Does the Ts-3 have a medallion/badge in the cavity or is that milling?

The M logo and "TS3" are badges.  Majority of cavity has a sandblasted look (no badge).

the sound of bag chatter, along with the sound you used to hear from metal spikes on cement were sounds that were music to my ears.

The worst hack in the world sounded like a tour pro when walking on concrete with metal spikes on...  Reminds me of golfing with my dad and his buddies way back when.

Thanks guys, I wanted to make sure if it was a stamping covered by a full cavity badge or 2 little badges on a sandblasted cavity so thanks for the clarification. I’m looking to buy a new set of irons for my 60th and I find it interesting that the only 2 irons I want to try and will listen to all feedback on are this TS-3 and the Miura 302 (well the next gen of the Apex Pro too if Callaway finally decides to do it justice). That company says a lot for the potential homerun this iron could be for Maltby. I look forward to Popeye’s and others detailed reviews.

I recall seeing that there will be a DBM+ and TE+ coming out in the future. Sounds like stronger lofts but no significant redesign? Has Maltby come out and said whether that will effectively end of life the current versions? Thinking about picking up a set at 35/head vs the likely ~50ish assuming they will be priced similarly to the other recent releases.

The recent heads seem to be more expensive due to the co-forged tungsten.  If the TE+ and DBM+ don't have tungsten they might be more like $35 to $40 instead of $55 per head.  I like the TS3 a lot, but I don't think it's $20 per head better than the DBM.

Huge fan of these. Had a chance to see them this Winter and I'm not good enough for em but I may stimulate the local economy and have Kris amd the guys build a set anyway. Looking at the description of 5x forged and very little polishing it may be safe to safe they build golf clubs the way some others do, period. Oh, now we just need to see the TE+ and DBM+

It appears to be a tiny medallion. It feels metallic but I doubt it's Milled.

so in theory it could come out/off ?

I would think so. If it's anything like the OG TS1 badge, it feels like the medallion is almost glued in there and could be removed.  No idea what's behind it though.

I personally like the subtle badge with no color fill. So I'd leave it alone.

The M and TS3 badges could come out.  But then there'd be an empty circle and rectangular shape, which would look odd.  It's a super clean design as is.

eh, I might remove it and color fill ala a scotty newport or something similar. I like to minimize branding as much as possible.

This was after the first coat.  2nd coat I was able to get the space completely filled in out to the edges and got it to dry pretty flat.  2108835225_5iron2.jpg.b745c0246248673cc61cb846bd1c721e.jpg

I haven't seen the cobras durability but they sure sound like the Maltby DBM coating.

https://www.golfdigest.com/story/cobra-forged-tec--forged-tecx-black-irons--what-you-need-to-know

Interestingly cobra can do it on a 2 piece hollow body iron with foam.

I cant read that article - its for USA audience only.

according to https://www.golfdiscount.com/custom-cobra-2023-king-forged-tec-x-black-irons

"The KING Forged TEC-X Black irons feature a limited-edition dark finish. This raw finish will wear over time and can rust, which is considered normal and has no impact on performance."

The Maltby DBM does not wear and does not rust,  definitely not the same.

It would be interesting to see a test looking at those different aspects.

Which will bloody well never happen.  LOL

There is floating around somewhere a video with Paul Wood from Ping that touches on this.  Ping found that experienced players preferred the smaller heads because they could make micro-corrections.  At least that is how I recall it.

he posted that today on the ralphmaltby forum, in regards to the ts1-im... does that mean these paks are an oops or just preorders?

will be interesting to see how the perform with a $70 difference between the im's and the takomo 101's with "better" shafts.

Have you looked at the Takomo's in person?   I am curious how they look at address.  I recently tested out some newish irons vs my TS-1s and they look like shovels compared to the Maltby.  Srixon zx7, Srixon Z blades, and New Level 623...just seemed huge comparatively.  I couldn't believe the size of the Z forged.  They felt pretty good.   The Takomo tech looks pretty interesting but have a feeling they will be a big, havent seen any side by side comparisons.  These TS 1s may have spoiled me on looks and performance.

I may just need to wait for the new Maltby offerings.

Can anyone share a pic of the kuro Kage gen2 iron shaft (graphite shaft golfworks offers in its pack) with the lettering in down position, can’t find any pics of this shaft online in this orientation, curious as to what graphics on other side of shaft look like since that will be what is visible at address, thanks

How would the TS2 or ts1 compare to say the p770 or the Mizuno hot metal 921? Or would there be another maltby iron that compares to either one?

i found the Mizuno stupidly easy to hit but didn’t spin well, the p770 was not as easy to hit but far more rewarding when hit well. The Mizuno almost seemed too long. I was reaching 7 iron out to almost 200 with roll out due to the low spin but I’m not sure that that’s something I want As a 7 iron was only spinning about 33-3700 Any recommendations?

The TS1 has a lower Actual Vertical COG, which would promote some more spin.  The TS3 is even lower.  You're basically hitting 'flyers' with that Mizuno.

excuse my ignorance but what do the TS3 compare to for those that have hit them? I had the TS2's and liked them ok but just a bit too chunky for my likes. Currently using New Level 902 but loved the feel and performance of the TS2's.

When you describe them as "chunky", what details are you referring to?

short squat irons with huge topline. I really liked their performance but want to get away from hollow body irons. I like the look of the ts1's but want a bit more forgiveness. would love a bit more spin as well as I'm a very low spin player. I'm a sweeper and my miss is low. 12 handicap with iron play of a single, driver play of a 36. lol.

Definitely not chunky by your definition.  Looks wise, they're like a slightly beefed up TE Forged.

Are you putting down that sort of spin numbers with other irons as well? What is your driver swing speed? What flex and style of iron shaft did you have in that 7 iron?
