Being that they are forged from the same 1025, that would indicate that the lower AVCOG (sweet-spot) of the TS3 is producing the feel that you like.

All else equal, impact with the AVCOG a bit further beneath the center of the ball will feel more pure or "softer"

Which is odd, because so many of the blades I've loved seem to have an AVCOG that isn't anywhere near as low as the TS3.  Odd.  Oh well.  Good excuse to build another set!

Were the other blades actually measured for AVCOG?  Sometimes we assume that muscle-back blades have higher COG's, but a look back through history for ones that have been measured...and many of the most popular ones, we find were actually mid or low.  This the key factor for smaller sized irons that gain a reputation as "not that hard to hit".

The reason for this is that blades and smaller heads in general tend to have a somewhat shorter face height.  The opposite for bigger irons, which tend to have taller faces and higher AVCOG's

Old Titleist blades, the old VR Nikes and the Ben Hogans Apex all seem to be closer to the TS4.  All the greats of yesteryear seem to be around the .73-.76ish range.  I can't imagine 1020 carbon is much softer than 1025.

Keeping in mind that for a real accurate feel test, we would need to be using the same ball type and same shaft design.

At any rate, you've hit the TS3 longer irons and know you like them.  I would be surprised if the rest of the set doesn't work just as well.  Especially since the TS3 design is somewhat "progressive" as stated in their description...."Three unique progressive cavity designs in the set to position weight more towards the toe and lower in the long irons and centered and slightly higher in the short irons."

I find the TS4s very soft with an amazing feel but I’d say the feedback is “ample” on misses. For what it’s worth, I prefer a softer golf ball and grips (Pro V1/GP CP2 wrap) and am very pleased with the feel on solid shots. Playing X100 shafts as well.

Had another weekend of solid ball striking, particularly with the short irons. The performance for the money is nothing short of amazing. My TE+ 4-6 arrive tomorrow, can’t wait to try them at the top end of the bag.

Just compared the TS3 numbers, VCOG and MOI to the 1968 Wilson Dynapower Tour Blade, a personal favorite. While they look nothing alike, those numbers are very comparable. Almost identical in fact. This may sway me to the 3 over the  4.

After a few rounds with the TS4, anyone else feel like they're just kind of harsh.  Even on perfectly struck shots, they do not have the particularly buttery feel of a typical forged blade.  I find the TS3 is actually much better feeling (long irons are TS3).  I'm contemplating ordering a full set of TS3 for better feel.  Not sure about height though. Don't want moonballs.

Definitely a firmer feel but I do use graphite, not sure if you’re using steel or graphite?

The Maltby MPFs have been updated for the new TS3.5 irons. I hope this means they will be released soon.  Also, I hope the black around the M and 3.5 will come off.

They should just be aluminum badges like on the other clubs. I removed all the "M's from my set. 2 seconds with a torch, and a small screwdriver. Hardest part is removing the adhesive tape residue.

Lower MPF than the TS3's...interesting.

I doubt there's any real playability difference due to the MPF numbers, maybe some from the 2° stronger lofts and sole changes.

Not a surprise.  It has a higher CG.

The core of the MPF final score is CDimension minus Actual VCOG.  The secondary piece is a small number of points for MOI, which is scaled based on how high the CG is.

1461-712 versus 1463-691   <shrug>

Can anyone explain the difference between basic and adjusted VCOG? I ask because there is a big difference between the basic VCOG of the TS3 and TS3.5.

First nine holes with the Max driver last night. Seven shots, none of which hit the fairway, but that's far more to do with my current face/path issues and the small fairways of the course than the driver, which performed. I hit it all over the face and was hardly punished for it. Ball flight was high but not balloonish, and my distances were essentially right what my ST-G 220 distances were even accounting for a shorter shaft. I think we're going to get along just fine.

Question:

Not sure if this is a question for you (since you understand MPF) or @Popeye64 or @Cwebb

I game the PXG 0211 XCor2 wit MMT 70R.  *See Golfworks MPF info from photo

PS.. I do still really like the PXG's and hit them well

I'm looking at putting together the TS3.5 6-G -OR- 6-A with a DRT 50* Gap wedge.  I don't want to spend too much on the shaft and was thinking the Maltby Pro+ or Aldilla NV.  I don't have a problem with getting the ball in the air so want a shaft with a mid launch.  My 7i (loft is 28 or 29) goes 145-150 (78-82 SS) on a decent strike so thinking R flex.  With the MPF details of the PXG compared to the TS3.5 what shaft would be best suited in that budget range?

I'm going to defer to Popeye and CWebb for this one.  I'm just a data nerd, while they are much more versed in fitting questions such as this.

I live in a world where I have to explain numbers to non-number people.  I'll give it a shot.

The Basic CG is the CG location as measured on the face of the clubhead.  They also balance the clubhead on its sole, the point of that balance is measured.  They project an imaginary line from the basic CG, perpendicular to the clubface.  Where that intersects with a similar imaginary line projecting vertically from that sole balance point is where the Actual VCOG is located.

One thing I noticed with the TS4 is that (for me) they prefer a more aggressive and vertical swing.   My tendency is a flatter swing and to collapse / chicken wing through the ball.  They aren't bad if I make those boo-boos, but the club has that "did I even hit the ball" feeling if I'm keeping my arms together and avoiding falling into bad habits.
