That chest pounding stuff by Poulter really makes me pull for Hossler. Leave that to the prima donnas of the NFL and NBA.

Posting as an American

Pls stop. He had to win. Not maybe. Not kinda. Had to. To win a golf tournament is hard but to win one that you have to win? That’s why we watch. What Ian did after sharting the bed Thursday is beyond what any of us clowns will ever do playing golf. Mad props to poulter. That was epic.

That’s a tremendous athletic feat. And his interview after was class.

Posting as someone who really doesn’t care where he’s from.

I don’t like the chest pounding. No matter what the circumstances, what he had to do or did do. It’s my opinion, I don’t like it.

Since it’s a board based on and formed by people offering their thoughts and opinions, no, I won’t stop. And I won’t ask someone else with a different opinion to do so either.

What's so bad about chest pounding? Every sport does it. I see it all of the time in soccer. Same in baseball. And, as you pointed out, the NFL and NBA.

The guy got excited, made a huge putt and was excited.

Please tell us what the appropriate reaction would had been? And what should NFL players do? You know, when they make a huge play (like causing a fumble, getting van interception, sacking the QB).

I made a simple statement, that the chest pounding made me pull for Hossler. I don’t like it, it’s just how I feel. In my post I also explained why, because it’s a “look at me, what I did” statement (at least that’s how I interpret it, which I also said). It’s also much more appropriate in team sports, where on almost every play, someone else also contributed in order to make the play possible. Rarely is there a true solo act. Hence my reason for not liking it. I also said it’s not applicable because in this case he (Poulter) did actually do it himself. So yes, he earned it.

I just don’t like it. My opinion. It doesn’t matter if anyone else shares it or not because it’s worth no more or less than anyone else’s. If others like it, that’s great too. We don’t all have to agree on everything.

As to the question how they should react. I like the guys who react low key and (again, my opinion) classy. The example I always have used (and probably always will) is Walter Payton. Make a play, hand the ball to the official, and head to the huddle or sideline. I’m pretty low key, it’s just what I like to see.

LOve the passion, guys display in different ways. Focus should be on how clutch this win was. His masters result is irrelevant. He secured his card in a time in which it’s harder than ever to do so, at 42. Either give him props or carry on...he’s been ripped on enough

The first post is my original one that started this. That’s ripping on him? And my only options are to give him props or carry on? Who put you in charge?

Walter Payton is the exception. This is the one sport where “look at me” actually means I did it.

Just want to know where you draw the line?

Tiger did it a bazillion times

Rory

Spieth

Actually DJ is quite calm but he’s dumber than a mud fence

Didn’t I say exactly that? That he actually did do it himself.

Walter may well be the exception. But in my opinion, he should be the rule. But please everyone, that’s just MY opinion.

Again, it’s my interpretation, the fist pumps are celebration motions while the chest thumping is a “it’s all me” move. Right or wrong, that’s what I see when I see them.

All of us parents would love our kids to “act like you’ve been there”

But Tigers popularity peaked before social media

IJP is a jackwagon sometimes on social media so he’s instantly scrutinized. Couple that with last week and the gaff of him thinking I’m in. Wait?!? I’m not ?!?

In a must win after an opening 73 with the media talking about it over and over and then rising then leading and then sleeping on the lead and then playing a flawless round (for a guy who puts the car in reverse a lot in stroke play events) save a 20 yard pitch on a par 5 only to make the 6th birdie of the day on the difficult 18th to force a playoff

The confluence of the perfect storm is getting buried beneath the fact most think he’s a douchenozzle. What he accomplished today is next to impossible in this day and age of social media and he being quite the villain. He RELISHES the moment. Few do nowadays

Yes you did. I misread. I’m 51 but this is up there with a lot great golf moments in my lifetime I’ve witnessed.

So. Many. People. Don’t give this guy any respect. He’s mediocre! He dresses like a prima Donna! Look at how many Ferraris he has and he never wins!

The dude can flat out get things done when they need to get done. He thought he was 50 last week, was taking this tourney off to go practice at Augusta, turned out he was 51... Crushing. Change of plans, have to fly to Houston and play and win to get in, hasn’t won in six years, shoots 73 day one and then goes -20 the rest of the way. That is SERIOUS and one of the most impressive things I’ve seen in the game in a long time.

That’s what’s so funny about all this. I really don’t even have an opinion on the guy. I’m basically indifferent to him. I didn’t like an action he made and so many people are taking it so personally.

Heck yes, I’m impressed as he!! that he could pull off a win in that situation. It is a pretty amazing story to HAVE to win, and then doing it.

I’m blaming you then Jay. You quoted the post that started this! You should have just left it be as the ramblings of a bitter, tired, crotchety old man! The kind everyone shakes their head at and then ignores!

Oh, and if I cared about it, I’d tell kids to get off my lawn!

Agreed, one of the best performances I have ever seen. Hope he wins the Green Jacket next week!

Agreed good for poulter. He tells it like he sees it and the chest pounding might be a look at me statement, also might be his way of celebrating the fact that it was one hell of a clutch putt and the culmination of a lot of hard work after injury, nearly losing his card and never really winning on the tour.

What a gutsy performance.

Well, that’s just clutch. I’ve never quite understood the hatred for Poulter. Yes, he doesn’t wear beige khakis, have a button down side parting, and doesn’t drive to events in his RV, but this guy is a working class hero, a guy who made it to the top 5 OWGR, won 2 WGC, and is better than Seve at the Ryder Cup. He also raises millions for disadvantaged kids. If he was one of ‘yours’ you’d love him as much as Sir Phil.

I hope he ends up paired with Tiger next week in the final few groups on Sunday, that will be epic!

lets slow down there...

Blasphemy.
