Connecticut National (worth the drive?)

I live in SW CT and have played many courses in the state yet I haven't played Connecticut National to date.

For those that have played it do you think it is worth approximately an hour and 20 minute drive and if you have played river ridge, can you compare it to that golf course?

I played RR many times and am curious to know which one is better.

Never played River Ridge but...

 

CN is pretty nice - you will not be walking - way too many hills

 

But the layout is interesting and challenging - as noted lots of elevation changes, some pretty dramatic holes. Greens were good when I played...

I would wait until June and the grasses/heather is up - frame things as they are supposed to be

Agree with allparz. I live in central CT but try to make the hour and a half drive to CT National a couple times a year. I played the course 2 weeks ago and it was in good shape for the spring. I would definitely wait a month or so to play when the fescue gets nice and tall. The course is usually in excellent shape and never seems too busy. I usually play it during the week because its around $50 bucks with a cart ($25 bucks with CT playbook or golfing magazine subscription) and $5 lunch voucher. I have not played River Ridge to compare but it definitely competes with the top public CT tracks like fox hopyard, oxford greens and wintonbury hills. The restaurant is excellent and be sure to try the short rib sandwich. IMO this course would be a top public track and a lot pricier if not for being in the middle of no where!

Is river ridge the course near Foxwoods? If so I can’t imagine ct national not being substantially better.

River Ridge isnt near the casino per se but it is in the Southeastern part of the state.

From what I'm hearing about Connecticut National it would blow River Ridge away because River Ridge is an average course

Yeah just looked it up, 8 miles from foxwoods. Played many a bachelor party there.

CT National is one of my favorites, it's just under an hour drive for me, so another 20 min would be no problem.

 

Disagree about walking it, it's a pretty easy walk IMO. The only real hilly part is 8/9/10, the rest is pretty flat.

 

Sorry, can't compare to the other course as I haven't played it.

I didnt answer the question, the respondents to my question answered it and I am appreciative of the feedback.

 

It sounds like CT National is a great place and I am excited to check it out
