I've always thought this course is stunning on TV. Looks like quite a track.

I agree. I always love to look at this course on TV. It's beautiful. Hopefully they recovered from the hurricane and it still looks beautiful.

Last time I played it was in October (so just two months after Harvey) and it was amazing the shape they already had the course in. It was really just the bunkers that were still messed up. Going out and playing it in about a week which is an annual tradition for me and a couple buddies.

Thats pretty cool. Too bad you can't play it like a day or two after so you can get real tournament conditions. I'm sure it's still pretty close!

Yes, we are playing the Wed. after the tournament so imagine the conditions will be pretty similar. Other than not being cheap it is always pretty easy to get tee times after the tournament. I just looked and there are quite a few still available on Wed. and Thursday next week.

It's good to see that the course is back to its pristine condition.

During Harvey 1st tee box

Today 1st tee box from WRX

That's remarkable. I wonder how healthy the course is overall today compared to last year's tournament?

I've being going to the tournament and playing there for almost 10 years now, course is always in pristine shape before and during the tournament as they overseeding the heck out of the course. Fairways and first cuts are very Augusta like, green may be a bit slower this time around simply because we've been getting a lot of rain lately. Planning on play there next week during the Masters week under tournament condition with grandstands and everything. :)

I hope that Houston rain calms down soon. I'm headed into town to play the Carlton Woods Invitational the first week of May and this Vegas boy hates playing in the rain. Do your dry weather dance for me please!

It hasn’t rained much (if at all) this past month. Unfortunately we are supposed to get hammered the next 48 hours but we need the rain. Friday and the weekend should be perfect weather.

Here is to hoping that the tournament experiences no delays. No one likes a Monday finish the week before the Masters.

base on the weather forecast, I don't see any reason for a Monday finish. Unless of course we get hit by 10" of rain tomorrow, and/or severe storm damage to the course.

I’m a bit surprised that Suri had to Monday qualify http://golfweek.com/2018/03/27/julian-suri-wins-monday-qualifier-for-houston-open/

Also glad to see Ryan Baca qualify.

Has no status. Only way into events is sponsors invite or to qualify

Interesting -guess I didn’t realize that. Figured if you are good enough for the WGC events you should be good enough for the regular tour events. I really enjoyed watching him play last week in Austin.

I think he’s definitely good enough. But still need a PGA Tour card. Will hopefully have one by the end of the year

Suri obviously is good enough but outside of the WGC's/Majors which he qualifies for based on his world ranking he is not a PGA member so would need a sponsor exemption. Now that he is in this field could rip off a few top 10's and gain enough points like Rahm, Noren, Pieters and others have done to gain membership. Speaking of Noren I believe he Monday qualified a few years ago for the Honda which at the time was also on the schedule right after Match Play.

There’s a few events that invite players based on ranking. Honda, Bayhill, The Players, Memorial are all top 50 in OWGR get in. If he can get to top 50 in the OWGR I’d result in about 16 starts or so this year on the PGA Tour at minimum. If he got 269 fedex cup points he’d earn unlimited sponsors invites. 365 points would earn him a card for remainder of the year.

Discovered golf in 2010, first tournament I ever attended was the 2011 SHO - I volunteered and was on the roping crew. Phil won that year and we got to take a pic with him on the 18th green.

With the over seeding and the way they set up the course, it is amazing. I hope they are able to find a sponsor for next year - it would be pretty pathetic not having a PGA event in Houston.

This is a very underrated tournament. Here is a link to the field https://www.pgatour....open/field.html

Pulling for Sneds, as he needs a win to get into the Masters.

Followed the link to have a look at the field. It could well be the photographs but that sure is one ugly looking bunch. 90% of the field are so ugly they make Dufner look like a stud.

Despite this being no beauty pageant the field is definitely an interesting one.
