't the space to handle the crowds very well, etc.

You are correct. I remember '99 because Tiger won, and that's the only time I've seen him play in person. Also, it was right after Payne Stewart died.

The LPGA is holding the Women's Open at Champions in 2020. Looking forward to that - I've never been to an LPGA tournament.

Agree with that no way it can handle the crowds, parking, and not to mention it is way the hell up there.

Other than Champions and GCoH, do any of you know of a course in the greater Houston area that could handle the size and logistics of a tour crowd, and provide a test for the tour pros? It's kind of funny to think Quail Valley hosted an Open many years ago.

Oh, and off topic, RIP Glenbrook.

I've only played it during the summer and it's a completely different course, it's all overseeded so they can mimic Augusta as best they can. I'd love to play it how they have it set up for the SHO, always gets rave reviews about how smooth the greens are.

I've always thought this course is stunning on TV. Looks like quite a track.

I agree. I always love to look at this course on TV. It's beautiful. Hopefully they recovered from the hurricane and it still looks beautiful.

Last time I played it was in October (so just two months after Harvey) and it was amazing the shape they already had the course in. It was really just the bunkers that were still messed up. Going out and playing it in about a week which is an annual tradition for me and a couple buddies.

Thats pretty cool. Too bad you can't play it like a day or two after so you can get real tournament conditions. I'm sure it's still pretty close!

According to the Strength of Field formula for the OWGR, this is the worst field in Houston in a decade. I don't see it myself, but........math!

Stricker to win and go to Augusta.

you're not kidding -- this field is (at face value) pretty deep.

Where do you find the Strength of Field for each tournament?

The OWGR website usually sets a field strength number before the tourney starts to set the weight they put on the tourney for OWGR points.
