Compared against a PTxPro 7 iron which is shorter blade length but looks “thicker” and chunkier with more offset vs the DBM. From the address position the DBM looks very sleek, to me.

I like the way it looks. It looks utilitarian. It looks workman like. It looks like a tool which is what it really is.

I'm just blown away at how much that improved the looks of the Tour+. That design was an awesome test mule. Over the years I must have had 15, 7 iron heads spread out on existing design or prototype shafts. I'll bet I have at least 7 or 8 still kicking around.

I should grab a set for nostalgia before they disappear. They earned it.

Have you hit them yet?

i have only hit the 7 iron in my home “practice area” (shown below) and it is currently 34 degrees outside.

They don’t feel overly soft, there is a slight clickyness (potentially from the DBM finish) but so far they seem very easy to flush and hit the center. Feedback seems good. For reference, I would not describe my Hogan irons as overly soft either. The hogans have tungsten and feel like they have more “heft” at impact. All that said, the feeling of hitting the DBMs is nice. I hit the sub70 639cbs a while ago and these feel similar if not slightly less soft than the sub 70.

Also, on the FST 125 front, I am not having trouble (so far) making good swings with the lighter shaft. The kick point feels lower in the FST vs KBS tour 120 but they aren’t whippy or anything.

Initial Outdoor Range Session with DBM vs current gamers:

Amateurish Fitter Thoughts (i.e. my own):

The land angle concerns me. I came into this worrying that the lower VCOG was going to (potentially) balloon my shots. I guess good news is that it did not. But I think I would prefer closer to a 45* land angle with a 7 iron. I was also surprised that the PTxPros still kept up, carrywise. Also, the delta on the PTxPro is SO MUCH tighter. In fairness some or all of this could be down to the difference in shaft (DBM has a cheap FST shaft in it). Also, I am very used to the PTxPros and the 7 iron has tungsten in the toe which gives me a little extra ballspeed (I assume) on toe side strikes. The DBM, in all honesty, is still very playable for me and it is just going up against a club (PTxPro) that has beaten out Mizuno Pros + JPX, TM P-770, Titleist 150, Cobra MIM Tour, Sub 70 639CB, New Level 902s, Ping i230s, etc.

As for the landing angle, it sounds like closer to 34* might be the optimal loft for your 7 iron.  Which would then fall in line with a 46* Pw.  I was able to move the original DBM's 2*, but you have to be careful with them

Yes, another reason that the PTxPros work better for me (34* 7 iron with a 46* PW). Honestly, I just think that head design (the PTxPro) works really well for me.

Like a total weirdo, I am now looking at TS-3 heads as well because 🤷‍♂️ why not? The DBMs are very good they just didn't quite give me a reason to change.

If you do get another test club, I'd have them set the actual loft to 34* so you can do a true comparison....plus it sounds like that loft fits you anyways

Initial Outdoor Range Session with DBM vs current gamers:

TE+ V4 DBM w/ FST 125 stiff shaft (32*) vs Ben Hogan PTxPro w/ KBS Tour 120 stiff shaft (34*)

Look: Love the look of them at address and in the bag. They are stunning in a minimalist way. The blade length is LONG but it is hidden a bit with the black and the lesser offset but compared, side by side, against other irons they show their length.

Turf Interaction: Seems fine with the DBMs, I take a divot and have around -6 * attack angle and it rained yesterday and these were fine. My PTxPros have a V-Sole and I didn't feel a ton of difference between them. Nothing diggy like the previous version of the TE.

Sound/Feel: They are softish but not really in the realm of the soft forgings. The DBM probably adds a little bit of a harsher feel but these were still plenty nice to hit. Just don't expect some pillow soft strike. ALSO THE SLIGHT BIT OF HARSHENESS COULD BE EXAGERRATED BY THE FST SHAFT. They sound pretty good, tried to get a video here that captured the sound.

FullSizeRender.MOV 4.72 MB · 1 download

Flight: These were not ballooning for me or overly spinny. We have confirmation of that via trackman below. Felt more workable than my PTxPros AND fades were easier to hit, possibly due to less offset. They were flying slightly lower than my PTxPros which is down to the 2* difference in loft I believe.

Overall: Liked the feel of them and they get through the turf fine. Normal shot shape was there and feedback is fairly precise on mishits.

You could probably play the Score shaft or a similar higher launch/spin to get what you need.

YEAH - do the TS-3, they look lovely. I don't see any improvements with the DBMs either to warrant a change, PTXs are just fine. This case, newer is not better...

One random question on these FST shafts, they seem to be "creaking" a little bit. That is the only way I can describe the sound of them flexing. It is usually after a shot I can here it creak a little bit like it is flexing. Is this because they are new? I have never heard a shaft make this noise before. Almost seems like they are "breaking in" (hopefully not breaking). Is that a thing? I haven't had new irons in a while.
