Can't stand the dude but that was one hell of a gutsy performance. That being said, to think that all of a sudden he is somehow going to win the Masters is crazy talk.

If you forget the circumstances for a minute it often seems to be form players who win the Masters. No better form than a really great show in the matchplay (he thought he'd done enough remember, so did what he had to do - who is to say that had the task been win the matchplay that he wouldn't have ?) then winning at Houston.

He will be about about on Sunday.

I'm not sure his game fits Augusta at all. Especially since there are other multiple winners of the Masters who's games are at a very high level right now. But if Willetts can win there I suppose anybody can.

Imagine getting offended at someone's celebration.

I mean, I could understand the offense if he had sunk the putt and proceeded to goose-step off the green with his arm outstretched. But this was just pure emotion and exhilaration.

Are golf fans really that sensitive these days?

He’s not a member of the UK shadow Cabinet, so that was unlikely to happen...

Props to Poulter. Clutch win. My Dad and I made our yearly trip to the tournament and spent some time behind that fairway bunker on 18 dodging mortar rounds from the golfers cheating right to avoid the water to the left. The tee shot on 18, and the following 200 y approach shot are every bit as intimidating as they appear on tv. I totally understand how Hossler ended up flaring his shot into the greenside bunker - that's a tough shot under playoff pressure for a young golfer. Hitting into the water from the bunker was regrettable - I expected him to come up well short - but both golfers grinded for 73 holes, and neither has anything to be ashamed of.

I'll be glued to my tv this weekend. Bring on the Masters!

That chest pounding stuff by Poulter really makes me pull for Hossler. Leave that to the prima donnas of the NFL and NBA.

Posting as an American

Pls stop. He had to win. Not maybe. Not kinda. Had to. To win a golf tournament is hard but to win one that you have to win? That’s why we watch. What Ian did after sharting the bed Thursday is beyond what any of us clowns will ever do playing golf. Mad props to poulter. That was epic.

That’s a tremendous athletic feat. And his interview after was class.

Posting as someone who really doesn’t care where he’s from.

I don’t like the chest pounding. No matter what the circumstances, what he had to do or did do. It’s my opinion, I don’t like it.

Since it’s a board based on and formed by people offering their thoughts and opinions, no, I won’t stop. And I won’t ask someone else with a different opinion to do so either.

Did you not like it when Michelle Wie did it?

I didn't see it. But most likely I would not have. Since I don't care for the action. Like I stated above.

I've never understood why people dislike Ian Poulter so much. The guy scratched & clawed his way to the PGA Tour and has had a helluva career for someone who started so far down the ladder. I've never seen him give an obnoxious interview and he seems to have a lot of time for his fans. I don't begrudge a man who has the money to buy toys and then buys toys. Have y'all seen how Kiradech Aphibarnrat lives? Dude's house and cars look like he's Jay-Z. I dig the way Poulter dresses, I like the way he plays and I like the way he handled his business yesterday. I wish he would whine less on twitter, but then again I wish everyone would whine less on twitter. As for the DB who lost his job after heckling Poulter and getting called out on it on social media, sucks for him but it's his fault.

Not sure there are many players that polarize opinion as much as Poults!

I, for my point of view, am delighted for him to get the win last night. I do feel sorry for Beau Hossler, he barely put a foot wrong the entire day and was so close to holing that putt on 18 in regulation. Poulter though, was exactly the same. One bogey and one missed green all day. He played unbelievably solid and showed huge guts to get the job done the way that he did. He could have easily packed his bags and come back to the Euro Tour after the struggles that he has had but he has stuck it out and deserves a huge amount of credit for that.

If someone like Phil or Tiger had been 123rd after the first day and went on to win it, it would be talked about at the end of the year as one of the performances of the year. As it was Poulter, it probably won't but it should be. Hopefully, this will be the start to a great spring and summer for him and he will be able to get back to doing what he does so well in September :)

Each to their own but out of interest, can you not stand him because of his huge amount of charity work? The fact he spanks america in Ryder Cups or because he got some arsehole sacked?

He doesnt have the natural golfing ability of most of his peers, that much is obvious but man, we need to give him respect for what he can do with what hes got.

You dont like Hossler bcause he blamed a bad shot on the wind? You sound entitled and douchy.

Hossler really came across as a Mommy's boy in some event on TV . .can't recall if it was the NCAA's or the US Am.

Granted he was young pup then

He does bear a striking action to Monte. Swing, build, walk. Surprised it took Miller so long to pinpoint that

I was glad to see Poulter win, if for no other reason than so many people don't like him. I do like him, for many of the same reasons some of you have said above - his making so much of his golf talent from an inauspicious start, his clutch performances when everything's on the line. His expression of gratitude to his wife was a nice touch.

Hossler reminded me of Judge Smayles' grandson Spaulding, sorry. For all the sniping by some golf forum folks at Phil's physique over the years, I should think young Beau also could stand some gym time.

I like Poulter. It's a true rags to riches story. He shows emotion, and it's not fake at all. I like it. Golf needs more guys like him.

I agree with this.

Leading, being overtaken late in the round, making birdie on the last to tie, then winning in the playoff......substitute Poulter with Woods or Mickelson, and that victory would have been declared an "epic" win, with Dan Hicks probably saying some corny line like "the best Houston Open ever".

I'm not a fan of chest thumping myself, but I'm giving the old guy a pass on this one, just because. It ain't easy being 42, playing against a bunch of guys in their 20s who can hit it 2 miles. He's had a rough time of it, and he prevailed.

Also, he handled the TV interview well after the win. I think he was close to tears when he started talking about his wife's support.

I've always kind of liked the guy myself.

FORE RIGHT!!!!

Was that a Poulter mic drop I head thud on the 18th? Poulter is proof being liked by 1 and all is not necessary. Desirable in an ideal world, but a sign of neediness.
