True Blue - Pawleys Island, SC

I played True Blue for the first time in a couple of years. It remains one of my favorite courses in MB because it's so different than anything else. The scale of the course is huge, wide fairways, gigantic bunkers and great greens. We were the first ones out in the morning after a thunderstorm during the previous night. The day was dark and overcast and the waste areas that double as cart paths were as hard as a brick if you were unfortunate enough to hit one there. We didn't see sun until the 15th hole. The thing that surprised me in viewing my photos is how cool the course appears even on such a dreary day. I credit that to Mike Strantz's artistry. Here are a few examples.

Played 36 there last Thursday. Windy and cold but loved every minute of it. We bought a 2 bedroom condo there 3 years ago and rent it out through Litchfield so we only go about 4 times a year but look forward to spending more time there and joining TB & Caledonia. Could play those two 3-4 times a week and never get tired of them.

I’ll be in Myrtle Beach over 4th of July weekend, and True Blue is near the top of my list to play. The problem is my playing partners are my 65 year old father coming off knee replacement and my brother who sprays it all over the place. Are they going to be able to enjoy golfing here, or should I shoot for something shorter and more forgiving?

 

The picture make it look amazing. Got me fired up to play even if I have to go out as a single.

I think they both would enjoy it. True Blue is not overly difficult and I think any skill level will enjoy the course. Just have your father and no so good golfer play the forward tees.

The fairways are wider than most courses.

 

If your father is in any deep bunkers, get the ball out for him.
