The issue is that an operation like TXG is not truly interested in "promoting" or bringing attention to a component company.  They won't come out and say this of course

But they have reviewed Sub 70, Haywood, Ben Hogan being relatively "non biased". They may not be perfect but awareness would go quite a ways. Their Club Champion affiliation may have more concerns with even allowing them but I they seem to be fairly straight shoots and talk good and bad about most clubs.

Yea, Fit2YouGolf is his YT channel.  He had a hip replacement.  The last review he did was Maltby Max Milled Wedge in January and he said he would be doing a KE4 Max review soon.  I guess as soon as the weather breaks where he is located.

He actually lives about 10 minutes from me in north east Pa

What's in it for them?

Their, and others, model has always been “If you send it to us, we’ll test it.” Thats how the dtc brands appear on the channel.

what’s in it for TXG? Club reviews bring views, views bring $ and new customers.

and Britt has said repeatedly he knows that route is an avenue to more marketing/exposure/sales, but isn’t interested at this time.

i don’t think there is more to it than that.

A while back when I was hoping TXG would review the Rapid Tapers I sent Mike @ TXG some spin wedges and the new 105. He went crazy for them. Mike actually hit a Rapid Taper from a fitter up in Canada. It was a wow for him. He wrote a PM that he wanted some to tinker with. So I gladly sent him some figuring it would lead to a review.

But Ian refused to do a review because of Robin's incredibly sketchy past. I always thought there may have been a bit more to the story. But he REALLY wanted nothing to do with them.  Still Mike was a huge fan. But that's old news.

Anyways he had also mentioned what he thought about the Maltby gear. How they seemed cosmetically unfinished. And how he had no interest in ever doing any testing with them either.

So basically it's not as easy as just sending someone some gear to test. There are a lot of influences and biased thoughts.  Some real  some imaginary.

I've created some content here and there for IG and it's a lot of work. Writing reviews and posting data is one thing. Doing video content is entirely different. Plus there really is little to no financial gain.

Here goes:

Comparing the Maltby offering of 7irons I have on hand TS1, TS3, PTM, and TE(6i). I also put the MP-33(6i) in as Lob Wedge for reference. View the data below for full details from my R10 with RCT balls. (obviously only 6 shots rotating club every 3 shots, also similar but not the same shafts)

Feel:

Honestly the best feeling of the bunch was TS3 & TE they were very close but both felt solid and soft. Multiple of each I barely felt the ball. 3rd place would go to the TS1 and PTM in 4th not sure why just slightly clickier to me. Comparing all to the MP33 was hard because well I could not find the middle today. from memory I would call the MP33 smoother when I find the center. I am a steep player so I usually need a little more sole which i think the TS3 would provide but I'm hitting off a mat so that is something ill have to test on grass.

Aesthetics:

This is personal preference obviously but I do really enjoy Maltby's recent styling. From overall winner is probably the TS1s but I'm a bit biased playing them for the last 2 years. They have the best blend of thin top line, offset, and minimal back graphics. I would put TS3 in second and TE & PTM wash at 3rd they each have their own benefits, I like the TE at address and PTM from behind.

Performance:

All of them performed well. Going by Numbers below I think TS3 performed the best with the Distance, Speed, Spin, and Apex I'm currently looking for. I cut across the ball and generate a lot of spin. the TE had the best dispersion but was high spinning and lower distance for a 6i. The PTM had great dispersion too but again the apex and spin let it down in my book.

Overall:

I feel like these are all good clubs I think the TS3 is a blend of the TE & PTM. The sole and shaping of the TE with the aesthetics and lofts of the PTM. I may need to consider transitioning over to TS3s or wait until the TS4s are out and find a beautiful combo set.

I'm pretty sure the custom shop is hiring.

Think you might be right. When I was out there last spring, I feel like there was some signage about open jobs.

Actually have something I'm working on with another member. And GW has been in the back of my mind for a possible "down the road" pitch/partnership.

They're coming. I've seen the protos, and from what I remember they will be slightly longer blade length and more modern lofts with similar (thin) topline and nearly identical offest to current. However, as mentioned here, with the workload Golfworks is currently experiencing it'll likely be a while.

I built a set of those for my wife 20 years ago.  She still plays them!   Can't her to upgrade

Yep, CER was their budget line sold under the Golfworks umbrella rather han Maltby, but really nice heads.  I built a set of CER's for my grandson when he was in high school.  They had an MPF of 895.  Pretty good even by today's standards.

Great review but this part leads to a question. I was hoping the TS3 sole would be an improvement on the TE, as I agree with others that it can dig on the steeper player. Other reviews have suggested the sole is more like the TS2.

Could you please provide more thoughts on this?

I’ll try to post some side by side TS2 and TS3 so you can see the difference. It’ll be later on this evening

So I have never played a TS2 so cant quite compare there, but the sole width itself is the same for the TE,TS3 & TS2 0.78in. I was hitting off a mat so I couldn't really tell how turf interaction. I believe some have mentioned there is a bit more of a V shape on the TS3 but I couldn't visually tell that.

I was expecting the ts3 to launch higher and spin more given it's lower cog.

I think a low COG launches higher with less spin, at least in drivers.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I feel I get pretty good spin out of my TS2's, and they have a higher COG.  So that would check out.

Definitely not the case with the TE Forged, launches higher and had more spin.  There may be other things at play with TS3 (vs. TE)....so far it's a really small sample size!

Re: the TS2, I could not get them to spin enough no matter the shaft I tried and gave up on them. Ball flight was noticably flatter and I struggled to hold greens with them.  I loved everything else about them so I was hopeful that the TS3 would play somewhere between the TE and TS2 but early signs are not looking like it's the case.

What you are talking about here is a difference in loft.

No it's not.  I've been playing stronger lofted clubs for years and holding greens just fine.  Including the same lofted TE vs same lofted TS2.  There is something else going on between those two designs! IMO they are polar opposites.

It could be turn interaction leading to differing strikes. The sharper sole of the TE producing a lower (i.e. better) strike, and producing better spin. Hard to say. Typically lower cg = higher launch, lower spin, so I doubt it's CG influence.

Look of the club could also have you delivering it at impact differently

There may be other factors for sure! TE is easily the highest launching / flight / spinning iron I've ever played....I had a duel that year between the Wishon 560MC and TE, same shaft, same grip, same weight.  TE high floaty/spinny flight.  560MC were what I would call normal flight/spin.  Lofts are almost identical other that 0.5* in the PW and 1* in the GW with the the TE being stronger.  TE definitely NOT a low spin iron.

Various evidence suggests the hollow clubheads produce less spin than the classic CBs that lack the face flexing to produce speed.  My guess is your spin issues are due to this.
