WHO STILL PLAYS WITH A "CLASSIC" BAG

I was curious who else still played with a bag full of equipment more than 7 or 8 years old? I play my best with a bag consisting of G10 Driver, G5 Fairway, and I3 Blade irons.

Man those original TA845's were way ahead of their time and super easy to hit. Played those for almost 13 years before finally moving on.

I've got patent pending EYE2s in one bag with an awesome original Anser X. I just added a set of EYE2 laminate woods to go with them...

My driver and 3 wood are both "new," as well as my wedges, all are from the last 5 years. My hybrids, irons, and putters are all much older, 10-20 years old.

Right now in my signature my stuff is new to what I usually play. Right now I have a mix of old and new depending on whom you ask. My Mizuno irons are 2012 which in some eyes are new and some old. But my main back up set of irons are 1982 Mac VIPs with 80s Genuine Hogan Apex Shafts. I have so many vintage sticks. I guess my 3rd back up sets of irons would be a cross between a set of 54 Hogan Precisions or a set of 57 Mac Diamond Backs. Now I am hitting a Homna G1-X driver which is a oddity in itself but 2 or 3 years old. And I just switched my more modern Adams 3 wood to a V-Steel with a TT Lite STEEL SHAFT, You may see anything of any vintage in my bag at any time. Since I do not play comps or big money matches any more I basically switch stuff around. It is part of my fun seeing if I can hit different stuff

Switching up the bag this season first time since 2005

I did when I first got back into the game last year. I had Cally Big Bertha's driver and woods, Tour Model II irons, Wilson (I think it was) SW and Ping Pal 4 putter. Now to be honest I am not sure I play any better with newer stuff that I have now. Now I am looking for a cheap set of irons again to play til I get things figured out and if I don't, then I wont buy any more! A nice set of 845's or something along those lines or another set of Tour Model II irons or old Wilson's.

I just got my MP 37's in thursday, so pulled the shafts today, spine aligned and re epoxy before dinner.

These have great faces and nice DGS200 shafts that have worked for me well 2 years ago with J33 CB's !!

I can soft step as in the J33's or grab some DGR 300s from my year 2000 Wilson FG Tour irons i found !!

 

I still have the 905R or Ping i15.

All the Vokeys are SM or SM2, may get some SM6 soon !!

The Scotty Mid Slant may be around 2002.

So plenty of Great Stuff left, cheers, Roger

My 20 year old Ping BeNi ISI are off to get refinished and then I'll be putting new shafts in them and putting them in play. Again.

 

I won't be taking my 30+ year old forged Staffs and persimmons out again until I get the rough edges scraped off my swing.

My buddy Ladd is a classic bag.

Not a "gamer" set per se, but I have kept a bag at my parent's place out of town (vacation/casual sticks) for the last 5 or 6 years. Mostly circa late 90's/early 00's:

 

Wilson DD5 driver

Sonartec SS-03 woods (3W/5W)

Titleist DCI 962 irons (3-PW)

Alien Tutch Chamber wedges (56/60)

Ram Wizard 610 putter

I have a standard 3 metals, 9 irons , 55* wedge & 8802 style putter setup.

 

Traditional irons range from 1992-2001 (4 sets I'm comfortable grabbing but usually stick with 1 for season). Collection looks like Time/Life best of blades, the 90's

 

Driver is only thing bought new retail in 2017. 1st purchase like that in 20 years, the rest is acquired by perusing eBay and such. Even bag was NOS circa 2008.

 

Thoroughly happy with bag from top to bottom and have zero desire to make any changes or to add. Top & bottom match the middle with a real consistency through out (somewhat a first). They are all a blast to swing.

I have plenty of "classics" that I play. My current bag has a Ping G400 driver, then V-steels, Mac Muirfield 20ths, a VIP SW that I think is from the early 90s, and an old-ish Titleist 60* (260 series; I don't know much about Vokeys), and an Odyssey #8 that is a few years old.

But I also swap out the metals for persimmon every other round, and chuck an old Wilson TPA XVIII putter in there as well. Persimmon is a lot of fun.
