It really doesn't, but it's hard to measure a rounded topline.

I just took a caliper to try and measure them. The TS4 upper blade is flat on the face and backside, so the topline is the thickness of the blade.

With the TE+, the backside of the topline moves towards the back of the sole, before stopping at the cavity. Yes, it's thicker about 1/8" down on the backside, but the actual topline is nearly identical. I placed the faces flat on a board, with the toplines butting together, and they are really the same thickness. But yes, I can see how one would perceive the TE+ to be thicker. But imo, it's not thicker at all.

Understood on the measurements, but it looks thicker and that's really all that matters.  And in my opinion it's a good thing when blending in some long irons as it breeds a bit of confidence on harder to hit clubs.  Plus, it's so subtle that it blends really well, at least based on the photo I was replying to.

I'm considering a Maltby DBM model again.  For those who have hit/played various DBM models, what is your take on the

feel/sound of them ?  Earlier ones seemed to be a bit too firm/clicky to me and others versus the alternate satin version.

I'm mostly interested in the TS4 or TS3.  Thanks for any  feedback you care to share.

I am VERY sensitive to feel, so keep that in mind….I love the look of the DBM finish, but find it too harsh feeling for my taste, and notably firmer than the satin finish. The iron heads and wedges I’ve built for myself and others the satin feels forged and identical head in DBM feels like a cast version of the same club TO ME.  I built a set of DBM ts4 for a friend and he absolutely loves the feel, but he’s coming from a set of Pings and prefers a crisper feel. I recommend building a 7 iron in each to determine which fits your feel, fantastic irons. I ended up with TS1-Ms, which for me provided best combo of forgiveness, feel, consistency and look.

I agree on feel of DBM finish. I have a set of both satin and DBM PTM iron heads and the DBM feels noticeably firm and clicky..when I got the TS-4 DBM to complement my satin ones noticed the same thing as well. I like a soft mushy feel on my irons as a firm feel feels like I mishit the ball..soft mushy means flushed..hence I have gone back to the satin version. But as you can see from my post above, they wear much worse than the DBM does...

Just did a refresh build with my TS4. Impulse buy of some KBs tour white shafts with blue labels as I remember loving that look over 15 yrs ago when I had a set. It has been interesting to see how the extra shaft weight 120 really smooths out my swing compared to the 105 and 95 shafts I usually use. Will see how long the honeymoon phase lasts. Some pics….also bought some rapid taper 105s so the journey will continue…ps I know GW ferrule doesn’t match but just didn’t have enough for build. Might get some more from Golfworks in future to make it match.

The milled soles on the TS4s  🤌🏼

That color combo you have going is spot on.

nice ping pong table.  What paddle is that?! I play a killerspin

To continue the 300 mini driver chatter……  the precision for me off the tee is absolute quality.  And nearly same length as driver, just much tighter dispersion (could be the archer lol)  The smaller head suits my eye very well.

Thanks! It’s a small size table for the kids with our limited space and when they were younger. Now it is a staging  mg he area for all my excess golf stuff! Butterfly paddle.
I am tempted to try my mini driver back out on the course.

I am in the same camp.    I can't forego the feel of the satin for the "Cool" look of the DBM.    It is certainly a good thing to have both choices..

Hell I wanna build another set of satin clubs just because they also look great!

It is great to have choices and I wonder why other OEMs don't use any finishes as durable as the Maltby DBM.  I guess it's planned obsolescence, get beat up and make buyers want to buy more.

Not to be a party pooper but I played an Avalon 5 TS for a few months in my driver. 110mph Club Head Speed and it ended up snapping over by back on a mild swing. I thought it performed pretty well but not sure how high quality the graphite used is.

Thanks for the feedback.  Over the years, I've also been too sensitive to feel/sound of irons (and drivers).  I was hoping the

TS4  was a different animal as to the DBM finish.  Love the finish, so I had high hopes.  The search goes on.....

I have a PTM-5+/Black Matte shaft drying along with a TS4 6I and a TC IST 5Hybrid as an experiment.

The PTM is absolutely gorgeous in person.

not surprising it being a ultralight shaft the wall thickness isn’t very beefy.

I have used a few other light shafts that have been able to handle the same swings so far without issue. Diamana ZF 40x, Aldila Rogue Elite Blue 55x, Ventus Black 5x, Tensei Blue 55x.

So its been forever since ive been able to play. But the TC Pro IST 3 and 6 are money. Paired up the the RTI 105 S shaft. The 6 has been quite a shock. I was really concerned that I wouldn't be able to stop the ball on the green.

Every shot has stopped within a few feet. Nice high trajectory and easy to work either way. Nice crisp feel on contact. Very satisfying feel.

The 3 at 20° has done as expected. No real surprise there. Its just a work horse that gets you close on those 200-205 ish shots.

Looking forward to grabbing the 4 and 5 and adding them to the bag.

what black matte shaft is that, double bend? or is the center shafted putter head?

Sorry this is the center shafted putter head. I bought the Pak that comes with the Golfworks Black Matte shaft. I believe it’s MA1010-BLK.

F**k me. Just when I had been happy with my Mavrik driver, 0211 5 wood, and Wilson Staff D9 forged irons for a couple months, I see the KE4 TC pro woods and new Gen 2 STI2 irons.

Even the TC Pro hybrid is calling my name.

I always said if they made an STI3 that looked better than the STI2, I would go back to Maltby.

They did better and just made it look nicer.

How do I explain to my wife that I need new clubs after just having a newborn?

You can probably sell the D9’s for more than the STi2’s.

Any thin walled driver shaft can easily be compromised when getting clamped for a grip. With that said... there were quite a few production runs of question. Factories willing to work with Robin had dwindled over the years. So did the quality.  After covid the factory making the Avalon i8 and i9 had lost a number of workers. Thier replacements couldn't duplicate the shaft at all. Sprinkle that across the work force and things got shoddy.

The Rapid Tapers were always an extremely high quality. The engineer who designed the windings guraded that secret well. So well, not even Robin knows the pattern.

So making a high quality golf shaft often has guarded secrets so the factories can protect themselves from the constant stealing of designs  so rampant in the Chinese factories.  So, having to change factories doesn't always go so well.

But... there is no more Xcaliber. Its ceasing to exist.

How does the profile/face height compare to the 775hs?

I had the 4h on order but cancelled. They’re backordered. Same for the 5 and 7w. I play the 775hs and really love it but wanted to see the Maltby. Maybe this winter. The 775hs is a perfect hybrid for me.
