The latest in the GC Morning Drive rants.

Damon is on with the head of instruction for GolfTec.

Damon is astounded to learn that if you consistently hit a slice it might be beneficial to aim down the left side instead of the middle.

Wow. Revolutionary thinking.

Trevino always said if you slice it on purpose, then you can call it a fade.

Walter: Tell me Bobby, why do you play this game?
Bobby: I play because I love it.
Walter: Well I play for the money. I have to win. That is why every time we face each other I will always beat you.

Just aim about 1.5 fairway-widths over to the left, you'll be dead center.

I know it's such a minor thing, especially to start a thread about.

It was just Damon's reaction that this was such a ground breaking idea.

The things a guy'll do for a buck.... Lol, morning drive is too much for me. I can't handle listening to those guys for very long.

Although Morning Drive is not my favorite, I have grown to like the guy. In a world of know it all golf instruction, he plays the 18 index student with genuine enthusiasm to perfection.

I am grabbing my fire extinguisher now.

I'm sorry to say, this is just one reason GC isn't as well liked as before. Trevino is right, and he also said 'you can talk to a fade, you can't talk to a hook', which also is true.

When Mr. Palmer ran the channel is was much better, with solid instruction, some good special interest stuff, and golf tourneys. When sold out to NBC they managed to ruin it.

How many times can they show (though good) those 4 golf movies, replay Live from some course for 8 hours a day, Shotmakers ? Wished it was back like when started....

But if your announcer, who seriously had to be acting (hope so) doesn't understand the basics, you need a better announcer for the sport.

People that are non-avid golfers simply do not watch Golf Channel. Their programming should be geared to avid golfers, not try to overly simplify the info or provide variety show type entertainment that might appeal more to a wider audience. I just don't think most people that watch GC are there for the shtick, they watch for golf-related news, instruction, and equipment info.

Aiming down left hand side for people that slice actually encourages a bigger wipe across the ball and a bigger slice, in my experience.

Agree, totally, but.

NBC realized one thing that most of us knew already. People today don't want to "learn", because they either don't have the time or they're just lazy as their attitude toward everything else these days. Gradually I had noticed in the last few decades that the mass don't want to do extra for whatever and for whatever reason. Even a nice gesture of saying "please, and think you". When the society is short cutting the basic connection between the cells, it'll come unglued.

So the network is trying to attract the non-golfers with the weekend warrior by making the Golf Channel the way it is today.

I won't be surprise if the schedule is running by a bunch of non-golfers whom "manage from the desk". This has been going on for quite some time now, just look at the everyday business, not many "management" will totally immerse in the trade, they have a shinning resume but no practical knowledge of how things work in that trade. All they care about is pump up the numbers on the paper and take their bonus and retirement........

Our local Park and Recreation service hired a guy to manage all the municipal golfer courses and guess what? He is not a golfer and don;t care about the golf except for keeping peace and not to rock the boat until he retires.

A general whom ignore soldiers' well being might win a victory or two but at what cost ?

And yes, non-golfers won;t find the Golf Channel interesting unless they start the variety show program.

I remembered before I got bitten by the golf bug, often wondering why my father watch golf tournament on television, such a boring and stupid game, I thought.

What's even more astounding is that this seems so simple and people can quote the advice instantly but still hit the ball OB right. Same goes for hookers.

Raymond Floyd had a book years ago where he said he could beat any hacker with their own swing. He's right because he understood the tendencies of slicers and hookers.

What happens almost inevitably is that they either open or close themselve, depending on their problem, and it becomes even worse. So doing what golfers do, they can't be bothered to take five minutes to fix the issue because they are "too busy" or "lessons don't work" or "I don't have time to get worse before I get better". It's literally a 5 second fix that can change their game.

I watched the same show and had the same reaction.

Sorry but Trevino's quote is not the no brainer it's made out to be. A hook and fade are two different things. He could have said "you can talk to a draw but not a slice" and would have been just as accurate and would still have been comparing apples to oranges.

A fade is not superior and no more controllable than a draw.
