Heritage did micro punch on Tuesday. I played yesterday and the greens still rolled good, were quicker than I thought they would be as well. They were soft though which was a nice change. New rates for August as well 12-3 saturdays and sundays is $90 with cart.

For all you guys going for 50+ rounds during our short summer... How do your significant others put up with it?! Haha..

To get back on topic.. Played Speargrass for the first time last weekend. Neat course, but they REALLY need to put some sort of hole maps on the course. Either something basic on each tee box, or on the scorecard. There's a few blind tee shots there that are unfair for people who are unfamiliar with the layout.

hey,

I'm from Edmonton and was going to head south and play Dinosaur trail in Drumheller one weekend, does any one know what kind of shape its in, with the lack of rain? I'll stay a night and was going to play a there Sunday as well, but wouldn't mind trying another track, any recommendations of something near drumheller or north of calgary?

Stay away from the Bear, I haven't played, but heard from 5 guys that said it is not worth $60 nevermind the full pop ($120+) they are asking.

I hear Redtail is looking pretty good (greens not as fast as old, but very full and otherwise in good shape).

As for your other question, why don't you try Innisfail? I remember it to be super fun, not sure on the condition however as I don't know if they had lack of water issues.

+1 on Red Tail. My adopted uncle is the head teaching pro and told me it's in mint, so I went and checked it out and sure enough, best shape in 3 years...

Olds is also a good choice out in that direction, but I loveeeeee Innisfail. Played out there last fall for the first time and shot +1 and the head pro wanted to see what I could do on the last nine so he was kind of enough to let me play it for free. I returned the favor with a donation to their squares pool...great track and not easy.

Played Speargrass and Delacour this weekend.

Both are in excellent shape. Speargrass just punched so the greens are a bit on the bumpy side, but should be excellent in a few days. Whoever cuts the pins there should be shot. Never should a 3 foot putt roll off a green. There were 4 pins that were located on brutal slopes. That's a great way to piss people off to the point they won't return to your course.

Delacour is in the best shape of any course I've played in Calgary. We teed off at 4pm and were done just before 9pm. 2:40 off the front 9, lots of people quit on the back due to the bugs. Bring your bug spray as the mosquitoes are horrific if the wind is down.

It's almost impossible to book a time there for a weekend morning. I got on the website about 30min after Saturday times were released, and couldn't find anything before Noon. Crazy. Popular track.

You should be able to get onto highlands. I believe they have allotted times for public play.

Short course, but worth it to play if you haven't before.

If you don't mind a little road trip go play Ironhead on the reserve at Wabamun Lake. It is a great course. Who knows what kind of condition it is in... it can be sketchy. But its a good course and worth a day trip.

Thanks, played highlands a few times, have a friend thats a memeber, fun course I should definitely try and get out again soon, last time I went to iron head it was in horrendous shape, haven't been back since, it is a nice layout should maybe take a gamble and try it again thank

I haven't ever seen Ironhead in good shape....so I typically stay far, far, away.
I don't see Lewis Estates on that list, it's not nearly as good as it was before the ponds were filled and the tree'd area got mowed down. But a decent track to play.
Based on the goat trails you have on your list, it is certainly a big step up from a number of places you've played!

Can't say there is anything missing from your list (except some privates) that are must plays. If you can get on at the Derrick.....really great track now with the new course design. Has a stretch of VERY solid par 4s on the back 9 (goes 465,455,440,460) or something like that. Overall yardage isn't long, but being par 70 now it's decent from Deck 1.

Yeah, agreed on Ironhead... if its in bad shape its not worth it, but its such a good, fun course. I haven't been in years either, but with the weather this year it might be in decent shape? Who knows, but might be worth a shot. Westlock isn't bad either. We usually do a 36 hole day and go play Barrhead in the morning (which is on your list, and is one of the best around in my opinion) and Westlock on the way home. It isn't as good as Barrhead, but its worth a play for sure.

excellent, thanks

forgot Lewis i'll have to get out there, I've played it before, but heard they had some trouble with the greens early this year, but i'm sure they got that sorted out.

Never played the derrick, heard the Reno's were pretty extensive would love to get out there. Wanted to play the Edmonton amateur which was there this year but ended up having to go out of town.

Was the am at Derrick? I know the AB am was at p club. Though that Edmonton an was at a couple other courses.

Westlock is an ok track as well. Don't remember too much of it, played decent in the AB open qualifier years ago.

2 very different 9s.

More than impressed with canyon meadows. Course was in awesome shape, greens were quick. Front nine was awesome, back nine we were rushing a bit to finish cause the group in front of us was so slow, and the wind started blowing in the 30s probably so didn't get to appreciate it as much. But yea great layout, real solid set of greens, nothing special but just so solid

Our Sylvan town course closes on Turkey Day Holiday Monday .... plan on getting a few more in before then, which would put me at 105/rounds this year .... how many did you guys get in ?

Hoping Alberta Springs stays open until the end of October, I prefer to walk and it's a good track. Woke up to -5C with a little wind chill this morning, had an hour frost delay, the remainder of the week looks real nice but windy. Some pic's from today ....

Anybody still playing? Most of the courses around Edmonton have punched greens, etc. but I snuck out yesterday afternoon and played down at Red Tail. I was basically the only one on the course, played 18 in about 2 hours. Greens were punched and not rolling very good, but who cares. I like sneaking in these last few rounds in the fall. Might be my last game here for this season, but I am off to Phoenix in November so I have that to look forward to. Finished with 85 rounds this year, down a little bit over previous seasons, but still pretty good. Have a good winter, time to cheer for the woeful Oilers...
