Yes, it has less influence with the higher lofts.  That doesn't mean it has no influence.

If they truly believed that it made no significant difference, then they wouldn't be designing and marketing any of their wedges with these kinds of things...

"The CMC is a very light material that when positioned correctly helps to move mass towards the center of the club face and greatly eliminates typical design shape restrictions due to excessive weight."

"Optimal Mass Placement (OMP) provides stability and improved shots struck towards the toe, a common miss hit on chips and pitches"

Also, any mass removed from the hosel and moved to the toe area has double the effect on horizontal CG. You aren't adding weight, but relocating. Total mass remains the same.

I asked about DRT vs Max Milled…COG.  Since I’m playing Max Milled Wedges.

This is the key statement there...."with the shape and size of most modern wedges and the lengths of the hosels, it is very difficult to the cg in the dead center of the face."

Seems that the basic solution is obvious.  Create a new trend and design a wedge set with shorter hosels.  Then getting the COG in the dead center of the face will be possible.

My one criticism of Britt and his team is they lack Ralph’s innovation. He developed all sorts of different clubheads through the years. The Lob Slider, Sand Putter, Slippery Frog chipper are just the most recent examples. My favorite was the zero offset hybrid. Made the hybrid the easiest club in the bag to hit.

I played the CT250 hybrids forever because they didn't have offset and just looked like tiny fairway woods (although I NEVER understood why they made the hosels .350 🙈).  I have yet to understand how everyone complains about how hybrids only want to go left and yet companies keep putting offset in the hosels like they are irons.  I think my dream club would be a head shaped like the Callaway Apex UW but take out that tiny little bit of kink offset in the hosel.

the wishon new line of hybrids are the closest thing to zero offset that I can find. I really like them for that reason.

The Maltby design looks offset but the leading edge is in line with the hosel. Most are like woods with the leading edge in front of the shaft.

Though not the actual definition of "offset", I've found that most look at the top-line relationship to the front edge of the hosel, when referencing hybrid "offset".

Face progression is the better term

The alignment dot on my 4 hybrid appears to be 1/8" inside of center.  Can anyone confirm if they do this on purpose or if I got a bad one.

img_20250612_125117_365116489902692024.jpg

I recall some in the past doing this intentionally.  Their reasoning at the time was at address you're looking down on it from an angle.  So to make it appear centered, it needed to be slightly inside of center

Shorter hosel wedges seems like the most natural and easy innovation that company could do.  They lead the industry with it for irons, why not wedges.   Just seems so simple to me and there is nothing strange or gimmicky about it

Britt is misunderstanding the issue. He thinks folks are asking about horizontal CG  based on it impacting wedge playability for hitting chips, pitches, and sand shots not full shots. It's as if he doesn't consider the full shot playability as important for a "wedge", implying a sand wedge or lob wedge, because the Maltby set gap wedges have short hosels and face centered CGs. Is hitting full SWs or LWs that unusual?

When you look down at the club at address, the dot will more than likely look like it's dead center.  If you align the dot in the middle, it'll look like it's too far on the toe when you address the club.  The phenomenon behind this is called Parallax distortion.

At the very least, anyone who lays up to a short yardage on par 5's would be hitting fuller higher loft wedges on a regular basis.

I even notice it on short chips and pitches.  Always searching for the sweet-spot on most every shot.  Heck, even with a putter.

i'd say close to 50% of my sw shots are full or close to full. I'd love to see it as well.

absolutely not. Some years ago  I watched a video of el tigre (which is Spanish for the tiger) commenting on how he plays 100 yard shots with his 60.  De-loft, shaft lean,  Back in the stance.  And then I had a eureka moment and  A 60 vokey has become my 100 yard go to. Not going to say I’m throwing darts like the tiger.  But definitely throwin darts. 🎯

That looks like the Wishon EQ1-NX 4hybrid, not the 797HS. Both solid designs, the 797HS is slim in the face to back measurement, yet taller face and more face progression than the EQ1.

I stand corrected, just noticed the white first groove.  Built many of these, great sound at impact. Nobody can just have one.

A .350" hosel allows both .335 and .350 shafts.  Whereas a .335 hosel only allows .335 shafts.

Just like with irons/wedges.  A .370 hosel allows both .355 and .370 shafts.....,but a .355 hosel only allows .355 shafts

It's a hybrid though, not a wood or iron. The only clubs that required .350 tips back then were OEM driver shafts. No one made a .350 hybrid shaft except golfworks (proprietary design). Almost every hybrid shaft on the market is either .370 or .355 taper like an iron would take and neither would fit.

There were maybe two hybrid shafts that I can remember that were .335, one was a UST V2 and the other was the Wishon designs to help increase launch angle. You wouldn't take a regular 46" wood shaft and cut it down to say a 39"-40" hybrid playing length.

From distant memory, I thought I recalled that the CT250 "hybrids" were more like utility woods, with head weights that accommodated lengths more like 7 and 9 woods?

GW and Golfsmith were in competition and both had a .350 line in the ct250 and HiCor....and I do believe the hicor hybrid was .350.  I still have one and would have to measure/double check.  I suspect this was just some sort of response to the OEM .350 models that were being made.  Both were very popular and successful lines.  I believe there was a Snake Eyes model or two that were .350.

The use of .350 in wood shafts had to do with weight distribution although I don’t remember how exactly. I used a .335 Penley Tour Light in a CT 18* hybrid. When I didn’t overswing I killed that club. Mostly I overswung and hit way right.lol
