Bandon Dunes, Pacific Dunes, Old Mac - Pic Heavy

So there's quite a few Bandon Dunes Resort topics. Not that many with lots of pictures.

My friend here in Yakima, WA has a high school buddy (KC) who is a caddie down at Bandon and invited us down to be his guests for a few days. He caddies there about 5 or 6 days a week and usually double bags it in the morning and double bags it in the afternoon. So after an 8 hour drive from Yakima, WA down the coast on Tuesday, we arrived. Stopped by the caddie shack for a few minutes before heading to the practice facility and warm up before we teed off at Bandon Dunes.

The practice facility was amazing. 40 spots with nice little pyramids of Titleist NXT golf balls. The practice putting green was about the size of a football field. Absolutely massive with about 40 different pin locations. Hit a few putts and about 30 warm up shots before heading over to the first tee.

The weather was absolutely perfect. Upper 60's with a slight breeze which was amazing for the coast. Stopped in before we teed off to grab a few cocktails and off we went. The course was in great shape. The greens were a little slower than what I was expecting, but overall, pretty decent speed wise. We were using our Sun Mountain push carts and KC was just telling us to push the carts right across the greens. I won't go into details about the hole descriptions or pin locations, but we had to adjust for the sea level and the distance that our normal club selections go down there. I came up about 10 yards short for the first 3 or 4 holes before realizing we were at sea level and needed to club up.

When we teed off, it was about 4:20pm. I think we saw 2 other groups on the front nine and maybe one group on the back. It was like we had the entire course to ourselves. It was amazing and breath taking to play that course at sunset along the Pacific Ocean. Ended up shooting +4 which I was happy with after a long drive in a car.

Went to dinner in downtown Bandon and stayed at our AirBNB place.

Next morning, went and played Old MacDonald around 11:00am. We were told that the greens were massive with slopes we weren't used to. KC wasn't lying. One of the greens he said was 90 yards from front to back. Crazy!! This course is 100% fescue with gorse lining a lot of the fairways and tee boxes. It was amazing! This course definitely was a little more difficult to walk and isn't the caddie favorite to loop for. I found the greens to be a little slower than Bandon Dunes and my score reflected so. +7 for the round. Overall experience was still pretty amazing as the fairways were extremely wide and generous.

After a quick bite and a beer, we headed off to Pacific Dunes. This course was my favorite. Great views, great greens. Everything was amazing!!! We finished off around sunset and again, we were one of a few groups on the entire course. So peaceful to be playing a nice little par 3 with the sun setting along the Pacific Ocean. Amazing!!! Ended up shooting +1 with a chip in eagle on 16.

Thursday morning, we played Bandon Crossings which was a few miles south of Bandon. This a great track to play which was a little different than the other three course and a nice relief to be in a golf cart after walking so much the previous two days.

All in all, a great trip with great people, great views, great golf and fantastic weather! Will definitely be back in the near future!

The only problem with this post is that you didn't play (and therefore document) Bandon Trails or Bandon Preserve! I'm going for the first time in November so of course I'm eating all these threads up. These have to be some of the best pictures I've seen that show off the character of the courses there. Sure, the postcard pics are incredible but I found these to be a bit more revealing related to what each course is like. Thanks!

We were scheduled to play Bandon Trails Thursday morning, but considering we were playing all the courses for free, we had to play when there was an opening in tee times. And considering the earliest we could play was 11:00am and having a nice little 8 hour drive home, we decided against that as we would've been on the road until almost midnight. My buddy and I are going to be heading back down again at a later time and that will be the first course we play. Glad you liked the pics.
