I’ve seen a lot of talk of these RT shafts here. I haven’t really thought about it…but that’s a good price.

To any of you who have or do play the 105S, how do they compare to any of the major shafts such as dynamic golds or modus3?

I was surprised to s.ee them listed as high launch and that concerns me. As well as the lower weight.
I currently play fst 125 pro in X and I have no issues hitting the ball high already.

My opinion FWIW--  THe RT shafts are really good.   I play them in a R- flex and I have been S-flex forever.   THey stand up to a hard swing well.  The S+...  I would never try--- I would use them for a younger STRONG golfer.

I am more and more convinced that weight is not as important in iron shafts as I once believed..

I may be alone in that belief.

Received the new 5 wood a few days ago with the Maltby pro shaft and have to say that I really love the club after two nine hole rounds. I do, however, have a predicament. The 5 wood has a nice lofted 235 yard flight. The 7 wood with the kuro kage shaft has a piercing flight that comes off the face like a piss middle and ends up almost the exact same distance. I was scratching my head until I measured them and found out that the 7 wood shaft is actually a half inch LONGER than the 5 wood. When ordering these clubs (fully assembled) from Maltby, I requested standard length. The only modification I made was to increase the 7 wood swing weight to D0. Would this be a reason for them to cut the shaft so long? I believe there is a weight in the shaft of the 7 wood because it has come loose and slides around in the club (kind of annoying but not a huge deal). The 7 wood always felt long but I just figured it to be how newer woods are as my old woods were from the early 2000’s.

Is this longer 7 wood shaft totally on me or should I try to get in touch with golfworks to see if they can help me out? Ideally I’d order a new max driver with the Maltby pro DR shaft and have them send me a new Maltby pro fairway wood shaft cut to the correct 7W length with an adapter installed so I can swap. This would give me matching driver, 5w, and 7W. Alternatively I can swap the shafts between the 7 and 5 as is and just game two different shafts playing 1/2” longer than standard (I’m 6’ so 1/2” shouldn’t make a huge difference). Ultimately I can’t understand why they would build the 7 wood so long when I requested standard length. Pictures attached but note I measured from the top of the hosel adapter. From there to the bottom of the club is 2.75” so I added that to the measurement for final lengths. Thanks all for your help. Maltby makes some great clubs and I am very happy with the performance of these woods!

I would call up Golfworks in the morning. They can pull up your order and see how the club was built. Golfworks standard playing lengths, the 5 wood should be 1/2” longer when you set them both on the ground in the playing position.
The 7 wood shaft should also be tipped 1/2” more than the 5 wood. You can tell that by matching up the graphics on both shafts.
The rattling you hear is probably a piece of epoxy in the shaft that came loose. Unless the head weight is loose…

I'm considering a Maltby DBM model again.  For those who have hit/played various DBM models, what is your take on the

feel/sound of them ?  Earlier ones seemed to be a bit too firm/clicky to me and others versus the alternate satin version.

I'm mostly interested in the TS4 or TS3.  Thanks for any  feedback you care to share.

I don't have a real comparison to other DBM models or forged irons other than more maltbys, but my TS4 are like butter or like I hit nothing on flushed shots.  They provide much more feedback than my previous GI irons on mishits.  Compared to my buddies regular TS4s they do sound a touch more clicky, but I also have no noticeable bag chatter where his are showing a touch of wear.

I love my TS4 DBMs so damn much, but your mileage may vary.

I put a mini driver in the bag this weekend, and results were very promising. Mishits are longer and straighter than they are with a full size driver, and good strikes are nearly the same.

Man I am heavily considering one of these when the embargo on new golf clubs in the house is finished.  Fiancée would have my head if I got one now lol.  I think its time to go get a driver lesson to be honest.  The other clubs have been pretty darn consistent minus the putter recently.

Almost everything unreleased has been given a late September date due to tariff issues from what I have seen on the GW forum.  Still patiently awaiting my S grind DRT DBM 58* lmao.

The problem is that with the mini, my 4 wood is somewhat redundant, so I now have to get a 5 wood. It never ends. 🤣

The 4W, 7W combo was just due to me loving my 7w out of my 23 year old Knight Connexion starter set.  My whole group minus my fiancée play Maltby clubs lol.  We got one on the TS2, and 2 sets of TS4 (one satin, one DBM).  The lady has a Maltby 4H though to make up for it.

You should have seen my GW during my warmup 15 balls 😅 Straight toe strikes, but still had good results!  Really looking forward to seeing what these more forgiving clubs do for my game (been playing blades for a while, I was playing every weekend but then we had a baby and that was that)

I see you have the new generation Aldila NV shafts in them.  Have you played that shaft yet?  Comments?  I got a bunch of the prior generation NV shafts (same specs) at a close out price based entirely on the price but haven't put them in anything yet.

I have used the R+ and they are as stout as any S shafts I've used.  Robin Arthur told me the R+ plays more like Stiff and S+ plays more like TS or X.

I soft stepped the RT 105 R+ in the TS1-IM and it felt as stable if not more so than the Recoil 110 F4 I have used in my other irons.  The Maltby irons do have a BBGM nearly 1/2" less than my other irons so that could be part of it too.  I am not a big hitter though, 8i ~ 150 yards, so others may disagree.

I think they feel pretty good.  I haven't played them on the course yet, just a range session on mats.  My Cobra blades have Elevate Tour 95 shafts with VSS inserts and these clubs feel pretty similar as far as total weight and swingweight (the Maltbys were built to standard iron shaft length).  They maybe feel a little stiffer - but these are some basic thoughts from someone that doesn't have golf clubs in his hands every day getting intimately familiar with how they feel.

At 19.99 per for the 105 shafts I probably should have bought more.

Now you inspired me and I just bought:

3 rapid taper 115S wedge

2 Avalon 7 TS

1 Avalon 7 S

1 Avalon 6 TS

I have no idea why really, I don’t even build clubs… yet.

If I don’t end up liking them, I’ll be selling them as blanks at some point.

I’ve never played most versions of the NV in woods and irons. The iron version is virtually identical to the past version of the MPF. I found it much stiffer in the 85 and 95 versions than almost any other graphite iron shaft.

Avalon 6 is a good shaft if you have the swing speed for it. Avalon 7 nice shaft that would work for most people.

Can definitely tell the TE+ has a thicker topline, but the offset looks to blend very similarly.  Looks like TE+ is a great long iron option to blend with TS4.

It really doesn't, but it's hard to measure a rounded topline.

I just took a caliper to try and measure them. The TS4 upper blade is flat on the face and backside, so the topline is the thickness of the blade.

With the TE+, the backside of the topline moves towards the back of the sole, before stopping at the cavity. Yes, it's thicker about 1/8" down on the backside, but the actual topline is nearly identical. I placed the faces flat on a board, with the toplines butting together, and they are really the same thickness. But yes, I can see how one would perceive the TE+ to be thicker. But imo, it's not thicker at all.
