so is this just an updated loft DBM? just wondering if any other changes. Still have a set of DBM but just cannot hit the distances needed as I get older with the weaker lofts... and this vs the ts-4 what are the thoughts...

COG is also a little higher. Up to .706 from .675 so might bring ballflight down slightly depending on strike, attack, etc.

I'll be adding the TE+ Black GW, PW to the PTM Black set.

It's nice to see the lofts match up nearly across the board with forged offerings these days.

The only Odd Ball is the TS4 and its not so far off that it won't blend easily.

The TS4 is only 1° different for the most part. 1.5° on the 6 and PW and 2° on the GW. Should blend really well. I do like the idea of the slightly weaker lofts on the TS4 as it's the most traditional looking iron and blends well with my wedge setup. I hit the ball a mile high so a super low COG isn't something that really appeals to me.

Just bought the new TE+ 5-Gap and 54/60 Max Milled wedges for $565 shipped. Unreal! Cant beat that (even if I have to swap in different shafts down the road) to have a back up/travel set on hand that has a players look, minimal offset (albeit a bit more in the shorter irons since its constant), and super soft feel. Hell, it may go right to the top spot in my rotation. Loved the original TE but it wasn't perfect. The new pearl finish, more compact/shallow better looking cavity, and refined sole radius may make this a big winner. I love the lofts as they really remind me of the old school gapping you just don't see anymore. There is 3 degrees from the 4 to 5 to 6 iron (I had the 5 bent 1 strong to make it 4 degrees) and then 4 degrees up to the 48 Gap Wedge which is essentially an old school pitching wedge. So what you really have is a perfectly gapped old school 4-P that is dressed up as a 5-Gap wedge. Allows me to play a Driver, 17/19/22 hybrid setup (ditched a 3 wood for good... I think) at the top end of the bag. Add in 2 scoring wedges like the good ole days and there you have it. The modern 5 degrees (and sometimes even 6!) between 8-9-P-G leaves too big of full swing gaps in my game. Even my current 0211ST blades are guilty of that.

Sweet. Hope you get them quick. I didn't even know they were taking orders yet. Good luck. You may have the first set out.

One of the extra details I've always liked about their designs, is that the short irons and most of the wedges do not have too low off offset, where the center of leading edge is out in front of the lead side of the shaft.  Anything real close to 'zero' offset looks like Onset

Been waiting for this for months. Now....do I drop a cheap FST 125 shaft in my test model?

The shaft costs you are finding are why I ended up going Modus 120 S in my IM set. They were $24 each. It fits me so not a problem but so does KBS Tour and I felt it was too much.

Looking at it now, I would either try the Score LT or one of the FST shafts. I feel like the Score LT trimmed stiff would be fine.

I do think KBS keeps the a la carte price high because that way when OEMs offer their shafts as a no upcharge custom shaft it is an additional enticement as a “premium” shaft. They don’t want customers seeing it out there for $19.99. It must be that KBS gets a lot more sales out of its supply deals with OEMs and they’re not too concerned about individual buyers. I always have wondered if you pick the right FST shaft how similar would it perform to KBS?

That helps, thanks @iamlowsound! So the LT Score Shaft is currently $9.99 but I know it has been $12.99 in the past. Let's call it $10. KBS Tour is $42. So the incremental cost difference per club on shafts is $32.

$435 + [(42-10)*(7)] = $659

A good savings from what I had originally calculated but still fairly steep. The other option is to go Nippon 1150GH which is a cheaper option that I can get along with and comes in at a respectable....

$435 + [(25-10)*(7)] = $540

Or just take my chances on a KBS Tour shaft pull off ebay. Those seem to range about $30/club with shipping. The best case would be if I just got along with the Score LT shaft.

I would never buy a set of KBS shaft pulls. I have had so many bent tips, it’s not worth the gamble.

As far as the .370" parallel tip shafts, the FST 125 has a nearly identical bend profile compared to the KBS Tour, when trimmed to "S" or "X".

The FST 115 'S/X' when trimmed to "S" flex, is nearly identical to the KBS Tour "R" .370 tip.  To reiterate, trim the 115 to "Stiff" to get to KBS Tour "Regular", as the FST 115 has a softer bend profile than the FST 125.

The FST 90, which is a 100 gram raw weight, has a nearly identical bend profile to the KBS Tour 90 .370" parallel tip....which is no longer available.

FST is the manufacturer of KBS shafts

If you do go FST 125, let me know how it plays.

I’m back and forth between DG130 and DG120 (leaning toward 120).

My concern with the FST 125 is almost everything I can find across the net is for the 125 pro…which sounds like something I would play. But not sure on the 125 non pro.

The "Pro" version just had a very slightly softer butt section, as well as being a step less shaft.  Other than that, the rest of bend profile through the tip... they are nearly identical

FST is incredible value and the performance is second to none. A "no-brainer" for ~$11 per.

The only thing I worry about is the descending weight in the FST since all the irons are cut from the same length shaft. I am in KBS Tours now which have more of a constant weight I think.

You might try one in a higher loft, to see if a weight balance difference does anything for you

The total club weights will still be ascending, it just tightens the range of the set. The 7g or so difference between club heads is more than the grams in a half-inch of cut shaft (less than 2g). The key is to get the right blank for your starting point so that when it is trimmed it is in the weight range you want. If you want to end up in the 105-115g range installed, get the 125. The uncut shafts are 43 inches long so about 2.9g per inch.

Any parallel sets I’ve had the swing weights worked out fine so probably don’t need to worry about that.

I have a set of FST 115’s cut to X. They are really a firm. Much weaker to flex than the Apollo Spectre Lite which is even lighter and about the same cost.

The TE+ specs look awfully close to the TS3. Seems like the difference would be more forgiveness for strikes towards the toe on the TS3?

My take is a little different.  With more KBS shafts being offered as stock, which are not being bought anywhere near retail, they have to increase prices to offset the lower revenue for those units supplied as stock shafts.

Wasn't that long ago that KBS Tours were mid-$20s per shaft.  Now they're $40+.

During supply chain issues people were paying those highly inflated prices. Now that things are back to normal ish, people are just taking it as normal. It's just a price gouge. A massive, price gouge.

Selling shafts to OEM companies is just free money what ever the margin. You don't have to do anything. Just place the order and drop ship. So it's not like losing profit margin.

Well, the problem there, and as we

see in this thread, is people just do what I did and switch to another shaft. It’s easy to do that with so many options.

Yep, KBS had massive supply issues for a while there. It's why they stopped making some of the FST models.

@dmeeksDC I was looking at it and if the FST 125 start at 125 uncut at 43" then by the time I get to 38" the shaft is going to be down around 110g which, to your point, isn't a crazy drop in weight from the 120g I am at now. PW at 36" is like 105g and GW would be 103g.

I can always take a chance on a build of a 7 iron and then if it doesn't work out there may be another adventurous soul on this board that would also want to try and we could start our own unofficial demo program here.

Not really.  The TE+ actually has a slightly longer "C-dimension" or horizontal COG.  I would expect them to be about the same for a toe side impact.

I'm still really surprised that they were able to justify releasing two forged designs that are this close in "playability" and price.  Nice to have extra options though

I have been waiting.. and waiting.   Getting close to having a #7 iron in TS-1IM and TE+ to see what my next "have to have" set becomes.  I have NV graphite that I picked up nearly a year ago waiting..

I also picked up a set of the Score shafts in case I want to dabble back in the metal side of things.  Not sure why I would at age 62.   HMMMMMMMM

My mistake. I just looked at my ticket. I was incorrect. I paid $34. They are now $37. It was the Nippon 950 .370 that was $24.50 and I considered that one but decided to pay for the 120. It was in the custom department on the GolfWorks site, where you build the clubs piece by piece.

Yeah, looking at the specs they appear very similar. The TE+ looks a lot more compact based on the renderings even though they are really close in size. The TE+ looks to have a much thinner top line.
