this is it.  Read SW directly from slide block

I have one of those. Just make sure the surface is level and it works very well.

In terms of tools needed to build out the set, I was going to buy this swingweight scale: https://swingw.com/shop/p/simple-swingweight-xl-tpcek.

Spoiler

I have this exact model and LOVE it. It’s exactly what I needed as someone just starting out, and I already had several digital gram scales around. I would highly recommend this one.

i'm starting to gravitate towards the TE+ DBM finish as I do like dark wedges.  I'd appreciate any feedback before

i punch the button.  Other option for this Winter is a TS3 build for a long trip South.  Thanks.

I just got my shipping notification for a TE+ V4 DBM 7 iron that I will be trying out against my current 7 iron. I will be posting my thoughts here, if they matter to anyone. The main differences off the top are:

-Current clubs have KBS Tour 120S shafts in them and these DBMs will have FST 125 Stiff so the shafts in the DBM will be lighter and have a, somewhat, different profile
-Current 7 iron is 34* and the DBM is 32*
-Current 7 iron has fairly pronounced V-Sole a la Srixon while the DBM has a more standard radiused sole

I am genuinely curious about the FST shafts since they are both descending weight (since they all start at the same raw length and are cut down for each iron) and they are significantly cheaper. Might be much ado about nothing and if I see no real discernible difference between the FST and my current KBS Tour then I save myself about $30 per club on a full set....which would be nice.

Sweet, I'm looking forward to your thoughts. I am excited to see some real life pics of the dbm finish. Maltby images on the website look like they crawled out of club builder catalogue from 1992.

The DBM finish has always been a runaway favorite of mine. There are zero signs of bag chatter. The grooves are actually sharper vs a chrome coating. The only signs of wear are a graying of the leading edge and middle of the face. A quick wipe of WD40 makes them look brand new. The slight increase in firmness is well worth it. I was having an absolute hoot plating the PTM DBM heads as the season ended.

I have some TE+DBM heads coming in but I doubt I'll be able to even hit them for a good 10 days.

@Popeye64since you have hit all the new offerings I assume, which of the new heads has the same buttery soft feel of the ptm irons? I just hit my satin chrome ptm and the forging feels amazingly soft, and looking for the newer irons with similar feel.

Is the TS-2 dead? I know it is still offered, but has it been buried by the new offerings?

Definitely buried, but I'm surprised they're discontinuing them. There's no other goo filled, relatively thick topline SGI head in their lineup. Maybe they have something in the works?

Any of you TS3 users playing with the gap wedge in the set?  Just curious how it plays.  I have the 4-PW and like them but have always used a Cleveland 50 for my gap wedge.  Just got some new 54 and 60 Zip Cores for next year and trying to make up my mind on what gap wedge to use.  Can always add a 50 Zip Core and maybe bend the 54 to 55.  But 44 PW to a 50 is a big gap.  Maybe add the TS3 Gap and bend it to 49ish???   Just not sure if the sole is similar to the rest of the set or if it has a little more radius and I could use it for some more versatile shots around the green.  Any input appreciated.

I have the TS3 set and I play the GW, before going to the TSW 52°/56°. The GW is a full swing club for me, so I like it to match the iron set.

I need it for full shots too.  But I've always played a lot of short shots around the green with the 50 whenever I have plenty of green to work with.  I'm worried the set gap wedge won't have the shot versatility I am looking for.  Does your set Gap wedge sole look just like the PW or are there any cosmetic or playability differences?  I see it only has 5 degrees of bounce and I think I would need something with 8-10 degrees of bounce.

I wish I could say there is a clear equal to how the PTM feels and plays. The slightly oversized face has always allowed a huge amount of forgiveness. While still feeling so darn good. You can really hit the ball across the face and get away with it.

So far I don't feel anything has equalled that.

The new offerings all feel fairly unique to me in thier own way.

TS3 high on the face feels like crap. Sweet spot is plush. I couldn't keep the ball low enough on the face to enjoy them. Time was limited as it just didn't seem to be my iron.

TS4 has a firmer feel but seems a bit friendlier across the face. With a bit more of a deliberate swing I can really groove these. Over all a great iron but lacks the pureness in the feel of the strike, like an MMB-17 did. It definitely talks back off the sweet spot though but not punishing.

The TS1-IM has the same hit it all over performance of the PTM, but lacks the soft feel. The TS1-IM is not a bad feel, it's just a tad clicky. If I have to choose one that allowed me to stray with my swing in bad days yet still feel good. The TS1-IM.

The TE + should be an interesting club.

It matches the PW closely. If you need more bounce, I don't think it would do what you want.

Whatever series you choose, across the board the GW heads are awesome.

No matter which one I bring out to play I'm just wowed by its performance.

The latest one the stay really planted into the bag is the TS4. But any one, TS1-IM, TS3, TS4... all stellar. I've had them in the bag when I'm playing the KE4 Max or the PTM Blacks. Both of those GWs are BIG. The other series are more compact.

Of the three the TS4 is an around the green weapon!! All three are great on full swings but short stuff... TS4.

The effective bounce plays higher than the 5* spec indicates

I didn't really think about adding the TS4 gap wedge but I guess it's a possibility.  The loft is certainly right.  Or I could just add a TSW in the 50 degree.  Or in true WRX fashion, I could just order all 3 🙂

I have 5-GW. I put them into play right when the TS-3 came out.  I play them like a traditionally lofted 4-PW..   The GW is very good chipping and from fwy also.  I play it from 105 to 115 yds.    I have the set shafted in AXE RT 95 shafts.   I would highly recommend it

I was wondering about that.  I've never been able to get away with less than 8-10* bounce in a GW.  I was thinking I could weaken the loft of a new model by 2* to gain some bounce and maybe that would be enough?  I mainly use a GW for full swing, but I do get steep at times with that club.  I tried to use an old DBM GW once and that didn't work well at all lol.

I like the way it looks. It looks utilitarian. It looks workman like. It looks like a tool which is what it really is.
