There was a guy in the 2023 Maltby thread who posted pics of a TC Max he'd purchased. IIRC, so far he really liked it.

Yea I've seen a couple people say they've hit a couple balls with it and like it but that's about it.

I was looking at this vs a Radspeed or TEE E722, doubt I'll see that comparison anywhere though 🤣

Yeah. I'd say it's highly unlikely anyone is doing that comparison.

FWIW, I have hit the non-Max version. Guy in my league has one. Liked it quite a bit. And didn't feel I'd be giving up anything if I were to use it instead of my SIM max.

Does anyone play the MPF Pro Series shafts? Was looking to experiment with the fairway versions for my 3 wood as I've heard very good things about them. Driver SS is ~110, but I've been reading the FW shafts play stiff to flex so would the stiff hold up at this speed with or without a little extra tipping?

From what I gather, this a mid bend profile shaft, but is it comparable to any other popular shafts I might be more familiar with?

Fwiw, looking for a little higher launch and spin for a pxg proto 3 with tensei av raw 75x.

I’m not familiar with those other two shafts, I can compare it to the various versions of the NV and the MPF shafts are plenty stout to flex. My driver club speed is 112, I’d put the MPF between the NV and NVS as far as launch

Which AV Raw? They have White, Orange, and Blue.

I don't know what the profile is of the Pro Series shafts are, but mid bend profiles are typically the "blue" shafts from different OEM shaft manufacturers. Blueboard, Tensei Blue, Aldila tour Blue, Graphite Design DI, along those lines.

At 110 driver speed, you are borderline stiff - X stiff, so I think you would be right in the range for stiff with this line, from what I have read, and depending on how you swing and load a shaft. It would be a pretty cheap experiment.

Appreciate the replies. Also, to clarify it's an Av raw white 75x. Feels great but is definitely a high bend profile and works excellent off the tee but launches a bit low off the fairway for me. I'll probably give the Maltby pro FW a try then, especially if it fits between the NV and NVS profiles as that's the window I'm after.

Still interested to hear other opinions from those who have played this shaft in any of the other flexes.

First coat is in.  2nd coat and touch up will go in tonight.  Ever since I saw this club, I just thought that logo needed some red paint.

I have an iron one in my driving iron, cut to stiff. I'm hitting 105-108 clubhead with my driving iron and it feels really solid in the swing and at impact. I don't think that it needs to be tipped more for that swing speed but you should be playing the most flexible shaft that still returns the club to square at impact. It's honestly my favourite shaft in my bag, love the way it feels loading and releasing. I like to call it a poor man's Tensei Blue and it even has the same MPF rating as the Tensei Blue, I have a Tensei Blue in my Callaway 3w and have great success with it. I'm considering putting one of the UL into my driver to test an ultra light shaft and I'll probably get the TS4 irons with them when those come out. The shafts are as good as the heads.

Spent some more time with the KE4 TCMax. A bit underwhelmed.

Felt great but really couldn't get it going. Actually wasn't really sure where on the face I was hitting it. Feeling never really changed. Good shot or bad.  I want to throw a few shafts at it and see if there is a better combo.

The big standout has been the Stealth 2 so far. Both the driver and the 3 wood are monsters.

Not Maltby specific, but figured I'd add a follow-up to the recent discussion around feel. Specifically in regard to the impact sound has on how feel is perceived.

The weather finally got nice enough to make a trip to the range this weekend. All winter I've been hitting balls at home with my new set of irons (Rogue ST Pro that I got for a great deal). While they didn't feel bad at home. They definitely didn't feel as good as the blades they're replacing. Nor even quite as good as the TS1 7 iron I'd been testing throughout last year.

Outdoors, they "felt" significantly better. Zero difference in ball striking. Just purely from the sound change due to the environment.

Really liking these irons. Yet I haven't abandoned the prospect of bagging the TS1-IM when it drops. Just couldn't delay gratification on a new set while I waited.

Definitely still picking up a TS1-IM for testing as soon as it's available. Will be really interesting to see how it stacks up against the ST Pro. And will be sure to share the details here if anyone is interested.

It's kind of funny/weird how none of the prominent youtubers review Maltby gear. They seem fine to do all the other dtc brands but not Maltby! Here we just had the launch of a gorgeous iron suitable for many players, at a competitive price point, and crickets from the youtube gallery.

Because there is no money in it - the youtuber target audience only want to drink the cool-aid from the majors.

Ralph Maltby and Tom Wishon may well be the smartest blokes in the business, and virtually nobody has heard of them, they deserve/deserved way more airtime.

Golfworks is essentially a wholesale supplier to clubmakers, thats their primary market.  Every clubmaker on the planet knows about Golfworks, there is no real competition, so no brand recognition is further necessary, there is no need for them to go to any expense or otherwise to promote social media influences income.

We Maltby fanatics really dont want golfworks to get bigger, that will drive change and the will lose the culture that they have that we like so much.

p.s.  Britt said that its kind of on their radar to do their own social media but its not a priority.

On further testing, on a large sample size (50 shots with each), TS-3 launches about 1.5* higher for me than TS-1 with ~400rpm less spin… which makes sense considering the design.

TS3 spins less than TS1, loft for loft and same shafts?

I’m surprised.  I figured the power construction would spin less.

Wondering if I should pull the trigger on the TS3s or wait for the TS4s (think I saw late May or June availability).

Anyone have thoughts on how much the TS4s will play from a forgiveness perspective, perhaps based on prior MB experience from Maltby. Seems like they will be packing quite a bit of tech into the TS4s, which might help in that department. I’m a 5hc, and pretty decent ball striker. I like the looks of the TS4s, but if there is a big advantage in forgiveness in the TS3s I would just go that direction.

Mostly I would base that decision on whether you are a digger or a sweeper. If you sweep the ball the TS4 might be for you. If you need some forgiveness then a mixed set may be best.

But still it's a guess. The TS4 should be at a minimum as forgiving as the MMB-17. Which was an easy club to play if you picked it clean.

Curious how the ts3 compares spin wise to other irons you have played.....in general is it lower than all the others, etc?   TIA

It's 'low', but totally playable, it's not like I'm hitting knuckles. I said before off a mat I look for ~5800-6400 rpm with a 7i, knowing I'm going to be closer to 6500-6900 off a fairway. The below is is with a pro v1x (rct).

if you like how the ts-3 performs and feels i would suggest it’s probably an iron I would re-test a few different balls with to see what hits the launch and spin windows I was after.

What would you guys say constitutes being a sweeper or digger in terms of angle of attack? I play on firm-ish conditions during the summer and don't take overly large divots. My AOA with a 7 iron consistently ranges in the -4* to -5* range. I've played Z745's for years with no issues from the V-sole. Just curious where my AOA technically puts me in the sweeper or digger department.

Neutral. Id say sweeper is when you start getting higher than -2*, and digger when you get lower than -6* - but thats just my generalization. In between there you can get along with a lot of different sole shapes.

I only pay attention to AOA on my driver but I'm routinely at -3or-4. I'm steep into the ball with my irons but usually don't lay the sod over the ball. I strike the ball very well. The new wave of irons are extremely turf friendly. The Malby sole is a 4 way radius. It's about as friendly as it gets. The TS4 has the narrowest sole and a modest sized rocker.

So to me that's about the only offering that will be turf sensitive to a digger.

My .02.
