To be fair, I am a relatively high SS player and my main reason for getting the TS4 was to keep the lofts the same (without bending 2+ degrees) from my prior set to keep distances basically even.  I also played baseball through HS at a decent level, so I can feel what my body and clubface are doing for the most part and correct where needed to get a decent shot the next time. Also they are gorgeous, and every time I look at them I want to go hit balls on the range and do more work so that helps the improvement aspect.  I value feedback over all else, for ball striking and personal improvement, so the TS4s just made sense.

I shot a 108 yesterday (also a course best) on probably the most difficult course in our area (hosted a US Open Quali 3 weeks ago).  If the greens weren't as punishing I think I would have broken 100 yesterday as well. 45 putts was just atrocious. Was hitting Iron shots with purpose and pulling them off though, so there is always a plus side even on a slightly disappointing round.

Ahhhhhhh clubface control.  I'm pretty good at that with my irons and hybrids.  But, GOOD LORD, I wish I could do that with my driver.  There are times where I'm straight and the ball goes where I'm aiming and other times I'm pushing, blocking and slicing my way to a higher score.  Often, my iron game and short game bail me out.  Played 18 yesterday on a windy day, which, accentuates fades to slices and slices to looking for balls in other fairways.  Shot a 46 on the front and a 40 on the back only because I started keeping the ball in play off the tee.

OH THE FRUSTRATION OF THIS GAME!

LMAO. The longer the club is, the more difficult it is to control the face.  I can't do it with my driver either (yet... hopefully).  Had a great birdie on a Par 5 on the course I played yesterday (320 yd drive, 230yd stinger 7w, 2 putt).  The next 2 drives I hit were duck hooks.  It is what it is lol.

To be fair, I am happier with a push to the other fairway as my miss than I am with this terribad duck hook.  God it's the most frustrating thing fixing the baseball slice and having that turn into the opposite miss.

I am going in to PXG for a full bag fitting tomorrow as I continue to live a charmed golf life. I am going to be putting up my TS1-IMs with Axiom 125X against whatever fits me best at the PXG store. Frankly, I think it is going to be a tough battle for PXG (pun intended) as that part of my bag seems to suit me best. Will update with how it goes but the only downside I have with the TS1-IMs is that they are a little low spinning for me (think 5900-6200 spin with a 7 iron).

To be frank, that is still excellent for a hollow body iron. I don't think any other manufacturer's hollow irons would improve spin from that number personally.  You would have to switch to a CB or MB to get the spin window desired imo.

Not sure what the spin are on my 0211 XCor2's but I have no problem stopping a 7i 145-150 yards on a green to less 10-15 or less feet from the pitch mark depending on the green

They are discontinuing the 0211's with the Black Ops taking their place.

I'm looking at the TS3.5's   Lofts are similar and they look sweet.  Going to go with a mid-launch shaft because I already get high loft, sometimes to a fault.  Yesterday hit an 8i (140-145) into a green over a greenside bunker with 15-20 hurting wind 135 to center of green, 120 carry the bunker.  Got good contact.  Didn't carry the bunker.  Ended up with a Sandy but this was hit beautifully and could have had a birdie putt.

To be clear, my TS1-IMs stop fine. I was just trying to find a nitpick place for them. I am getting this fitting and the clubs on a very very very good deal so it would be crazy to turn it down.

That's why I got the 0211's.  Christmas 2023, Birthday January 2024 my kids got me a fitting and paid for the G-6.  With the hero discount they paid $79/club with MMT 70 R shafts.  Deal was an offer I couldn't refuse.

Certainly didn’t mean that as an insult to you! Just to highlight that a lot of different types of players can benefit from these clubs, and it isn’t just the dumb “Low hcp get blades, high hcp get SGI,” especially when it comes to Maltby. I am a 9 handicap and also play the TS4 and find them affirmatively easier to hit that many more “game-improvement” irons I’ve had in the past. I like being rewarded for a good swing and getting feedback on a bad swing.

I am actually doing the fitting at PXG Charlotte. Part of the deal is I have to get fit in a PXG "store" and not just a studio. Pretty excited but don't mean to derail this thread. I have a Maltby 7W as well as the irons that are going to be "tested."

Truth be told, modern irons are not really blades in the classic sense.  Most are disguised with perimeter weighting, weight distribution, GOG adjustments.  They are polymer or ceramic filled with tungsten weights.  They are all at least game improvement.  I have played this game for 60+ years and seen a lot of evolution.  My first set of irons were 1962 Wilson Staff Dynapower with a sweet spot the size on a pin head.  You really got feedback on those.  With a mishit, your hands would sting for the next 3 holes.  When you hit them flush, it could not feel any better.  I played very well with those for many years and they still have a loving spot in my basement.  I would not dream of trying to play them now.  At my age, if it were not for all the improvements, I would not still be in the game.

I agree that you should play what suits you and especially suits your eye.  If you like the clean blade look, there are plenty of GI choices for you.

I hate the way that tone gets lost behind text. There was no offense taken! I know I suck at golf lol. But the key to improvement in anything is feedback, and these irons give it. Maltby definitely has something for everyone in their lineup. I just liked the look, the price, the standard lofts, and did I mention the looks?

Umm. I don't quite know how to describe these.

Very happy with the build. TS3 with destickered black kbs $ tapers. 54 drt as well.

Definately need to remove the paint infill but not sure whether to go black or green to match the grips (hulk spec!)

They look almost too good to hit but have hit half a dozen with the pw. Very happy with the feel and flight so far.

Flight looks a touch higher and calmer than the ts2, which is what I was hoping for...

I don’t think you can really go wrong. They look sick with the Golf Pride MCC green grips. Glad you’re getting the ball flight you wanted. For the record, my vote is Hulk spec lol. Good luck!

What are everyone's thoughts on Max Milled vs. DRT vs. TSW? Seems like the Max Milled is kind of Vokey K* esque. Curious on which to get in a 54 and 58 for softer Florida conditions.

Anybody else notice that TS4's are pretty resistant to bag chatter? Must be the slightly harder 1025 steel. I've carried mine for 4 rounds now, and not a mark on them.

All my previous sets would start getting dents as soon as I put them in the bag, but all were 1020.

The TS4's are definitely a little firmer, but I'll take the tradeoff if they stay looking good.

DBM.

But, I had a set of Srixon Z965's refinished in black nitride, which I think is the same as DBM?, and they got dinged up very easily.

First 2 swings with ts3 6 iron. No warm up, straight to a good number... they are as forgiving as everyone says, maybe not as long as the ts2 in the short irons but that's probably a good thing.

Drt wedge will take some getting used to after spending a year trying not to dig holes with a tsw! No chunks yet and heaps of spin
