Club builder in Metro West Boston

Anyone have recommendations for a club builder, preferably in Metro West Boston?

 

I have the heads, shafts, and grips, just need someone to put them together to a particular length and swing weight. Not sure if Golf Galaxy is the right place?

I've gotten fit there, and my understanding was they get most clubs built in Chicago and shipped over. They have a workarea there but the fitter seemed to intimate that they're too busy to do club building entirely in the Needham facility. I was worried that I couldn't just bring club components for them to put together, esp if they didn't fit me for that club. I guess I could just ask the fitter.

Most club builders are too busy these days to assemble parts purchased elsewhere. The margins they generate from non-stock shafts are very significant and are far more than what they would charge hourly. I know ace of clubs won’t do it anymore as they would rather do the fittings and sell you the clubs

 

Keep calling around (try Harmon golf), but you may need to wait until the fall when business slows down. Also, ask the golf pros at places around like a Leo J or Sandy Burr. I’d also ping Kohr Golf in Natick - they Might have some ideas

Funny, I’ve heard a lot of glowing reviews, and a lot of really bad reviews about ace of clubs. Nothing in between.

ive never been there was just throwing out names. Club champion only one I’ve been too. Have a cool clubs driving fitting coming up tho.

Are there any folks with club building equipment that would be willing to help me out? Happy to pay a fee and/or treat you to a round and lunch/beer. I think I'd trust a GolfWRX enthusiast over Golf Galaxy or otherwise.

With all due respect...this is a lot more work than I think you think it is. I assume you’ve been to Club Champion / Spargo / Ace of Clubs and were appalled by how much they wanted to charge.

 

I enjoy building clubs, but I can’t imagine doing it for another person - too much work for not enough upside.

That’s a fair point. But I would be happy to pay a fair price for it to be built with care within a reasonable time window.

If you do take your clubs there to get assembled, make sure you get that timeline in writing and don't just take their word for it. I was fitted there over the winter (2nd time getting fit there) and bought the components myself for a driver and hybrid build. Took the components there thinking that it wouldn't be an issue since I've had 2 iron sets built there in the past. Well, it took over 3 weeks to get any sort of response from them, and only after I complained on social media to the corporate level did I get a response. I like the fitters there, but buyer beware on the club building aspect of things.

Update here: ended up going to Stone Meadow in Lexington because it's 3m away from my work. There is a club builder who works out of that outfit - Steve at "Tour Quality Clubmaking". Have had him replace grips and is fine. Asking him to pull shafts, replace, adjust loft/lie and swing weight. Will report back.
