Of the two I find the DRM easier to open. The Pure rocker sole of the Max Milled tends to raise the leading edge a bit. As a design more geared to the high handicapper {Max Milled) few players will try to manipulate the face on tight lies. They usually step up and make a simple chip.

Awesome! Thanks for the info!

The TS4 is one awesome looking straight billet forged. Might have to order a 6 iron head.
I wonder if the TS4 will gradually replace the MMB. I have a set of MMB and they perform well.
In fact I like the gap head MMB so much it’s my go to club around the greens. I do enjoy the older loft settings. MMB gap is around 51 degrees for me.

For a long time, there have been a lot of complaints about the look of Maltby irons and the inserts in the backs.  Some tried to remove them or remove the paint fill.  Now they have really made some clean looking irons.  I was watching some golf ads today and notice an opposite trend in some OEM irons.  The Callaway Paradym, Cobra Aerojet, TM Stealth, Ping G430, Wilson Dynapower, XXIO etc. have filled the backs with plastic stickers that remind me of some of the older Maltby irons.

Ok I got a few drying last night, so will have to wait until tomorrow to test. However, in the mean time, here are some pics comparing the og TS1 9i to the IM, and the og TS1 to the TS4 GW. I am really happy that golfworks/maltby still offer set gap wedges. It seems like no one does anymore. But as someone who, at least, for the time being, prefers a more compact, traditional head in the wedges, it's great to have the option. In the pics, the matte is the new club, the chrome is the old. Visually, that's the main distinction at address, and then the hosel in the TS1 case. Also, as you can see, the TS4s are much thinner on the upper half. Note that there're various distortions due to perspective.

I have attached a pdf that compares the loft and offsets of the Maltby TS line of irons.

I also just finished a set of 5-P TS3 heads in KBS TGI 80 .370 shafts.  They are really REALLY nice.  The feel on a well struck shot is outstanding!

The TS1-IM 9 iron was ready to go an hour ago, so I took it to the range for testing. I can say that it plays very similarly to the OG TS1s, which IMO is a good thing, since many of us had some success with the OGs. While there is a subtle qualitative difference in sound and feel between the two, it is not really a matter of softer or harsher, at least not obviously so, more just that each has an individual character. Perhaps the IMs are just a bit quieter, but not dramatically so. I will say that subjectively I would give the nod in sound/feel to the IMs if you pressed me on it. Ball flight was similar. I love it, and the IMs will replace the OGs in the main bag. I will likely keep the OGs for a backup/travel set though. I'll report on the TS4s tomorrow.

Definitely VERY interested to hear your thoughts on the TS4. If I were in yours and a few other's shoes who have these both, I'd be feeling the pressure and excitement to get the word out as quickly as possible.. you are carrying a heavy

responsibility my friend 😜.

One request would be to have you post top line and sole pics of the OG TS1, IM, and TS4.

I played the TS1 for nearly 3 years and like many, enjoyed every swing. I am really leaning towards the TS4 just because I'm thinking a change might be nice.. the TS1 IMs look absolutely stunning too but it sounds like the performance difference might be too subtle from the OG?

Can't wait to read your experience and comparison of the 3 clubs.

Hello. I am a new member and this is my first post. I am not a club builder, but I have put a few clubs together. I have been looking at some Maltby Clubs to replace my probably 15-20 year old Maxfli Powermax Irons. I am a high handicapper that currently only gets out a few times a year, but I want to change that. Recently Fit2YouGolf did a video on the KE4 Max irons. Since I know he has played many Maltby Irons I asked him what he would choose between the KE4 Max and the STi2. He said he personally likes the STi2 looks and performance and thinks it would fit a broader range of golfers.

So with that I came here :). For those that have played both the STi2 and KE4 Max what are the pros and cons for you? If I have had the Powermax for this long I will probalby have this set for quite a while so  I want to do it right. I know I could get a club of each, but for now I am really curious what the Maltby experts think. @Popeye64 I know you have good luck with the KE4 Max and liked the STi2 as well so I curious what your thoughts are. Also I know there are a few new offerings, but they may be too much of a gamer for an infrequent golfer like myself. But if anyone has an opinion on that I am all ears.

Sorry for the long first post and I thank anyone in advance for taking the time to respond. Thanks!

It's a tough call between the STI2 and the Ke4 Max. The STI2 is an incredible bargain. They feel great and pretty much just get the job done.

The KE4 Max has an adjustable toe weight that really allows fine tuning in Swing weight and performance.

If you aquire two TT Score Lt shafts and a KE4 Max and an STi2 head you can have your own little shootout, and do it without hurting the wallet.

I've built quite a few STI2 sets and no one has ever not been smitten with them even months later.

Whaaaaat?  A steel shaft in a hybrid?  BLASPHEMY!

Seriously though, do you think there is more control? is shaft cut shorter?  distance similar?  I'm INTRIGUED.

On another note, @Popeye64 I'm really starting to get used to the DRM 56* and liking it.  My son in law just bought  Vokey SM8 on sale for $139.  They are almost identical from the face view and could barely tell which was which.  The sole is cut a little different but I'm assuming the TSW DRM was made to be a little more versatile.  I'm considering the Max 52* to replace my Kirkland 52* because I'm a point and shoot with the 52*.  I don't generally manipulate the face and use it for longer chips and 50-60 yard pitch shots.  It will likely fit me better than the DRM for that purpose.

950GH is a 98g shaft, so it's not that much heavier than a hybrid graphite shaft.  I did make it 1/2" shorter than it would be if graphite.  Haven't had a chance to hit it, so no feedback yet.

Thank you @Popeye64. Have you found a difference in forgiveness on off-center hits? That's where I am thinking the Max may have an advantage, but that could just be in my head. Thanks!

I only played the STi2. But have hit my friends KE4 Max. If you need the distance go with the max. The STi2 where great irons.

Thanks @TallGuy90. I always like more distance. However I think the important part now is just finding consistency so forgiveness may be at the top of the order. I'll keep that distance thing in my back pocket 😁

Of the two I have a bunch of in play and practice time with the KE4 Max. The STi2 is relatively limited comparing the two. I have not see a drastic difference between them in off center strikes.

The STi2 is ALL cavity. Where the KE4 Max has a filled in toe area with the weight. Based purely on the design of the two the STI2 should have better all over the face performance, theoretically.

Both are very forgiving and it may be splitting hairs.

Looks wise I like the STI2 better.

I have both heads. I like the max head better (as respects appearance and forgiveness).

While I don't carry a handicap anymore, I usually shoot in high 80s/low 90s.

In last 3 years, my game has been going south so I made a concerted effort to find the most forgiving iron head, the max won out but the sti2 head is very forgiving as well. Plus the sti2 head might be the best bargain out there.

I would agree with Popeye re: preparing a demo of each and deciding based off of that.  I have played the STi2 for the last year plus and currently have the Max in the bag.  There are differences, IMO the STi2 look better, the Max feel better and have a slight edge.in forgiveness.  The soles are similar in that they both have a rocker sole but the Max is slightly wider (I think 🤔) and I get some additional bounce relief vs. the STi2....it's subtle but there.  My left miss is a bit more tamed with the Max too, again subtle but it's there.  Both are very good irons ..... I could easily play either one...which I have🙃

I’m really impressed with the TS3 irons. I get a really high ball flight with the rapid taper shafts, but they feel great and are very forgiving. Irons have been my biggest issue the last couple of years, but I already have more confidence in these than anything I’ve played in quite a few years. That being said, does anyone have a 6 iron TS3 head they want to sell?😊

Stopped by GW today to pick up my TS1-IM 7i for testing. Got to take a in-person look at the TS3 and TS4 as well. The TS3 looked a lot better in person than online. Not nearly as large as the photos make it seem.

I may take some flack for it, but the TS4 frankly looked better online than it did in-person. Don't get me wrong. It didn't look bad by any means. It still looks clean. But as far as the MB structure/lines, the TS1-IM looks much better (IMHO). If it were purely on looks, I'd take the backup set of blade (Snake Eyes 600B) over the TS4.

Now, the TS1-IM looks absolutely amazing. I'd already removed the paint-fill from my OG TS1. Which took it from good to great. But the IM is just on another level. Top line (compared to the OG TS1) is visually very close. The offset however is noticeably different (better) with the IM model. In short, they took an outstanding head and made just a couple little tweaks to make it darn near perfect. Even the finish is more appealing. Subtle, but love the slightly more matte look to it.

For reference, here are some 7i pics comparing the four I have on-hand. From left to right; Snake Eyes 600b, Rogue ST Pro, TS1-IM, OG TS1.

Really curious on the TS4s thought about s blended set with TS1 but I have heard there isn't a whole lot separating these and go with whatever pleases the eye. Which although the TS1s are amazing. Having a blade the is just as if not more forgiving and a milled sole these just tick every box.

My TS-2 heads and Maltby Pro graphite shafts showed up today.  The iron heads (5 and 6 for now) are beautiful, much better looking than the catalogue pictures.  They are about .25" longer than the Apex 19 I currently play, the sole width is just a smidgen wider but nothing excessive.  Top line is thicker but I don't care about that.

Not sure what to do with the shafts.  By feel they feel a little stiffer than the Catalyst 80 6.0 in the Apex irons which are just about perfect to me flex wise.  Right now I'm thinking I'll soft step 2x but maybe just one, I have no way to really determine how they will play other than guesstimating them by feel in my hands.

I really hope these are the ones.  I love my Apex irons but I'd like just a tad bit more forgiveness.  I'll prep everything for length and target D2 or D3 for swing weight.

Mostly Wishon with a few Tour Edge Exotics, Cobra, Cleveland, and one Odyssey mixed in.

I’m going all in on a full set of TS4’s.  Some decent pictures on the golfworks site as a review here - (scroll down to the reviews)

https://www.golfworks.com/maltby-ts4-forged-iron-heads/p/ma0348/

The 8 iron looks really good with good lines and minimal offset and not a super thick top line.  The 5 iron TS-1 IM looks great, but the knock is seeing the muscle at address according to the review, plus the clicky sound (not awful but noticeable). Looking at the face on view of the toe that golfworks shows, I could see that. Plus this is the case with my original TS-1’s in the 3 and 4.

I’m also a believer in an iron that is a solid one piece construction versus a composite foam filled iron. My stats over the last 6 months show that the distance is more consistent and my scores are more consistent.

Time to upgrade from the DBM Forged! All good choices really.  Life is short play what suits you best!
