I'm on my 5th set of "10 year irons" in the last 3 years.

I don't think it will get much sweeter than my TS4 DBM tbh.  I played TM Tour Burners for 13 years and just dealt with the misses.  I typically do my research and am satisfied for quite awhile.  Immanent death from the future wife is definitely on the radar as well.

I hear you say that....but not sure in my financial situation I'm ready to take that $600-700 experiment. I think I'm STI2 or maybe spoil myself with TS3's when I get some of my excess bills paid off.

I had the TS3's and loved how they felt but seemed to struggle with consistent contact.  Sold them and switched to the STi2's with the same shafts and I have hit them much better and more consistently.  No regrets on the change and visually the higher toe on the STi2 fits my eye better.  ( Always been a fan of high toe wedges. )

I don't believe that going the STi2 route is a comprise.

I’m really enjoying my TS3 7 iron trial. I like the crisp feel and while I think the Miz 225 is a decently forgiving iron for its size, the TS3 really seems to cover up my misses and is essentially the same size.  Surprisingly, I don’t find the top line to be too chunky.  Anyone looking to unload some TS3 irons or just heads, send me a PM.  I’m not sure I’m ready to make the jump for a new set (or combo with TS4) just yet, but I’d be interested at experimenting with a full bag of used sticks.

The amount of money WRX has cost me since 2007 is insane, but this may be the first time I could actually save money because I’m not sure I would have given Maltby a serious look without this thread.

I got out to swing my new clubs today.  I bought a set of TE+ irons (5-G), a 56 and 60 TSW wedges, KE4 Max driver, 3 and 5 wood.  I can say I like the irons.  I have the score shafts in stiff and they seem to launch well.  I don't think I'm losing much distance from my previous Edge set.  I had Golfworks put on midsize grips.  I have tested a demo club my instructor has and it had that size grip.  I am not 100% convinced I should be using it yet.  I love the way it feels, but all of my shots went to the right.  I need to get them on a launch monitor to get an accurate distance.  I would also like to discuss this with my instructor and see if we need to adjust the clubs by a few degrees.

The 5 wood hits awesome.  I can actually get loft off the deck, and I don't top it much.  The 3 wood I hit well, but still have my slice.  The driver was great.  Love the sound.  It came 1* open, and that was just too much.  I have turned it back to neutral and want to see how that does.  I did have a wicked slice with the driver.

I have a round scheduled for tomorrow, and I am interested to see how I get on with these clubs.  I think there will be an adjustment period, but they will work out in the end.

The TS4s flushed are bonkers.  Serene workability. I’m more confident over the golf ball with them than I’ve ever been.

but I’m also continually left astonished when my thin misses go, not only on line, but nearly full length to target.  Maybe 5-10 yards short. One rolled pin high the other day…….  And we’re talking pretty thin.   Like crepe thin. Did that even catch  bottom groove thin from 150 lol

Thank you MALTBY

The only thing in the back of my mind re: irons right now is…….. do I need  a set of DBM ts4 heads……

Been trying to like and play Maltby heads since the first iteration of the KE4 iron heads. I remember wanting to pull the trigger on the original CER iron heads, but never did.

I have tried the KE4’s, TE, MMB17, DBM, MMB 17 Black (same set twice, and my lowest round ever, -5), KE4 Max, TS1, and TS4. Tried an old Trouble Out wood head. Have an old MG Tour Grind 56* wedge.
Been following this thread since day 1.

Maltby has the best looking gear in years, and at great prices.
I have friends who I have told to buy Maltby irons, and they are enjoying them. I have another friend who has loved and played Maltby irons for years.
And I have zero Maltby heads in the bag.
I just needed to come clean. I feel dirty lurking in here sometimes..😂🏌🏽‍♂️

Before you move forward in your lives together you should have a full disclosure conversation.. but let her think the worst before you tell her about your addiction.

Something like this:

Honey I have to come clean.. I've got a pretty serious addiction that you need to know about and I just want to be completely honest with you because I love you so much and you deserve to know.

Her: ok what is it?

You: I'm too embarrassed to say so maybe you can guess what it is and I can tell you if you guessed it.

Her: umm.. drugs.. hookers.. gambling.. porn.. theft.. serial murder.. ??

You: ok I'll tell you but it's not something I'm proud of.

After she's built up how extremely bad it could be..

You: golf clubs

I'm sure she could only be relieved at that point 😁

Sounds like you’ve been there before.

Had a chance to test some 7-irons on the range today (on a mat) and figured I would share in case helpful.

TS2 w/Fuji Vista Pro (R) — A rocket launcher with a confidence inspiring wide top line. Carried over 175 consistently with range balls. (Heads still for sale in the GW Deals section.)

TS3 w/Aldila NV (S) — Butter soft and a pleasure to hit. My top choice going into the test. But the ball tailed left when my usual miss tails right. Not sure I want to spend the money and time to fix.

STi2 Gen 2 w/Mitsu Kuro Kage (S) — The surprise of the day. Soft forged feel, dead straight, and consistently long enough. Goldilocks top line and didn’t notice the higher toe. For the price/performance, my new favorite.

KE4 Max w/Maltby Pro Series (old version) (R) — Plenty long and straight with a wide top line. A reliable if uninspiring workhorse.

KE4 Max w/TT Score LT (S) — Last season’s gamer. Noticeably heavier after hitting the graphite shafts. Dead straight but low last season. Mid height and tailing right today. (Note: I’ve been working on improving my release.)

Next step: on the course!

Great description of the KE4 Max. And yes the STI2 is a serious sleeper.

I had my first day out with the TE+. I was initially unimpressed with them. But after a round and two range sessions I have changed my mind.

I started out with a range session. Every ball was going right. I never hit right and sometimes have a slight draw. My swing path is 2.5 degrees in to out. I was wondering if it was the midsize grips or the lie. I decided to play a round the next day. During the round it was more of the same thing. Balls going right. The feel was good but I noticed it was a bit sharp on impact. I was not doing my part and was hitting them fat and off of the toe. I did notice they were considerably shorter then my previous edge set. Where i would hit a 9 iron before I was now hitting a 7.

I abandoned the round and decided to go back to the range. I really worked on swing mechanics and started striking them well. All I can say is that feel. I found the forged feel. They were butter smooth. Decent height and distance. I wish I had a monitor to see how far I was actually hitting them. I could hit them dead straight or shoot baby fades.

My hybrid and woods are still going to need some time. I am slicing all of my woods and the hybrid is hit or miss. By the scuff on the bottom of the head it appears I am coming over the top, or torquing the heads. I talked with my instructor after the range session and scheduled a lesson and gapping session. He said for my swing I might have the wrong shaft. I bought kuro kage blacks in the wood and hybrid. I swing 105 on the driver and 85 for a 7 iron. His thought is I am getting too much torque causing an open face. We are going to look into it at the lesson.

Overall I am very happy with the irons and TSW wedges. The amount of spin I get is crazy compared to my previous Callaway edge set. I can see me keeping these clubs for a long time.

Same for me. Hit a thin a** 9i over water to a pin playing 152 on my last round.  Stopped at 5 feet (green is on an upslope).  Probably didn't deserve it, but still got the birdie.

My miss is left, and the amount of drawing punch shots I have been able to hit with this TS4 7i to get me out of trouble is crazy.  Drew one around a tree, kept it low, and rolled one onto the green from around 130 out.  The TS4 really has it all if you are steepish and have the SS to support the higher lofts.

To be fair, it was my best round of all time, but I am excited to grow with these clubs for darn sure.

Unfortunately, we have been together for 12 years, and she knows everything at this point.  I could hide something for 5 maybe, and she also has the golf bug.  Maybe I get her another iron, so I am not getting myself anything.

She's got a solid tour edge ladies petite beginner set with a driver, 3w, 6h, 8i, PW and SW.  I already added a Maltby M890 4h to have something longer than the 6H but shorter than the 3W.  She isn't consistent enough to have a full set just yet, but I cannot wait for the day that she gets there.
