Man I wish I could have seen that. Shot tracker shows Phil got to play the ENTIRE 13th hole par 5, starting with a push left into the trash, then a pitch out from the junk, long iron into a fairway bunker, 70 yard bunker blast to the green and then a 26 foot made putt for a ho-hum par. Nuts.

Do I mix tournaments up, or didn't the Shell Houston Open used to be played on a course with a bunker on a late par three and a creek in the fairway on the 18th hole? If so, I preferred that course to this kind of lukewarm experience of a PGA Tour golf course.

It’s been played on several courses. Prior to the tournament course (where they’re playing now) at Golf Club of Houston (formerly Redstone), it was played on the members course. I believe the first year of the tourney course was 05 or 06. Before the members course it was played in the woodlands. Not sure when that changed as I didn’t start playing and paying attention to golf till 03.

Holy cow, +4.6 putting for Phil today combined with a not so steller -3.0 SG off the tee. I haven't watched much, has his driving been that erratic today and his putting that great just judging by the live video?

He's getting old and wants to move on. Doesn't think he has a replacement anywhere near as good as himself (shocker I know) so he won't retire. Has cut way back already though..

It's like he views everything in how it relates to the Champions Tour. Fowler pulled 3W for his second on one of the par 5's (13?) and Lehman says "he's just looking to get this in the right position for his 3rd. He probably can't reach this in 2."

I’m rooting for my buddy Shawn. He was in 1st at -9 earlier today, but fell back a stroke. He went out early and some folks passed him in the afternoon. He’s 3 off the lead going into the weekend.

 

A few years ago he set a record (at the SHO) for most total length in putts made at over 500’. I think it was a tour record since they started keeping the stat, not just for that tourney. He’s from this area so plays there a bit. Practices a lot at my home course as well. Super nice guy. Hasn’t won on tour but finished 2nd in a playoff at congressional a delete years ago, had a hole in one at the US open a few years ago, and had one last week in Puntacana.

This is Beau's second 36-hole lead in his first full year on TOUR, the other coming at Pebble Beach where he shot 74-76 over the weekend to finish t43. His final round scoring average this season is an atrocious 73.40 which ranks 188th on TOUR.

Most of that is due to Sunday blowups at two tournaments (Safeway and ATT Pebble Beach). Give the kid a break he is going to be a fixture on tour for many years. Very talented and a nice kid too. Hope he can pull it out this weekend.
