I was supposed to play Blue Devil yesterday with a client, thank god they closed for the day as I didn't have the itch that bad. I'm playing the pro scratch at Copper Point on the 13th and 14th of april so for my partners sake I better try to get a round in next weekend.

Thanks for the reminder, in for the best ball at sundre and signed up for Rileys. Considering trying for the mid am and the am but I haven't made up my mind yet.

Played the track yesterday.

 

unreal day, got a nice sunburn to boot….

 

swing is coming around. Realize I cannot MIss a warmup anymore, takes me 5 holes together going if I do..

 

was 5 over through 5 then went 1 under from there ….

Well done! Those skipped warm ups can be a good or bad thing for me. I at least need to hit a few wedge shots to get some sort of swing going.

 

How was the The Track? Seems like they are working hard to get things improved over the past few years when they bought a dumpster fire. Seems like the ownership is invested into it and that they have a young and hungry superintendent. 

 

Did you get a membership at Delacour? Wonder what that building plan moving forward with that place is going to be like. Its such a gem of a course with some really good players out there!

Yah I joined there this year. 
building a launch pad style driving range 

prices wil remain the same until the end of the 2027 season then it might change. Course and land have been sold. It is now called “the canals at delacour crossing” 

 

they also have a new superintendent out there 

 

track was good. Little wet. But was good. I like it this time of the year Bette then prime time. In the super it is so hard and baked out

Not alberta but adjacent, played two rounds at Copper Point over the weekend, great condition for early season, fairways were really good could see mow lines, greens were recovering from a micro tine punch but were mostly healed, rolled well, plenty of grass, really impressed.

Could anyone offer a comparison of Sundre, Innisfail and Olds as possible stops between Calgary and RedDeer.? Any others in that region to consider?

Sundre: There are two courses here that are super fun. Coyote Creek is great and you can bomb it out there into some wide FW's. Usually in great shape. Sundre Golf club is also very nice, both tree lined. SGC is tighter and in great shape. It's a fun double day if you can. 

Olds: Fantastic. Always in great shape. Fun track to play. 

Innisfail: Gets a lot of love. It's a fun course. If you don't mind holes where you cannot see the greens and have to map it out, this is good. Usually in great shape.

If I had to choose one to play, Olds. Can't beat it for value and conditions. Nothing super fancy about the clubhouse. It's a great track. The next one would be Sundre Golf Club. 

If you want a more adventurous course around that area. Water Valley is a fun track.

I have never played Olds, but hear its good. Innisfail is good to very good. But Sundre is one of my favorite courses in Alberta.. to me it is like Augusta north, every time I have played it it is so pure and fun. Just my opinion, but I would play Sundre 10 times out of 10.

Also haven't played Olds, but if I was splitting 10 rounds between Sundre and Innisfail, I'd probably go 7 Sundre, 3 Innisfail. Sundre is so pure.

Maybe it's because everytime I've played olds its a miserable 5hr qualifier round or junior tournament but I've never been a fan of it.

Delacour greens are MINT right now! 
 

actually prob to fast for the spring winds. Get in the wrong spot , and you might not keep it on the green 

 

but rolling pure!

Wintergreen wintered really well too. They're lightning right now. They actually need to get them growing

You definitely can't show up expecting a 4 hour round. it's the biggest drawback of the qualifiers.

Good event out in sundre for the Alberta best ball, course was in solid shape, greens super healthy but man were they slow. We made 7 birdies as a team 8 total, but mix that in with 5 bogeys and you don't do as well as you likely should. Fun event, will try to do it again next year.

 

Oh pace of play was great for the first 9 ish holes and then became glacial, talking 20+ minute waits on 4 and 7 tee.

For my special B-Day, I would really like to get out and play one or both of the Kananaskis courses again in July. 

 

The website TT booking says they're totally full, as well you can only book for 2 or 4 players.

 

I called the Proshop and was hoping to get on, as a single.  They said they would put me on a wait list and would let me know "1 week" before my desired date's. 

 

It's a 3 hr drive from Sylvan, so I'll need to find accommodations, at peak season this could be a challenge in itself.

 

Has anyone here had any success getting a reasonable TT  here, while on their wait list ?

 

Or should I look at other courses ?

I usually book last minute as I’m only about 45 minutes away from the course. There’s usually lots of “day of” times if you’re not picky about what time you play

So I don't know if anybody is in the market, but I sure as hell was! And I didn't even know it..

Golf Traders in Calgary has a promo on right now for TSR woods. You can get a new (in the plastic) Driver AND 3 wood for $725! ($650 if they're used) and they let me swap shafts as I saw fit. I grabbed a couple brand new TSR3's as fast as I could!!

High round total at my club was 142, I think we had ~150 days open this year so that's getting your money's worth.

Bandon is the best, weather was really good, almost too good as it was sunny so we got frost delayed two mornings which meant we couldnt get 36 in. Going again this november but on a lighter round schedule due to it being so busy, sucks but it is what it is.
