You guys are terrible. I didn't even need new irons.

Now I have a set of dbm ts3 heads that have just arrived.

And a new wedge.

And now I have to remove the paint and go a custom colour.

Even without that they are some of the best looking irons i have ever seen. Photos don't do them justice...

Super happy to help contribute to the problem!  Have fun with those TS3s.

What shaft are you throwing in there?

Been a while since I posted here. I put this in another forum as well. I can’t believe how forgiving these TS3 heads are, truly shocking.

I lost some distance playing the TS1-IM in a PX 6.0. Couldn’t pin a reason down.  This build gave it back and then some. 7-GW in TS3 DBM with an Aldila NV 95S shaft. Designer ferrules and a Lamkin Crossline plus grip complete the black on black theme. I’m going to paint fill some DRT wedges paired with a Dynamic Gold 105 S Black Onyx wedge shafts as well. I’ll throw them up when I complete the build later today.

Great looking build.  Well done.

Can you tell me what swing weight you ended up with in the NVs?   Considering a very similar build.

They all came out at D6. But they are built .5” over standard, 37.5” in the 7 iron and so on. I did this with a purpose as I wanted them to play slightly upright. Bending the DBM heads is ill advised. Also, the NV iron shafts play very stiff. I wanted them to be a little easier to load at that extra length.

I would imagine a 37” 7 iron would drop the weight a few points.

mini driver out of a 14° M890 driver head.

Blacked out the alignment marker and removed the white paint fill on the face. After cottoning the head and swapping out the torx weight it sat at 215g. I paired it with a UST Competition 65 3 wood shaft. Thing is definitely a fairway finder. Tested it on course. It sounds mean after the cottoning.

Woah.  Hold the phone.  Cottoning? As in……. Stuffing cotton balls inside?

What’s the playing length. Wild!  And for the record, you stole nothing.  Simply used an idea as inspiration.  We’re all inventors and collaborators here.

If no news comes out about a tc pro mini driver soon….. might just have to try this out.

You got it! Open it up and shove about 8 cotton balls in there. Maltby drivers downside for me is that they sound too “pingy” for my taste. The M890 sounds comical stock. You have to do it in a setting where you can drop a few in and test. There’s a point where you can over do it. Anyway, the mini driver has a nice crunchy thwack now. Closer to the way the newer Titleist drivers sound. I did the same thing with my TC Pro driver. Spoiler alert on the TC Pro, it did not make the bag. I hit some absolute bombs with it. But it ended up too low spin for me. Can’t find anything that beats my Sim Max.

Playing length is 43” and the shaft is tipped like a 3 wood. The additional head weight makes it flex correctly at that length.

Forgot to update here. I looked at my shot data and realized I could count on one hand the amount of shots from the fairway I hit with my 3 wood. So I stole an idea from Elite Fit Golf’s YouTube video and made a Frankenstein mini driver out of a 14° M890 driver head.

Nice. But it's just a short driver, at 460ccs there's nothing mini about it

Please post these. I can’t get over how they look and perform. I shot a 75 today with the TS3’s, DRT-A wedges, and the “not so mini” driver for short par 4’s. That’s +4 including a double bogey on a par 5 where I blasted my Sim Max down the middle.

That would make sense that it was too low, assuming you're getting a decent ball flight with a 14* driver head?  Keeping in mind that a ~14* loft in a driver head is going to flight a lot higher than a ~15+* fairway head

Yes. My fault for being unclear. I was only referring to the cottoning of the head on the TC pro. Afterwards, it had a nice muted sound. I set it up at 45” and a Maltby pro series driver shaft. It was just too low spin if I caught one out of the toe, which is my miss.

The M890 does fly high off the tee. I ended up teeing it a little lower and play it a ball back in my stance to lower the launch. The story is that I rarely use my 3 wood other than for tee shots. They both carry about the same in the end. The extra height allows me to cut corners over trees at my home course that the 3 wood flight is not capable of. More of a test than anything. I haven’t tested off the deck yet, but I would imagine that the added weight and 14° loft would make it easier to hit off the ground in a pinch. If I can find an affordable 12.5-13° head that allows weight to be added, I may consider a swap out.

Well first day out with the TS4s and it felt like a whole new world.  The left miss was basically gone (had them bent 1* flat, and had x100s put in vs my old 105g reg flex shafts).  Communication on mishits was amazing, when you pure it its straight butter.  Shot a course personal best 97 (previously 103) on a pretty bad driver day.  If you have ever questioned getting maltby clubs, just do it.  About to play another round at a course that hosed a US Open qualifier 2 weeks ago, so I am going to get my a** kicked, but it should be fun!

Very instructive to a lot of people’s questions that a player happy with a 97 felt like the TS4s were a good fit. Just because they’re blades doesn’t mean they’re impossible to play.

To be fair, I am a relatively high SS player and my main reason for getting the TS4 was to keep the lofts the same (without bending 2+ degrees) from my prior set to keep distances basically even.  I also played baseball through HS at a decent level, so I can feel what my body and clubface are doing for the most part and correct where needed to get a decent shot the next time. Also they are gorgeous, and every time I look at them I want to go hit balls on the range and do more work so that helps the improvement aspect.  I value feedback over all else, for ball striking and personal improvement, so the TS4s just made sense.

I shot a 108 yesterday (also a course best) on probably the most difficult course in our area (hosted a US Open Quali 3 weeks ago).  If the greens weren't as punishing I think I would have broken 100 yesterday as well. 45 putts was just atrocious. Was hitting Iron shots with purpose and pulling them off though, so there is always a plus side even on a slightly disappointing round.
